Chapter 395: Chapter 395: Spending Time in a World for Two
Even if he’s in so much pain, his mouth still hasn’t changed a bit.
Lan Yan actually didn’t use much force.
“Doctor Xiao, please be a bit more careful next time.”
After speaking, she let go of him.
Xiao Si immediately clutched his wrist, looking at her with a face full of grievance: “If this hand ends up useless, Xiao Yanyan, you’re going to have to take responsibility.”
Lan Yan looked at him speechlessly.
She said, “Don’t make such a big fuss. I know my own strength; your hand isn’t going to be ruined. You can relax.”
After finishing, she turned around and walked into the house, ignoring him.
Uncle Zhong looked at her and asked quizzically, “What’s going on with you two?”
Lan Yan explained, “Oh, Uncle Zhong, it’s nothing. Doctor Xiao just said he wanted to spar with me a bit.”
Uncle Zhong was baffled but still nodded.
“Oh, well, hurry and come in for breakfast. It’s ready,” Uncle Zhong said.
Lan Yan replied, “Okay, thanks, Uncle Zhong.”
As soon as Lan Yan entered, Su He and the others just happened to be coming downstairs.
“What was happening outside just now?” Su He looked at her and asked.
She was about to go change Su Baobao’s clothes when she heard a pained shout from inside.
Lan Yan awkwardly cleared her throat.
But before she had a chance to respond, the sound of Xiao Si’s voice came from behind.
“Sister-in-law, you’ve got to defend me here.” He suddenly said this.
Lan Yan frowned slightly and glanced back at him.
Su He also looked at him in confusion.
Seeing him clutching his right hand with his left, she asked, “What happened to your hand?”
Xiao Si said innocently, “Xiao Yanyan hit me.”
Lan Yan: “?”
Su He: “…”
Su Baobao was the first to speak up and ask, “Uncle Xiao, what did Aunt Yan do to you? Why would she hit you? There must be a reason, right?”
He rattled off a string of questions.
These were also the very questions Su He wanted to ask.
Xiao Si responded confidently, “I just hugged her a bit, that’s all. Didn’t do anything over the line.”
Su He: “…”
At that moment, Jiang Yan came down the stairs, letting out a chuckle, “With hands like yours, who else should get hit besides you?”
Xiao Si: “…”
“Hugging my future wife isn’t illegal.”
Lan Yan, hearing this, immediately retorted, “Doctor Xiao, stop talking nonsense. Who said I’m your future wife?”
Xiao Si replied, “You are.”
Lan Yan: “…”
She felt like she was wasting her breath on him.
“My hand hurts, it really hurts. You have to take responsibility for me.”
Xiao Si stretched his right hand toward her, looking very much like he’d refuse to leave until she agreed.
Lan Yan felt like she’d fallen right into her own trap.
Who would’ve thought he could be this shameless…
She was beyond exasperated.
By noon, she even received a multimedia message from him—it was an injury evaluation report.
When Lan Yan saw this report, she was instantly speechless.
She took one look at it and deleted it.
Just after deleting it, a certain someone’s call came through.
She didn’t want to pick up, but she knew that if she didn’t, he’d keep calling.
She couldn’t turn off her phone, for fear of missing any important calls or messages.
Blocking him seemed excessive—after all, he hadn’t done anything over the line.
So she ended up answering his call.
As soon as she picked up, a low and slightly seductive male voice came from the other end of the line: “Xiao Yanyan, did you receive my injury evaluation report?”
Lan Yan replied flatly, “Mm.”
“So, what do you want to do?” she asked.
The man chuckled on the other end, “If you’d add me on WeChat, I won’t cling to you about taking responsibility. How about that?”
“Just that?” Lan Yan frowned slightly.
Xiao Si replied, “Of course it’s not as simple as just approving the request. After adding me, you can’t block or delete me either.”
He was clearly trying to score benefits for himself, and if he wanted those benefits, they couldn’t have loopholes.
