Lord of Illusions City

Chapter 123 Duan Xue's Mistake

"Understood, Boss!"

Hearing Li Chenzhou's somewhat strange order, Duan Lei couldn't help but pause. Then, looking at the furniture city and noticing survivors hiding in some of the shops, he immediately understood what was happening. He nodded in agreement and turned to run towards the stairs.

Grey Bear looked at Li Chenzhou, then at Duan Lei, his eyes filled with doubt. However, he didn't ask anything. Instead, he reached out and removed the silencer from his rifle, firing a burst at the approaching zombies.

Li Chenzhou also drew his pistol and began to kill. The empty furniture city was instantly filled with the deafening sound of gunfire.

The entire furniture city had only about a hundred zombies. Moreover, all the shops in the furniture city were essentially open-plan, unlike the enclosed shops in a mall. Therefore, not many zombies were trapped.

In just a few minutes, the floor of the hall was covered with zombie corpses. Even though almost all of them had been shot in the head, blood still flowed everywhere, making the scene extremely gory.

However, both Li Chenzhou and Grey Bear were long accustomed to such scenes and didn't care at all. Even Xiaoya merely wrinkled her cute little nose, expressing her dislike of the zombies' smell, before dragging Li Chenzhou towards the mother and baby store.

The mother and baby store had many cartoon-shaped sofas that looked very cute, but they wouldn't fit in the armored vehicle. So, apart from some cushions, Li Chenzhou only took a small baby bed and a beanbag chair that looked like an extra-large pillow!

Xiaoya, on the other hand, found many toys and filled two large bags, hanging them on the bewildered Grey Bear.

While they were "shopping," the survivors in the furniture store also came out. Perhaps because there were few zombies here, and some people had escaped before, there were only a dozen or so survivors in total.

"Excuse me... are you rescuers?"

A middle-aged couple who looked like husband and wife looked at Li Chenzhou and the others, who were picking things in the store, and asked in a low voice.

"No! There's no rescue. Take advantage of the fact that the zombies have been killed and escape quickly. Take that outer ring road and run out of the city. There shouldn't be many zombies on that road."

Li Chenzhou and Xiaoya were busy looking at things. Grey Bear, the only one with nothing to do, pointed to the highway leading to Luo Hong's base.

"Can we... can we follow you..."

The man in the middle-aged couple asked.

"No!"

Before he could finish speaking, Grey Bear interrupted him, saying:

"I told you, we're not rescuers! Leave quickly!"

Seeing the determination on Grey Bear's face, the couple hesitated for a moment before finally running outside. All the people around them, who had seen their conversation and were watching, also gave up on the idea and rushed towards the entrance of the furniture city.

Looking at these survivors leaving in fear, Grey Bear sighed.

He now truly understood why Li Chenzhou never wanted to bring anyone along. Just like he had told Leopard before, they really couldn't save everyone.

The couple just now seemed quite honest. In fact, according to Grey Bear's thinking, it wouldn't have mattered to bring them along. Although his car was full of boxes of weapons and ammunition, there was always room for two more people.

Moreover, Grey Bear felt that with his current strength, even if these two wanted to stab him in the back, they wouldn't have the ability.

But the problem was that everyone else was watching. As soon as he relented, Grey Bear was sure that the survivors watching from the sidelines would definitely rush up and beg him to take them along!

Grey Bear could even imagine that if he refused, some of those people might jump out and say why he could take those two people but not them—people are concerned about unequal distribution rather than poverty! That's just how people are!

If you're going to take people, take them all, or don't take any at all. Otherwise, those who aren't taken will feel unbalanced—Grey Bear realized that as time went on, he was increasingly understanding Li Chenzhou, but he didn't know if this was a good thing or a bad thing!

Moreover, Grey Bear felt that Li Chenzhou must have had other intentions in coming to this furniture store, otherwise he wouldn't have sent Duan Lei out. But Grey Bear couldn't figure out what Li Chenzhou wanted to do!

With everything taken, Li Chenzhou walked out of the store and didn't plan to search for anything else in the other stores. The supplies in the furniture city were basically useless.

But Li Chenzhou wasn't in a hurry to leave. Instead, he had Grey Bear take Xiaoya to wait downstairs in the hall while he rushed up the stairs, all the way to the top floor. He stood by the window and looked at the road they were about to take, firing a shot on each floor to see if there were any zombies that had been missed!

Afterward, Li Chenzhou ran down. On the second floor, he found Duan Lei, who, when he turned around and saw Li Chenzhou, actually looked a bit conflicted before nodding to Li Chenzhou.

Li Chenzhou took a deep breath and then jumped directly down to the first floor. With a wave of his hand, Grey Bear quickly led Xiaoya and followed Li Chenzhou out of the furniture city.

In front of the armored vehicle Duan Xue was in, a zombie appeared. A fruit knife was stuck in the zombie's neck. It seemed that someone had tried to kill the zombie, but they didn't know that zombies only die when shot in the head, so this zombie was still alive.

Li Chenzhou looked up at Duan Lei, who was peeking out from the second floor, and then walked forward, grabbed the zombie's hair, and pulled it back. He reached out, pulled out the fruit knife from its neck, and then stabbed it into its temple.

The zombie's roar stopped instantly. Li Chenzhou pushed the corpse aside. At that moment, the armored vehicle's middle door opened automatically, and an old man of about sixty years old jumped out, his right hand and body covered in blood.

After jumping out, the old man actually turned around and closed the door. Then, he stood in front of Li Chenzhou, his eyes dull, and was actually being controlled by Duan Lei.

Li Chenzhou frowned and casually opened the driver's door. He found a lot more blood in the driver's seat, and Duan Xue was holding Xiao Yu'er, looking at him with a frightened expression.

"What happened? Tell me!"

Li Chenzhou leaned in and looked inside the car. There was no one else. Then, he looked at Duan Xue and asked calmly.

"I... I..."

A look of guilt appeared on Duan Xue's face. She didn't dare to look Li Chenzhou in the eye and said in a low voice:

"I let someone in!"

Then, in Duan Xue's intermittent account, Li Chenzhou finally understood everything.

After they left, Duan Xue stayed in the car with Xiao Yu'er. After a while, survivors ran out of the furniture city. After seeing Duan Xue in the armored vehicle, someone came over and knocked on the car door, begging Duan Xue to open the door.

But Duan Xue remembered Li Chenzhou's words and didn't agree to them. She just told them to find other cars and leave quickly, as there were still zombies nearby.

Those who could get to the furniture city, whether they were buying furniture or selling furniture, actually had their own cars. They wanted to get on the armored vehicle mainly because they saw how mighty the car looked.

But seeing that Duan Xue was really determined not to open the door, and also guessing that the people inside might be related to the person holding the child, those people didn't dare to go too far and left one after another.

And after those people left, a middle-aged man in his thirties, supporting an old man in his sixties, appeared in front of Duan Xue...
