Lord of Illusions City

Chapter 103 Evasive Maneuvers

"What do we do?"

Gray Bear looked at the convoy in the distance and said, "We can't drive now. As long as I sit in front, that guy will shoot. What's worse, this road is clear and there's no cover. Charging straight ahead is suicide!"

"If we can't charge forward, we'll retreat!"

Li Chenzhou stared into the distance, his eyes flashing coldly.

"You're going to get the sniper rifle?"

Gray Bear immediately understood Li Chenzhou's intention. He looked back at the armory and shook his head slightly. "That's too dangerous. We might as well drive straight through!"

"Didn't you say the car's glass can't stop that sniper's bullets?" Li Chenzhou asked.

"But at least it won't shatter with one shot!" Gray Bear said. "It takes at least three shots to break the glass. By then, we'll be within rifle range! You provide suppressing fire, and I'll try to rush them!"

"Damn it! Even an armored car can't stop a sniper rifle. You special ops guys are something else!" Li Chenzhou couldn't help but complain.

"Special ops aren't real soldiers. We deal with vicious criminals. Do we need tanks in the city?" Gray Bear retorted. "Besides, in our country, even the strongest thugs only have pistols and rifles. This armor is enough. No criminal can get their hands on a Barrett anti-material rifle!"

"Well, now you've seen some!" Li Chenzhou pointed to the convoy in the distance.

"You'd better decide quickly! Either I drive back and we get a sniper rifle to counter-snipe, or I drive forward, and when we're close enough, you suppress the sniper while I assault!" Gray Bear asked, not wanting to argue.

"Neither! I'll go back myself!" Li Chenzhou replied.

"Are you sure?" Gray Bear was taken aback. "The Barrett has an effective range of 1,500 meters. To get out of range, you have to run at least 500 meters. And that's just the theoretical range. Someone reportedly killed a target at nearly 1,800 meters! That means you'll be under fire all the way from here to the armory!"

"Don't worry! He won't hit me!" Li Chenzhou looked into the distance and said grimly, then patted Luo Hong on the shoulder. "You guys stay in the car. I'll take care of this problem."

Meanwhile, the sniper was aiming at them. Because everyone was in the passenger compartment, he didn't shoot. He knew his rifle wouldn't do much to the armored car's shell. He was waiting for someone to sit in the driver's seat or try to escape. That would be his moment to strike.

"Director Lin, they're pinned down and hiding in the car. What do we do?" Wu Tian asked, seeing that the situation seemed to be at a standstill.

"Wait! They only have one car. They'll come out eventually!" Lin Qiang replied, pouring another glass of wine. "We're more patient than them. Just wait. Tell Wang Tao to cripple that young man if he can, but leave him alive! The others don't matter!"

"Understood!" Wu Tian replied immediately. Wang Tao was the sniper lying on the bus!

Hearing Wu Tian's order, Wang Tao frowned. His rifle was 12.7mm caliber. Even if a bullet didn't hit someone directly, it could still tear off a chunk of flesh. Now he had to wound the target, which was much harder.

Before he could respond, he saw a figure dash out of the armored car and run in the opposite direction—the young man Lin Qiang had said not to kill.

He immediately adjusted his aim to lock onto the target, but then he noticed that Li Chenzhou was running in a strange, erratic zigzag pattern, his body constantly twitching. He couldn't lock on!

"An expert!" Wang Tao exclaimed in shock. As a sniper, he had anti-sniper training. Li Chenzhou's footwork was unlike anything he had ever seen. And what was more important… why was he so fast? Using a zigzag evasion, he was running faster than a straight sprint, covering a hundred meters in just four or five seconds?

Li Chenzhou's performance stunned Wang Tao, who stared blankly for a few seconds before snapping back to reality. He took a deep breath, forced himself to calm down, and placed his finger on the trigger.

"Bang!"

After aiming for another two seconds, Wang Tao realized he still couldn't lock onto Li Chenzhou. A look of ferocity flashed across his face, and he pulled the trigger, aiming slightly to the left of Li Chenzhou's body.

Against such a powerful opponent, he had to gamble. Because of the zigzag evasion, Li Chenzhou's body was always moving, either left or right.

So, Wang Tao aimed slightly to the left. If Li Chenzhou happened to be moving left at that moment, he would run right into the bullet. Wang Tao no longer cared whether the bullet killed him.

In fact, Wang Tao hoped he could kill the terrifying man with one shot. This person was too frightening. He wouldn't be able to sleep soundly with such an enemy around.

"Thwack!"

The bullet passed about half a meter from Li Chenzhou, leaving another hole in the ground. The muffled gunshot echoed again, but Li Chenzhou seemed not to hear it, continuing to flee at full speed!

The evasion technique he was using didn't come from any instructor's combat training but from his past life experience. After all, in his previous life, he had to face the greatest enemy of all: other survivors.

Some people would lie in wait in cities, trying to snipe other survivors to steal their equipment and resources, sometimes even getting lucky enough to find mutated crystal cores.

In his previous life, if Li Chenzhou hadn't learned this footwork, he would have been dead years ago and wouldn't have made it to ten years later.

The armored car was about a kilometer from the armory. At Li Chenzhou's current speed, that was only forty or fifty seconds. And that was because he had to use the evasion technique and couldn't sprint at full speed. Otherwise, it would be even shorter.

Forty or fifty seconds was only five or six shots for a Barrett sniper. To Wang Tao's frustration, none of the five bullets he fired hit Li Chenzhou, not even a graze. All he did was add five more craters to the ground…