What if this girl agreed but then deleted him right after? That’d be a loss for him.
He never engaged in things where he’d end up losing.
Lan Yan, on the other hand, had thought he would ask for something unreasonable.
“Fine, no problem,” she said.
Then she asked, “Anything else? If not, I’m hanging up.”
“There is, there is!” Xiao Si hastily said, fearing she’d hang up the next second. “Treat me to dinner tonight.”
Lan Yan: “…”
“Alright, I’ll send you the address later,” she replied.
Xiao Si, seeing how readily she agreed, immediately felt much happier.
She wasn’t opposed, she didn’t refuse—this meant he had a chance.
“Doctor Xiao, do you have something good going on lately? How come you’re smiling so much?”
An intern walked into the office and saw him sitting there grinning, so she asked curiously.
Xiao Si laughed heartily, “I do have some good news, but I can’t tell you yet.”
Just after saying this, his phone buzzed.
He opened WeChat to see Lan Yan had approved his friend request.
This was the first step of success.
The intern said “Oh” and guessed, “Doctor Xiao, are you getting married?”
Xiao Si didn’t dodge the question: “I am getting married, but not just yet.”
By coincidence, Jiang Huai walked in at that moment.
Hearing Xiao Si’s words, she paused slightly but quickly regained her composure.
She said to him, “Doctor Xiao, could you check on the patient in room fifteen? The family says the patient is feeling stomach discomfort.”
Upon hearing this, Xiao Si nodded and got up to leave.
In the patient’s room.
“Doctor Xiao, what’s wrong with my husband?” The woman beside him asked anxiously.
Xiao Si examined the patient and said, “Don’t worry, your husband is fine.”
He glanced at some food on the nearby cabinet, “He just ate too much and has some indigestion. I mentioned yesterday that he shouldn’t eat too much at once. Why did you let him eat so much again?”
“He said he was hungry, I couldn’t help it. So what do we do now?”
“No need to worry. I’ll prescribe some medicine for him. After taking it and visiting the bathroom, he’ll be fine.”
“Oh, okay, okay, thank you, Doctor Xiao.”
“Remember, don’t give him too much food at once next time. Gradually increase the amount.”
“Okay, I’ll remember.”
After stepping out of the room, Jiang Huai said to him, “Doctor Xiao, congratulations.”
Xiao Si didn’t quite understand what she was congratulating him for, so he turned back to her with a puzzled look: “Huh?”
Jiang Huai explained, “I overheard what you all said in the office just now. I wasn’t eavesdropping intentionally.”
Xiao Si thought it wasn’t a big deal and dismissed it with a laugh: “Oh, it’s fine. It’s no secret anyway.”
Jiang Huai smiled and said, “Then I’ll wait for your wedding candy.”
Xiao Si: “No problem.”
Since giving up chasing her, Xiao Si noticed Jiang Huai didn’t avoid him anymore.
Though there were similarities in Lan Yan and Jiang Huai’s attitudes toward him, he knew their personalities were completely different.
And, it seemed, he liked Lan Yan’s personality more—cold as she might be, he found her strangely cute.
After saying this, Xiao Si headed back to the office.
Jiang Huai watched his tall figure, lost in thought.
When someone called her, she snapped out of it.
…
Afternoon.
Xiao Si had outpatient duties.
Today was a bit different—he was in an unusually good mood.
But that good mood quickly tapered off with the arrival of Dong Xiaoxiao.
“Doctor Xiao, hello again! We meet once more.”
Dong Xiaoxiao sat down, acting as if she were very familiar with him.
Xiao Si glanced at her and displayed a meaningful expression.
“So it’s Miss Dong.”
Dong Xiaoxiao felt delighted that he remembered her.
This at least meant she had some place in his heart.
She pursed her red lips shyly and said, “I didn’t expect Doctor Xiao to still remember me.”
