Lord of Illusions City

Chapter 45 Are There Survivors?

Chapter 1 Arriving at the Ground

Having reached the ground, Li Chenzhou waited for Duan Lei to slide down with Duan Xue. He handed the grizzly bear to Duan Lei, grabbed two ropes, and pulled one of them forcefully. The entire rope came tumbling down.

After stowing the ropes, Li Chenzhou drew his battle blade, looked back at Duan Lei, who was now carrying the grizzly bear on his shoulder, and said,

"Follow me!"

Then, Li Chenzhou took the lead and charged towards the building ahead!

Because of the previous slaughter, the area in front of the building was clear, but there were still many zombies inside. This was a twenty-story office building, with the first five floors rented out to businesses like shopping malls, supermarkets, cinemas, and restaurants, and the floors above used as office space.

Seeing the zombies wandering around in the first-floor mall, Li Chenzhou didn't disturb them. He waved to signal Duan Lei to follow and went to the side door of the building!

The side door was an emergency exit near the stairwell, and there was another door between the entrance to the stairwell and the mall, so there wasn't a single zombie here.

Li Chenzhou gently pulled the door, but to his surprise, it was locked. He was stunned for a moment, then leaned against the glass and looked inside, finding that the door leading to the mall was covered with newspapers, blocking the glass entirely.

"Someone's here!"

Li Chenzhou immediately realized. After looking around and finding no suitable position, he took out a wire from his bag and quickly picked the lock, opening the door and signaling Duan Lei to come in.

He opened the stairwell door, which wasn't locked, and Li Chenzhou led Duan Lei upstairs. Fortunately, Duan Lei's physical attributes were quite good, so even though he was carrying two people, he was able to keep up completely.

The stairwell was quiet, with no zombies. There were many bloodstains on the ground, both from zombies and humans, judging by the color.

Moreover, Li Chenzhou specifically noticed that every door leading to the mall and the shops on each floor was covered with newspapers and locked, further confirming to Li Chenzhou that there were survivors in this building.

Li Chenzhou didn't stop on the first five floors at all, because they were all part of the mall. In other words, the first five floors were basically connected, and there wouldn't be any safe, enclosed spaces. The sixth floor was a cinema.

Based on when the apocalypse occurred, the cinema would have been packed at that time, so it was definitely not a place to go.

Li Chenzhou took Duan Lei straight up to the seventh floor in one breath, then stopped.

There were people in this building, and for the time being, Li Chenzhou didn't plan to contact them. According to Li Chenzhou's guess, there shouldn't be too few survivors in this building.

Although, judging by the time the mutation occurred, most companies would have been off work, and there shouldn't be many people in the office building, overtime was common nowadays. Moreover, this was a twenty-story building, and there were countless companies in the fifteen floors, so added together, there might be no fewer people than in Li Yunshan's hotel, not to mention how many could have survived.

Moreover, seven or eight o'clock was the busiest time for this kind of comprehensive shopping mall, and some of the survivors inside would definitely have run to the office building to take refuge. After all, there were zombies everywhere in the mall, and the square outside the mall was even worse. There were countless people taking a walk and enjoying the cool air there in the evening, so the office building was a good choice.

That's why Li Chenzhou stopped on the seventh floor, because the six floors below were full of zombies, so even if there were survivors, they probably wouldn't dare to stay on the seventh floor and would definitely hide as high as possible.

He quietly opened the door on the seventh floor. The layout here was different from the mall. Outside the door was the elevator lobby, and corridors on both sides.

Seeing that there were no zombies, Li Chenzhou opened the door and let Duan Lei in, then randomly walked towards the corridor on the right and looked into the nearest room.

This should be a conference room. It wasn't very big, only about a hundred square meters. In the middle was a round table with chairs around it, but the good thing was that there were no windows on the side facing the corridor, only a small, flat window on the door.

Li Chenzhou took out the wire again and picked the lock, opened the door, and walked in with Xiaoya on his back. After Duan Lei followed, Li Chenzhou immediately locked the door.

"Boss! When will my sister and the others wake up?"

After putting the grizzly bear and Duan Xue on the conference table, Duan Lei asked in a low voice.

"It's hard to say! But they'll definitely be awake by tomorrow at the latest, don't worry!"

Li Chenzhou patted Duan Lei on the shoulder to reassure him.

He didn't know the difference in mental attributes between Duan Xue, the grizzly bear, and Xiaoya, so he couldn't judge. However, Xiaoya was only a Level 1 evolver or awakener, so Duan Xue and the others would definitely wake up in a day at most.

Actually, it was possible to forcibly wake them up now, but that might cause irreparable damage to their minds, so Li Chenzhou wanted to find a temporary safe place!

In fact, it was possible in the inner ring as well, finding a bus or something, so they could wait inside until tomorrow, but that would be a waste of time.

That's right, Li Chenzhou wanted to find a relatively safe place to settle Duan Xue and the others, just so he wouldn't waste time in vain. This was why he chose this building, for the zombies below.

Vehicles, after all, were not safe. If he left, Duan Lei alone would have to take care of Xiaoya and watch Duan Xue and the grizzly bear. He wasn't very reassured.

But this kind of room was fine. As long as Duan Lei locked the door, no enhanced zombies could break it open. As for the windows facing the street... the seventh floor, at this time, wasn't a place that any zombie could climb up to.

Duan Lei nodded when he heard this, finally feeling relieved. Since his boss said it was okay, it must be okay, but he still looked at Xiaoya with lingering fear.

Although Li Chenzhou didn't say it explicitly, Duan Lei could fully guess that his dizziness, as well as his sister and the grizzly bear's coma, were definitely caused by this seemingly adorable little girl.

Li Chenzhou also looked at Xiaoya with a headache. He wanted to go out and hunt zombies. If he killed all the zombies in this mall, he could at least exchange it for another evolution potion, or even two.

But what about Xiaoya? The girl seemed to be close to him now, probably because before she fell unconscious, Gao Lin had told her to follow Li Chenzhou. Out of trust for her father, she began to rely on Li Chenzhou.

Now, the little girl looked at Duan Lei with some fear. If he left, what if the little girl, out of fear or some misunderstanding, launched a targeted mental attack on Duan Lei?

Before, it was just an unconscious release, and Duan Lei and Li Chenzhou would experience dizziness. But if it was targeted... Li Chenzhou was clear about how powerful Xiaoya, the Youming Corpse King, was.
