Lord of Illusions City
Chapter 149 An Indescribable Skill
The head of a zombie, indigo in color, exploded with the loud sound of a gunshot.
"Haha! Got him!"
The fatty jumped up excitedly and shouted,
"Master, look at me! I killed him with one shot!"
"Alright! You almost stuck the gun barrel into the zombie's brain. What's so great about that?"
Li Chenzhou said unhappily. He then looked around and, seeing that there were no more zombies, waved his hand and said,
"Let's go! Downstairs. The rest is up to them. We'll go help out at the parking lot!"
"Okay!"
The fatty put away his pistol and happily followed Li Chenzhou downstairs.
By this time, the lower floors had been cleared by Li Chenzhou and the fatty, so the survivors had come up to gather any usable resources. Li Chenzhou nodded to them, indicating that the upper floors were safe, and continued downstairs.
Duan Lei was still holding down the fort on the first floor. Anyone on the upper floors with questions could simply lean over the railing, see Duan Lei, and ask him.
"I'm going outside. You guys hurry!"
Li Chenzhou called out to Duan Lei and then went out the main entrance to the parking lot.
By now, most of the cars in the parking lot had been driven away, and the remaining ones had been drained of fuel. Because the market had many buses and delivery vehicles, the survivors were targeting these larger vehicles.
Large vehicles could not only carry more supplies now, but they would also make better walls for the base outside the city.
While Li Chenzhou and the fatty were clearing out the zombies, the car alarms had gone off many times, but not many zombies had been attracted. The total number at both entrances was less than two hundred, which was fewer than the number of zombies inside the market.
Li Chenzhou wasn't surprised by this. Although the sound of so many car alarms going off at once was indeed loud, it was precisely because of this that the sound traveled far and echoed back and forth in the air.
As a result, the zombies couldn't pinpoint the exact location of the sound. It was like shouting loudly in the mountains; the sound would carry far with the echo, but others would have a hard time figuring out where it came from. Being able to tell which direction it came from would be good enough!
"Go! Have him teach you how to use a gun!"
Li Chenzhou pointed to Grey Bear and said to the fatty. The fatty agreed and ran over, panting. He was still an ordinary person, with his highest attribute only at 7. After being led up and down by Li Chenzhou and killing many zombies, he was too tired to move.
But the fatty had perseverance. If you tell me to go, I'll go. So he gritted his teeth and ran over.
Li Chenzhou then went to Duan Xue. Earlier, he had watched Duan Xue fight and was surprised to discover that her main attribute was actually strength, not agility as he had thought.
"How is it? Getting used to it?"
Li Chenzhou asked, coming up behind Duan Xue.
"I have to get used to it, because I don't want to die!"
Duan Xue said, turning to look at Li Chenzhou, as there were no zombies in front of her at the moment.
"That's right! There are things we don't want to do, but we have to do them, because we don't want to die!"
Li Chenzhou nodded, somewhat touched, and then reached out and took the battle blade he had given her from her hand. He looked at the still-gleaming, bloodless blade and asked,
"Your main attribute is strength? I thought it would be agility, or like Xiao Lei, a mental type!"
"It's strength!"
Duan Xue nodded and suddenly smiled.
"It's not strange that Xiao Lei is a mental type, because he's been smart since he was a child. Plus... since he couldn't move around freely, he just spent every day researching things. Like he said, if his legs can't move, he'll just use his brain more!
As for my main attribute being strength... that was actually expected!"
Hearing Duan Xue's words, Li Chenzhou turned to look at her curiously.
"Because I've always been strong!"
Duan Xue smiled.
"You know we run a convenience store. We get a lot of deliveries every time, and the workers would help me move them to the warehouse, but after that, I had to do it myself!
Unpacking, stocking, and moving those big boxes around when taking inventory, and when Xiao Lei had to go to the hospital, I had to carry him up and down the stairs. Do you think... I could have kept going without some strength?"
As she spoke, Duan Xue raised her hands and tucked her hair behind her ears, saying softly,
"Some people say that women are inherently weak, but mothers are strong. Actually, older sisters can be the same way. As long as you care enough, anyone can be strong!"
Li Chenzhou looked at Duan Xue and nodded gently. Then he looked at the panel. Duan Xue's loyalty was still fifty, and it hadn't increased at all! But Li Chenzhou didn't care about that anymore, and he didn't plan to kick Duan Xue out of the team.
Duan Xue had joined the team because of Duan Lei. Even though he had healed Duan Lei's legs and allowed him to stand up again, Duan Xue was only grateful to him, not loyal.
The same was true of the evolution potion he had given her later. The reason why Duan Xue wanted to change herself was to avoid being a burden to her brother. So, if Duan Lei left the team, Duan Xue would follow without hesitation.
In other words, Duan Xue's loyalty was based on Duan Lei. If Duan Lei was here, she would be here. If Duan Lei left, she would leave. Li Chenzhou could be a benefactor, a captain, or even a lover in her eyes, but no matter what her relationship with him, the most important person in Duan Xue's eyes would always be her younger brother, Duan Lei!
That was why Duan Xue's loyalty was exactly fifty points. Because whether she left or not didn't depend on her, but on Duan Lei!
"You're a good older sister!"
Li Chenzhou sighed, handed the blade back to Duan Xue, and turned to look at the market's first-floor lobby.
"Without you, Xiao Lei wouldn't be standing there now! Or have grown to this extent!"
"No! You're the one who made him stand up, not me!"
Duan Xue also turned to look and answered seriously.
"Hahahaha! If it weren't for you, Xiao Lei wouldn't have made it to the day he met me!"
Li Chenzhou suddenly laughed and then looked at Duan Xue.
"I've been watching you fight up there, but I haven't seen you use your skill. You haven't used it, have you?"
"Mm!"
To Li Chenzhou's surprise, Duan Xue actually blushed a little when she heard this, and only hummed softly in response!
"Xiao Xue! You have to know that we're teammates, so we'll have many times when we'll be fighting side by side in the future. So, we have to understand each other and know what kind of abilities our partners have, so that we can cooperate better!"
Li Chenzhou turned to look at Duan Xue seriously.
"I'm not trying to hide anything. I just think... that skill isn't suitable for girls!"
Duan Xue explained quickly, and by the end, her voice was almost tearful.
Li Chenzhou couldn't help but be curious. What kind of skill wasn't suitable for girls, so much so that she was too embarrassed to say it?