Xiao Si chuckled lightly. “Hard to forget. After all, Miss Dong is my family’s Xiao Yanyan’s little sister. As Miss Dong’s future brother-in-law, naturally I wouldn’t forget my future sister-in-law.”
Dong Xiaoxiao’s face froze instantly: “…”
Then Xiao Si asked, “So, Miss Dong, what seems to be the trouble?”
Dong Xiaoxiao quickly placed her hand over her chest, saying, “My chest feels uncomfortable; I’ve been feeling tightness and some pain the past couple of days. Doctor Xiao, can you take a look?”
The mischievous and seductive look in her eyes did not escape Xiao Si—he could tell at once what her intentions were.
“Alright, head into the room and lie on the bed,” Xiao Si said flatly.
Dong Xiaoxiao promptly got up and walked inside, lying down obediently.
“Doctor Xiao, I’m ready,” she said.
“Okay. Put on a pair of disposable gloves and I’ll be right over. Miss Dong, please unbutton your shirt.”
“Alright.”
Dong Xiaoxiao agreed quickly and felt quite happy.
Xiao Si, however, took out a pen and wrote something on the back of a sheet of paper.
Then, he handed it to Cheng Qi—his intern.
Cheng Qi glanced at what Xiao Si had written and promptly put on disposable gloves, then walked into the room.
Soon enough, screams erupted from Dong Xiaoxiao: “Ah! Who are you? Get out of here! How dare you peep at me? I’m calling the police!”
Cheng Qi looked utterly speechless: “…”
“Ma’am, I’m a doctor, and you’re a patient. How does that make me a peeper? Doctors don’t distinguish between genders when it comes to patients. Please lie back down so I can examine you.”
“I don’t want you to examine me! I want Doctor Xiao!”
At this point, Xiao Si, sitting relaxed outside, calmly said, “Apologies, Miss Dong. My hand is injured and I can’t examine you personally. So, I’ve asked Doctor Cheng to carry out the examination instead. But don’t worry—Doctor Cheng is skilled; you can trust him to handle it.”
Dong Xiaoxiao was seething. She quickly got up and put her shirt back on.
“I don’t want him to do the examination!”
She pushed Cheng Qi aside and stormed out of the room.
“…”
Xiao Si twirled a pen lazily, not even sparing her a glance.
Dong Xiaoxiao stomped over to him, her tone filled with feigned indignation: “Doctor Xiao, I only want you to examine me. If you don’t, I won’t get checked.”
Xiao Si said coldly, “If Miss Dong doesn’t want to get checked, then please leave. You look perfectly healthy; you don’t seem like someone who’s sick.”
Before she could respond, he added, “If you really think you’re ill, then you may have come to the wrong department. This isn’t neurology. But I do know a neurology department head—I can recommend you pay them a visit.”
Even if Dong Xiaoxiao were slow on the uptake, she could tell he was insinuating she had brain issues.
She had gone to great lengths to find out where he worked and had specifically booked this appointment to come see him.
Yet he was utterly ungrateful.
“Doctor Xiao, do you really like my sister that much?” she suddenly asked.
Xiao Si glanced at her indifferently, saying, “That’s none of your business, sister-in-law. If you’re not sick, just leave. Don’t waste time for the next patient.”
Dong Xiaoxiao glared at him: “…”
“What if I refuse to leave?” she asked stubbornly.
Xiao Si gave her a faint look and calmly instructed, “Cheng Qi, call security and tell them someone is causing a disturbance.”
Cheng Qi immediately responded, “Oh, okay.”
And headed toward the door.
Dong Xiaoxiao panicked and stopped Cheng Qi: “Wait!”
“I’ll leave!”
She glared at the man sitting in the chair and said through clenched teeth.
The man smirked slightly and said, “Take care. I won’t see you out.”
Fuming, Dong Xiaoxiao stormed out and slammed the door behind her.
Cheng Qi scratched his head in bewilderment.
He turned to Xiao Si and asked, “Doctor Xiao, is that woman really your sister-in-law? She’s got quite a bad temper.”
