Lord of Illusions City

Chapter 252 The Right Choice

Chapter 1 The Alerter

The one who issued the alarm was Wu Cheng, the sentry who had chatted with Wang Li earlier! His name was quite imposing, bearing the character "City," but combined, it somewhat implied "no success."

Wu Cheng was rescued by Li Chenzhou and the others along with Wang Li, but before Li Chenzhou and his team appeared, he had been saved by Wang Li once.

He was a delivery guy. When the mutation occurred, Wu Cheng was delivering food, just arriving at a customer's building and calling him.

The customer was a man in his twenties, a homebody who was playing a game. Hearing that his delivery had arrived, he told Wu Cheng to bring it up himself, even leaving the door open while he continued his gaming battle.

Just as Wu Cheng entered the stairwell, the mutation descended. Because he was inside and in a hurry, he didn't notice the change in the world. He continued to climb the stairs to the customer's home, knocking on the open door, intending to have the man come out to receive his food.

But at this moment, the man had already mutated. Hearing the knock, he immediately rushed out of the bedroom, roaring as he charged toward Wu Cheng.

Seeing the man's ferocious face, Wu Cheng was shocked. Fortunately, as a deliveryman who ran around all day and often climbed stairs, Wu Cheng was in good shape. Without a word, he kicked the guy back!

"Is this... some kind of cosplay?"

Wu Cheng had seen zombie movies, but he didn't think of it as the end of the world. Instead, he thought this guy was playing some kind of "costume play!"

As a deliveryman, he'd seen all kinds of strange people, so he didn't take it seriously, simply warning:

"Listen, I'm only responsible for delivering food, not for playing games, especially not with guys. Here's your order, I'm giving it to you..."

Wu Cheng said as he intended to put the food on the ground. He still had many orders to deliver!

But as he spoke, the man bared his teeth and charged again. Seeing that this guy wasn't done, Wu Cheng's nameless anger rose. He raised his hand and threw the food.

The man had ordered boiled fish in chili oil and rice. Wu Cheng threw it accurately, hitting the man's face. The packaging immediately broke, and the chili oil soup splashed all over the man's head.

Wu Cheng felt a pang of trouble. He knew the temperature of the boiled fish, especially with the layer of oil on top. Although it wouldn't be as hot as when it just came out of the pot, it would still hurt.

But the next moment, Wu Cheng was stunned. The man didn't seem to feel anything, grabbing the upturned boiled fish and throwing it aside. In the process, more soup poured on his head, but he still stared at Wu Cheng and strode forward...

Now, Wu Cheng finally realized something was wrong.

If something so hot was poured on your head, even if you were a tough guy who could endure the pain, at least you'd say something, right? Not a word? Was this still human?

"Roar!"

Just as Wu Cheng was dazed, the man pounced in front of him, grabbing his shoulder and opening his mouth to bite his face, the foul breath spraying directly onto Wu Cheng's face!

"This is really a zombie!"

Wu Cheng smelled the odor and finally confirmed it. No matter how good the makeup, you couldn't make up the breath, right? The zombie's breath was completely different from bad breath. It contained the stench of death.

Wu Cheng was almost scared out of his wits. Seeing the ferocious face coming at him, he panicked and lowered his head, hitting the zombie's face with his helmet. Then, he kicked him away and turned to run.

Unfortunately, because he was too flustered, Wu Cheng stumbled just halfway down the stairs and fell down.

Although the stairs in the residential building weren't long, falling wouldn't cause serious injury, but Wu Cheng unfortunately twisted his ankle!

Just as Wu Cheng was trying to get up, the zombie had already caught up, pouncing on him from above. Looking at the face rapidly enlarging in his eyes like Mount Tai bearing down, Wu Cheng despaired, closing his eyes to wait for death!

"Bang!"

At this moment, the door of the house behind Wu Cheng suddenly opened, and a figure rushed out. He held a large sofa cushion in his hand, charged at the zombie, pushed him down in the hallway, and then dragged Wu Cheng on the ground back into his home, slamming the door shut!

This person was naturally Wang Li. His peephole faced the stairwell. When the Hell Silk descended, Wang Li immediately felt something was wrong and looked out the window.

The chaotic world outside shocked Wang Li. Just then, he heard a loud noise from the stairwell. He ran to the peephole and saw that the guy upstairs had mutated and was chasing the deliveryman.

Wang Li had been a soldier, so he grabbed the sofa cushion and rushed out, successfully rescuing Wu Cheng.

"Thank you, big brother!"

Wu Cheng was still in shock, looking at Wang Li gratefully.

"It's okay! Brother, were you scratched or bitten by that guy?"

Wang Li shook his head, looking at Wu Cheng and asking.

"No! Really not!"

Wu Cheng immediately understood Wang Li's meaning, knowing that he was afraid of being bitten and turning into a zombie like in the movies, so he answered immediately.

Then, to prove himself, Wu Cheng simply struggled to stand up, taking off his helmet and coat to show Wang Li that he had no wounds, explaining:

"The red stuff on me isn't blood, it's the chili oil from the boiled fish. If you don't believe me, smell it. I don't have any bloody smell!"

"Okay! Good!"

Wang Li patted Wu Cheng and said:

"Sorry, but I have to be careful!"

"Yes! I know!"

Wu Cheng nodded and began to put on his clothes, but just as he put on one sleeve, he heard a noisy sound outside—because he wanted to see clearly, Wang Li had opened the window.

"What's... going on outside?"

Wu Cheng's movements instantly froze. He turned to Wang Li and asked.

"Just like that guy outside."

Wang Li pointed to his door, then pointed outside:

"You could say you're lucky, delivering food upstairs at this time. If you were on the street, I'm afraid..."

Wu Cheng quickly rushed to the window. Then, he saw the despairing scene: zombies chasing living people everywhere, high-pitched and shrill screams, cars emitting black smoke...

Scenes that were once only seen on the screen were now vividly displayed before his eyes.

"What... should we do?"

Wu Cheng turned back and asked Wang Li.

"Wait!"

Wang Li looked outside and said:

"It's too chaotic outside now, so we can only wait here, wait for rescue. If there is no rescue, then we can only wait until it's not so chaotic outside and find a way to escape the city!"

Wang Li's choice was quite correct. It was his choice that allowed them to survive and eventually receive rescue from Li Chenzhou and his team...
