Lord of Illusions City

Chapter 475 Lend Me Your Gun

"Little one, consider this a test for you. Let's see what you do!"

Dugu Tianfeng murmured, watching their departing figures.

Leaving the base, Li Chenzhou realized they were in a mountain range. It seemed this was another exit!

Although he had been blindfolded on the way here, he could at least confirm that this route was different from the one they had taken.

There were no vehicles at the exit, and they couldn't drive anyway. They had to walk, because driving would make them a larger target, easily spotted by the Devourers' Cage Fighters.

Fortunately, the next base was only about twenty kilometers away, a distance they could cover in just over ten minutes.

On the way, Li Chenzhou found it strange. Why didn't they build a tunnel connecting the two bases underground, given the short distance of only twenty kilometers and the danger on the surface?

With their capabilities, it shouldn't be impossible. After all, it was much simpler than building such a massive base!

So, Li Chenzhou asked a young man following behind him. The young man smiled and said:

"Building a tunnel connecting the bases is certainly easy. We could even build tunnels capable of handling railways. But while it would be convenient, it poses a huge risk!

"It's said that the initial blueprints for the underground bases included underground tunnels connecting all the bases, with both vehicular and rail transport.

"But as soon as the blueprints were released, someone raised an objection: we're building underground bases to avoid the Devourers. Connecting the bases like this would allow them to find all our bases if one was discovered. They could simply follow the tunnels.

"Once he brought it up, everyone thought about it carefully and realized he was right. So, the underground tunnels were rejected, and no one ever mentioned building them again.

"Although this makes travel between our bases inconvenient and even dangerous, it ensures the safety of the bases. Even if one is discovered by the Devourers, it won't endanger the others!"

"Oh!"

Li Chenzhou suddenly understood and nodded repeatedly. He hadn't even considered this before. Now that he thought about it, connecting all the bases with tunnels was indeed a bad idea, making it easy for the Devourers to wipe them out.

As they ran, they quickly left the mountain range. Perhaps because of the Devourers, there were no large creatures to be seen, only insects, arthropods, and small flying bugs.

"We planted these ourselves. We didn't even clear the weeds, for fear of the Devourers recognizing human intervention. Devourers don't consume plants, so they don't recognize these crops!"

As they passed through some dense vegetation, the people around Li Chenzhou introduced it to him. Looking at the vegetation, Li Chenzhou didn't recognize it either, let alone the Devourers.

It seemed there were still some differences between the creatures of each world! But humans were no different, even speaking the same language, which Li Chenzhou found rather strange!

In the mountains, they didn't need to hide much. There were tall trees and dense vegetation everywhere, so even if there were Devourer fighters, they wouldn't be able to spot them.

But after leaving the mountains, they needed to be more careful. On the plains, a few moving people could easily be discovered.

Fortunately, they were lucky and didn't encounter any Devourer fighters. They managed to reach the city where the next base was located without incident.

The underground bases in this world are built near abandoned cities, because they can use local materials. Also, if the base is discovered by the Devourers, they can quickly escape into the city, which is better than scattering and running in the wilderness.

The base they were heading to was designated e-07. All the bases here have no names, only numbers based on the region!

To enter Base e-07, they needed to pass through an abandoned city. This was also relatively safe, because the city was full of buildings, making it easy to hide.

The Devourers' Cage Fighters make noise when they fly, so as long as they hid when they heard the sound, the Cage Fighters would have a hard time finding them.

After all, none of the people Dugu Tianfeng sent with Li Chenzhou were above level five. Ability users of this level are not within the Devourers' hunting range!

Entering the city, everyone breathed a sigh of relief and seemed much more relaxed. But because time was of the essence, they still ran as fast as they could. As ability users, their stamina was far greater than ordinary people, so running this distance was nothing to them!

But just then, the buzzing of a Cage Fighter could actually be heard in the distance. Li Chenzhou and the others quickly hid in a nearby building, quietly waiting for the fighter to leave.

The roar of the fighter grew louder and then faded away. Li Chenzhou and the others thought the danger had passed, but suddenly they heard the sound of the Cage Fighter getting louder and louder. It was actually returning?

"What's going on? Did it find us?"

Li Yun frowned and whispered.

Li Yun was the one who had been chatting with Li Chenzhou all the way. He seemed to be the leader of these people.

Originally, it should have been the young man named Zhang Yu leading the team, but Dugu Tianfeng knew that Zhang Yu secretly hated Li Chenzhou, so he would not let him lead the team.

So all the way, Zhang Yu ran at the back and did not speak, only the young man who had spoken for him in front of Dugu Tianfeng kept him company!

"Maybe it's returning to base?"

Li Chenzhou guessed.

"No, Cage Fighters search in circles. They basically never turn around. If it's returning, it can only mean it's found something. Maybe we left a trail, or maybe there are people from Base Seven nearby!"

Li Yun whispered:

"I think it's most likely that we left some kind of trail. Base Seven has been in this area all along, so there's no reason for them to be exposed!!!"

"We'll find out soon enough!"

Li Chenzhou said, looking at the fighter outside through the broken window.

Perhaps he was having too much fun earning a large number of slaughter points. Now Li Chenzhou saw everything as slaughter points. Looking at the Cage Fighter, he was thinking that this thing… seemed to be made of the life metal secreted by the Mother Nest.

Since it had life characteristics, shouldn't it be considered a mutated creature in the shape of a fighter? The fighter must also contain mutated substances. So, could this thing be acquired? Was it valuable?

"Hey! That's a Devourer Cage Fighter! If we can bring one back, it would be of great benefit to the base! So, lend me your gun, I'll shoot it down!!!"

Just as Li Chenzhou was secretly calculating how many slaughter points this Cage Fighter was worth, Zhang Yu suddenly stepped up to Li Chenzhou, reached out his hand, and said to him...