Xiao Si didn’t elaborate and said, “Hurry up, call the next patient in. Or don’t you want to go home?”
Cheng Qi quickly called the next patient.
Meanwhile, Dong Xiaoxiao was fuming and frustrated as she left the clinic building.
She refused to give up that easily.
She resolved to take away whatever Lan Yan had!
…
5 PM.
Xiao Si received a WeChat message from Lan Yan.
He had saved her contact as “Xiao Yanyan.”
Xiao Yanyan: “After work, head back to Moon Gift Villa. I left something in my room. I won’t finish work until 8, so I need you to help me get it.”
Seeing the message, Xiao Si didn’t even question it and agreed.
“Alright, what do you need me to grab?”
Lan Yan replied quickly: “I’ll tell you once you’re there.”
Lan Yan was currently standing in the backyard gazebo at Moon Gift Villa.
After replying, she put away her phone.
She had already returned at two in the afternoon.
Just then, Paomian bounded over, crouching at her feet and wagging its tail.
Lan Yan bent down, rubbed its head, and muttered to herself, “Do you think he’ll be mad as hell when he gets back?”
Paomian barked twice, seemingly in reply—though whether it understood was unclear.
7 PM.
Xiao Si had just reached Moon Gift Villa when he ran into Jiang Yan, who was also returning.
Jiang Yan wasn’t too keen on engaging him.
He and Ye Jiuqing were like two stubborn patches of adhesive plaster, stuck to his home.
Jiang Yan didn’t want to converse, but Xiao Si had no such reservations.
Xiao Si approached him with an arm casually slung over his shoulder: “Hey, President Jiang, what’s going on here? Why the long face? Did you and sister-in-law have a fight?”
Jiang Yan gave him a cold look and growled, “Scram.”
Xiao Si clicked his tongue and grinned mischievously, “Fine, fine! I’ll grab my family’s Xiao Yanyan’s belongings and scram off to meet her. Tonight I’ve got some alone time planned with her, so I won’t intrude on you and sister-in-law’s time together.”
Jiang Yan’s eyes darkened as he looked at him: “Alone time? Are you sure?”
“Why would I lie to you?” Xiao Si replied. “She invited me to dinner tonight. She’s still at the research institute, so I came back to help her grab her stuff. After that, I’m heading straight to meet her.”
Jiang Yan: “…”
Not long ago, wasn’t Lan Yan right here at home?
Xiao Si then let go of Jiang Yan and pulled out his phone, dialing Lan Yan’s number.
Lan Yan answered swiftly.
“Hey, Xiao Yanyan, I’m at Moon Gift Villa now. Where’s the stuff you wanted me to grab?”
Jiang Yan stood nearby, watching as the smile slowly disappeared from Xiao Si’s face.
Who knows what Lan Yan said on the other end of the line.
When the call ended, Jiang Yan asked, “Looks like your alone time plans fell through, huh?”
Xiao Si: “…”
In the main building’s living room, within the play area, Lan Yan was sitting on the carpet playing with Su Baobao.
Until a certain someone approached.
“Lan Yan.”
Lan Yan heard the voice and turned to look.
Su Baobao saw Xiao Si and obediently greeted him, “Hello, Uncle Xiao.”
Xiao Si responded warmly.
Lan Yan asked, “Do you need something?”
Xiao Si was so livid that he didn’t know what to say for a moment.
After a brief pause, he squeezed out one sentence: “What about the dinner?”
Lan Yan blinked and replied, “You never insisted that the dinner had to be outside, so I chose to host it here at Moon Gift Villa. Tonight’s dishes are all things I bought with my own money. And honestly, apart from you, I can also invite Old Boss and President Jiang to join us.”
“…”
Her logic sounded flawless.
And Xiao Si was utterly stumped, unable to argue back.
So, it was his own fault for being careless—he underestimated her.
He should’ve figured she wouldn’t obediently agree to a one-on-one dinner.
