Chapter 1403: Chapter 1403: A Helpless Move
Old Master Summers initially thought of discussing with Atra Blanc about raising the child under his eldest son’s name.
Dylan Summers had no children and urgently needed one.
But doing so, without even mentioning whether Atra Blanc would agree, would be unacceptable to his daughter-in-law. If it aroused her suspicions, causing her to think Atra Blanc and Dylan had an affair, it would only create unnecessary trouble.
On the way home, Old Master Summers fell into deep thought.
Atra Blanc sat beside him, curiously looking at the rearview mirror ahead, which reflected both her and Old Master Summers.
It felt strangely familiar, as if she had seen it somewhere before.
In the depths of her blurred memory, she’d vaguely seen such a person, with white hair, distinct wrinkles, an elderly yet handsome face, and bright, sharp eyes…
He said, “Does the age difference really matter that much?”
He also said, “You forgetting it doesn’t mean I will. I have a good memory, I won’t forget.”
I have a good memory, I won’t forget.
I won’t forget…
Atra Blanc looked silently at Old Master Summers.
Could it be him? Somewhat like, yet somewhat unlike.
Old Master Summers’ hair was actually quite black, only graying at the temples… while the old man in her memory had much whiter hair.
Of course, she wasn’t sure, as her memory was all muddled now.
…
Old Master Summers deliberated for two days and finally decided to clarify things with Atra Blanc.
“You were originally hired as a caregiver. I’m an old fool with no woman at my side to attend to daily life, facing a lonely old age. After spending some time with you, I wanted to marry you, but considering my age and limited time, I feared that when I’m gone, you’ll have a difficult standing in the Summers Family. So… I had you undergo artificial insemination.”
He spoke slowly while observing Atra Blanc’s expression, seeing she had no particularly resistant reaction, he continued, “I didn’t expect you to suddenly lose your memory… I realize this matter must be hard for a girl to accept. You’ve cut ties with the Blanc Family and now you’re carrying the Summers Family’s child. What… plans do you have?”
Atra stared at him blankly, as if unable to digest the “facts” he fabricated.
The guilt and shame weighed heavily in his heart, and Old Master Summers silently sighed.
He continued, “You’re young and certainly unable to consider everything thoroughly for now, naturally requiring me to worry more… I can provide money to help you acquire property outside, but raising a child alone will be tough… If you’d like, you can become the lady of the Summers Family. The child, regardless of gender, will be the most cherished child of the Summers household. If you’re unwilling, I won’t force it, and we can discuss other solutions…”
“I would!” said Atra.
Old Master Summers was slightly taken aback.
Atra’s cheeks flushed, and she softly repeated, “Not forced, I’m willing…”
She was willing.
The guilt and shame not only did not fade but felt heavier and weightier, like thick tar covering his heart, inducing Old Master Summers into stifling and oppressive pain.
…
Deciding to marry requires a divorce first.
Old Master Summers notified Janelle Roberts to come back for the procedures. Janelle cursed him over the phone, but Old Master Summers was unmoved, and Janelle began to sob bitterly.
When crying yielded no effect, Janelle became furious, angrily cursing him over the phone, accusing Old Master Summers of being heartless, playing with a young girl at his age, shameless.
Her voice was loud enough for the housekeeper nearby to hear.
After the call ended, the housekeeper sighed softly, “Sir, what’s the point?”
“If I marry her, people may at most say a few sarcastic things, but if he marries her, being a father at fifteen…” Old Master Summers closed his eyes, extremely exhausted, “the spittle from tongues could drown the Summers Family.”
The child in Atra Blanc’s belly absolutely cannot be Clyde Summers’.
