Chapter 1316 Dragon City Under a Dark Cloud
A black SUV was slowly driving along the street, hugging the curb.
A woman with a surgically enhanced face, wearing a mask, sat in the back seat, peering out the window.
This was a shantytown in Daokou, with dilapidated buildings lining both sides of the street. Many were old red brick buildings, their walls marked with the vicissitudes of time.
The street was already narrow, and many cars were parked haphazardly, along with numerous small restaurants that had set up stalls directly on the roadside.
Looking around, groups of three to five drunkards were huddled around the stalls, drinking cheap liquor, eating inexpensive dishes, their faces flushed as they shouted loudly.
Under the dim streetlights, many scantily clad women were soliciting customers.
The woman with the surgically enhanced face knew that these people were involved in maritime trade in the Daokou District. Now that the sea trade was banned, they were idle, without a livelihood, and their tempers were frayed.
Further away, various slogans were spray-painted in red on the walls on both sides. These were sprayed by the local residents of Dragon City, filled with words of protest, many of them crude and offensive.
Judging by the paint, some of it was still fresh, probably sprayed in the last few days.
In the alleys off the street, young men wearing baseball caps could be seen peddling illegal psychotropic drugs.
One after another, customers crowded around to trade, using their remaining money to exchange for contraband, their faces filled with satisfaction.
At this moment, Dragon City exuded a sense of desolation, suppression… and an eerie prosperity, as if a great battle was about to begin.
After a while, the car slowly stopped at an intersection. Heavily made-up women immediately approached, only to be impatiently waved away by the driver.
After waiting for a few minutes, a man appeared from the intersection. He was wearing a thick coat, looked to be about thirty-six or thirty-seven years old, and gave a gentle gesture as he walked towards the car.
The driver confirmed the man's identity, opened the passenger door, and let him into the car.
After getting in, the man immediately greeted, "Hello, my name is Lu Sheng."
As Lu Sheng spoke, he was about to turn his head to look at the woman with the surgically enhanced face in the back, but the driver immediately reminded him, "Hey, don't turn around!"
Lu Sheng was taken aback, and obediently turned his head back.
The woman with the surgically enhanced face slowly took out a small USB drive from her pocket, threw it to Lu Sheng from behind, and said softly, "The contact list and connection methods are all inside… Handle it according to these lists. Also, tell the people above that we will gather the personnel in three days and do something big together."
Lu Sheng took the USB drive and carefully put it into his close-fitting pocket, and said at the same time: "Okay, I got it."
The woman with the surgically enhanced face paused, and then added: "Also, you have to take good care of the people on your side for me."
"I understand, don't worry." Lu Sheng nodded.
…
Two minutes later, the two sides finished their conversation, and Lu Sheng hurriedly got out of the car.
The black SUV didn't stop for a moment and sped away immediately.
The autumn wind was bleak, and the cold was biting. Lu Sheng couldn't help but pull up his collar, subconsciously glanced around, and then started walking along the street.
At the same time, Lu Sheng took out a brand-new mobile phone from his pocket, dialed a number, and said as he walked: "Boss, I have finished the meeting, and I have also got the list."
A man's voice came from the microphone: "Then get ready… Go meet that person."
"Okay, I'll go over now." Lu Sheng hung up the phone and continued walking with his head down.
About twenty minutes later, Lu Sheng walked more than a kilometer and came to a nearby compound.
The compound was built near a red shantytown building, and it was full of simple tin houses. The entire compound was surrounded by a simple earthen wall, with broken glass embedded on top of the wall.
In front of the courtyard gate, an old man in a military coat was sitting in front of a fruit stand, brushing his mobile phone to pass the time.
The location here was very remote, and the business was relatively poor. There were no customers in front of the fruit stand.
"Pa, pa, pa…"
Hearing a burst of footsteps, the old man immediately raised his head and glanced at Lu Sheng who was approaching.
Lu Sheng nodded to him, the old man said nothing, lowered his head, and continued watching his mobile phone.
Passing through the yard, Lu Sheng passed by the tin house and came to a small warehouse at the innermost part.
Two men stood at the warehouse door. After seeing him, they stretched out their hands and opened the warehouse door.
"Squeak—"
After a heavy iron door sound, accompanied by a musty smell, the situation of the entire warehouse came into view.
Inside the warehouse, there were twenty or so men sitting. These men were burly and sturdy, and they were not ordinary people at first glance.
Some of these people were playing cards, some were checking their guns, and some were resting. Seeing Lu Sheng coming in, they all got up, gathered around, and greeted him one after another.
When he got here, the mobile phone signal was blocked, and these people could not contact the outside world.
"Brother Lu."
"Is there a mission?"
Lu Sheng glanced at everyone and said, "There is something going on above. Start preparing from tonight. Three days later, we will probably have action here. I am in a hurry to go to the next location. You guys distribute the weapons, and I will tell you the location later."
The twenty or so people nodded one after another. Among them, the hem of two people's clothes was slightly lifted, revealing the police badges worn on their belts.
After explaining, Lu Sheng pulled up his collar again, turned and left the warehouse, walked into the cold wind, and hurried to the next location…
…
After working for five or six hours, Lu Sheng, it was already late at night, and the whole street was quiet.
Lu Sheng was a little tired, but he still cheered up, took a few detours, and returned to his residence nearby.
After arriving home, Lu Sheng took a shower, drank some coffee to refresh himself, then changed into a clean police uniform and fastened a police gun to his waist.
After everything was done, Lu Sheng went downstairs, drove his car, and went directly to the nearby Daokou Detention Center.
The entire detention center was surrounded by tall walls, brightly lit. Lu Sheng's car was a police car equipped by the detention center, plus the documents he carried with him, so he was allowed in without any obstruction.
At the same time, in a nearby grove.
A group of people were sitting quietly in the car, the headlights were turned off, hiding their figures.
One of them was Guo Zhengdao. He was holding binoculars, sitting in the passenger seat, quietly watching Lu Sheng's car drive into the detention center.
After a while, Guo Zhengdao put down the binoculars, turned his head, and asked Qiu Ge, who was趴 (pa - lying prone) in the back, "Have you confirmed the person inside?"
Qiu Ge nodded and said, "Confirmed. For this matter, one of our brothers deliberately committed something and stayed in for a few days."
Guo Zhengdao thought for a while, and said in a low voice: "Since this is the case, then we can make a move."
