Lord of Illusions City
Chapter 218 Humans Who Cooperate With Zombies
Wang Zifeng hid on the top floor of a large building, looking at his son in his arms, who was pitifully begging for food. His heart was twisted with pain.
On that evening when the disaster struck, Wang Zifeng lost his wife. He watched with his own eyes as she was grabbed by a zombie and torn apart, struggling and crying out for help. But Wang Zifeng could only choose to run, because he was holding his six-year-old son!
Besides, Wang Zifeng had seen many post-apocalyptic movies. He knew that his wife had already been bitten by a zombie, and even if he rescued her, she wouldn't survive. Instead, she might kill him and his son.
So, Wang Zifeng fled with his son, finally arriving at the bottom of this building. But for some reason, as he approached the building, the zombies on the street suddenly rioted. Countless zombies were rushing in one direction.
Wang Zifeng immediately sensed danger. He picked up his son and rushed into the building, fleeing all the way to the top floor. Having watched so many zombie movies, it seemed that zombies always killed people inside buildings and on the roads. As for the rooftops? They were rarely seen there. So he chose the top floor.
However, after reaching the top floor, Wang Zifeng immediately felt a sense of foreboding, because the zombies in the distance were all gathering in his direction. Although the building he was in wasn't the center of the zombie gathering, it was clear that if things continued this way, his location would be surrounded by the horde!
Wang Zifeng didn't know what a zombie king was, let alone the reason for the zombies' gathering. All he knew was that if this continued, he and his son were doomed.
Then, he remembered that when he was going upstairs, he had encountered a few zombies, but they seemed to ignore him.
"Could it be that they're gathering now, so they won't attack us?"
Thinking of this, Wang Zifeng decided to take a risk. He would go back downstairs and head towards the outer perimeter, away from the zombie gathering.
But unexpectedly, as he was about to leave with his son, he encountered two zombies while going downstairs. The two zombies were originally facing away from them. Wang Zifeng was planning to sneak past, but he didn't expect his son to be so scared when he saw the zombies that he started crying loudly.
The sound immediately attracted the two zombies. In a panic, Wang Zifeng had no choice but to rush into a room, close the door tightly, and block the two zombies.
Then, he went to the window and looked down, and his heart sank. The area where the zombies were gathering now included the building he was in. Even if he had managed to escape downstairs just now, he wouldn't have been able to leave.
Wang Zifeng had no choice but to hide inside with his son. Fortunately, the two zombies outside, although they hadn't left, couldn't break down the door, nor did they attract more zombies. At least they were relatively safe inside.
However, in his panic during the escape, Wang Zifeng had dropped his backpack outside. Most of the food and drinks were in there. He only had a few pieces of chocolate in his pocket. Without food, they wouldn't be able to last long.
But there were zombies at the door, so Wang Zifeng certainly didn't dare to go out. He had no choice but to hide inside with his son, constantly peeking outside. The building he was in was actually behind the one where Leopard and the others were.
So, he saw Li Chenzhou and Grey Bear charging towards Leopard, and then breaking through again. At that time, Wang Zifeng really wanted to shout at Li Chenzhou, wondering if these two strong men who were able to break through such a dense zombie horde could take him away as well.
But in the end, Wang Zifeng gave up, because he knew in his heart that there were many people like him in this world. Once he really called out to them, he would be exposed.
If those two people could come and save him, that would be great. But if they didn't come, he and his son would be in big trouble.
He didn't know those two people at all. How could they come and save him just because he asked for help? So, Wang Zifeng ultimately chose to continue hiding, watching Li Chenzhou and the others leave with his own eyes.
Later, because of the appearance of that young man, Wang Zifeng saw the strange scene below where the zombie horde made way. Because he was far away, he couldn't hear the sound at all, but at least he could see the words on the young man's sign.
With those words, plus the zombie horde making way for the young man below, Wang Zifeng could of course imagine that the zombie horde below was gathered by some powerful zombie, and that guy even had some intelligence!
This idea filled Wang Zifeng with despair. Just the huge zombie horde below was already making it impossible for him to escape. Now, the one controlling the zombie horde was actually an intelligent zombie???
Watching the young man walk into that building, a thought suddenly arose in Wang Zifeng's mind. That was, since that person could reach an agreement with this creature controlling the zombie horde, why couldn't he?
However, although he thought of this... Wang Zifeng didn't have anything to write with. Just as he was racking his brains, wondering how he could contact the intelligent creature controlling the zombie horde like that young man, he suddenly discovered that the young man had actually walked out of that building.
Moreover, he was still human and hadn't turned into a terrifying zombie.
All of this made Wang Zifeng understand that the young man had reached some kind of agreement with the intelligent zombie in that building...
Afterwards, he witnessed with his own eyes that the young man, accompanied by a few zombies that looked a little different from the others, actually began to rescue survivors.
Of course, the survivors being rescued probably didn't realize that the young man had reached an agreement with the zombies, because every time the young man went to rescue someone, the surrounding zombies would leave under the command of those special zombies.
Because of the angle, Wang Zifeng could clearly see those strange zombies giving him hand signals in various relatively hidden but visible corners or high places, helping him guide the way.
And one survivor after another was called out of their hiding places by the young man, forming an increasingly large team that headed into the distance...
Wang Zifeng didn't dare to call out to that person, because he knew that that guy had reached some kind of agreement with the zombies. Maybe he was just helping the zombies find food. The people he rescued would eventually become zombie food, and eventually he would become a zombie himself.
Therefore, Wang Zifeng watched the young man leave with his own eyes, still hiding here with his son. However, as time went on, hunger began to replace the zombies, becoming the biggest threat to their lives.
The chocolates in Wang Zifeng's pocket had already been given to his son. It was these few chocolates that had allowed him to survive these past two days, but now, the little guy couldn't take it anymore and started begging weakly again.
"Son, just bear with it for a little longer. Dad will go find you something to eat! Ah!"
Wang Zifeng looked at his son, who seemed a little weak, and said softly. Then he got up and went to the door – he had to get his backpack back, so they could last a few more days...
