Chapter 502 The Eldest Brother Who Works Silently
Dr. Pang hosted a dinner for Zhang Taotao at his villa. They talked about business, leaving others unable to interject.
However, observing Zhang Taotao from an outsider's perspective, Su Tiannan suddenly found her quite impressive. She spoke fluently with Dr. Pang, even detailing the formation of the so-called new company, making it sound completely real.
But what was the reality?
There was no new company. It was just an excuse Zhang Taotao had come up with in less than a day to get on the island. It was all lies, yet she managed to weave them together seamlessly, without batting an eye.
Thinking about this, Su Tiannan felt even more afraid of marriage, finding it hard to trust women.
After some meandering conversation, the dinner ended.
Dr. Pang's male student drove them back to their accommodation in a shuttle. It was a very high-end apartment, with even the smallest rooms being over a hundred square meters. Looking at the interior, Su Tiannan guessed that it was specially for the island's intellectuals.
After the man helped them get two rooms, he exchanged a few more pleasantries with Zhang Taotao before leaving by car. As soon as he left, Su Tiannan came out of his room and knocked on Taotao's door.
"What are you doing?" Zhang Taotao asked, opening the door with a frown.
"Sleeping together," Su Tiannan said, walking into the room without hesitation.
Zhang Taotao closed the door helplessly and said in a low voice, "Are you crazy?! You're my assistant, how can you share a room with me? What will people think if they see us?"
"Working during the day, being a male secretary at night, isn't that the life you should have?" Su Tiannan circled the room. "It's just an affair, nothing to be ashamed of!"
"Show me some respect, ok?!"
"..." Su Tiannan stopped talking and dragged her to the balcony. After carefully checking the surroundings to make sure there were no listening devices, he whispered, "We can't rest, we have to go out later."
Zhang Taotao crossed her arms and looked at him. "You have to tell me first, how can I avoid being implicated?"
Su Tiannan thought for a moment. "As long as you cooperate, whatever happens on the island has nothing to do with you. We come normally, we leave normally. Is there a problem before anything starts?"
Zhang Taotao was satisfied with this answer. She was afraid that Su Tiannan would not consider her position when doing things. If something happened on the island and it was traced back to her, she would not be able to explain it.
Although Zhang Taotao's younger brother was arrested, this was definitely not within the scope of Huihong Pharmaceutical's consideration. In other words, if the people on the island found out that Zhang Taotao had a problem, they might not give Bao Long Group any face, because many people here didn't know her.
The two were silent for a while, and Zhang Taotao sighed, "Okay, I'll go out with you. Let me change my clothes first."
"Need any help?" Su Tiannan asked expressionlessly.
"Are you trying to be funny?!" Zhang Taotao cursed, feeling frustrated, and turned to go inside.
"Don't leave my sight." Su Tiannan closed the curtains on the balcony.
...
That night.
Su Tiannan and Zhang Taotao changed into casual clothes and pretended to be sightseeing on the island. They drove a shuttle around the accessible areas.
During this time, Su Tiannan got out of the car several times, specifically looking for places out of the reach of surveillance cameras, and used his mobile phone to take pictures of the soldiers' activity areas and key defense areas.
Zhang Taotao cooperated throughout, even leaning her head on Su Tiannan's shoulder when they met people, pretending to be a couple out for a late-night date.
At 11 p.m., the island's alarm sounded, and a curfew was implemented.
Dr. Pang's student had mentioned this to them. After 11 p.m., non-essential personnel were not allowed to wander around, because they were afraid that someone would run out of the restricted area on the south side of the island.
Everything was ready.
The two returned to the apartment, and Zhang Taotao went to wash up and prepare to rest. Although she was worried about her brother's safety and frustrated with her situation, she had been holding on for so long that her mind and body couldn't take it anymore.
After washing up, the beautiful woman walked out in the apartment's disposable bathrobe. She turned her head and saw Su Tiannan sitting in a chair on the balcony, not coming inside.
"What are you doing?" Zhang Taotao asked.
"I'm not sleeping tonight, you go to sleep," Su Tiannan replied, smoking a cigarette.
"How can I sleep if you're not sleeping?"
"Don't be so presumptuous. I haven't touched you even when you're practically naked, what appeal do you have?" Su Tiannan replied impatiently.
"...Are you sick? I mean... how can I sleep with you sitting there like you're guarding a corpse?"
"Just turn around and you'll fall asleep," Su Tiannan said and stopped paying attention to her.
Zhang Taotao looked at him speechlessly and sat on the bed in a daze for a long time after turning off the light.
Su Tiannan had a reason for not sleeping. He leaned on the chair, looking out the window, overlooking the situation on the south side of the island, and carefully recording the soldiers' activity patterns and shift change times in his mind.
In the evening, Su Tiannan received a call from Gou Liuzi, knowing that his family had already set off, and he didn't have much time left.
At some point, Zhang Taotao fell asleep on the bed.
Nothing happened that night, and the sky brightened.
At six o'clock in the morning, as soon as the curfew ended, Su Tiannan changed into sportswear and went downstairs for a morning run, because this was probably the time when he could get closest to the restricted area on the south side of the island.
Taking advantage of the few people in the morning, Su Tiannan ran around the south side of the island, secretly taking many photos before preparing to return. But on the way back, he kept feeling like someone was following him.
At first, Su Tiannan thought he was just too nervous and it was his imagination, but when he arrived at the apartment, he really saw a soldier following him from behind.
This made Su Tiannan feel a little flustered, so he chose to stand in the lobby and pretended to be smoking instead of taking the elevator immediately.
The soldier passed by, glanced over roughly, and entered the corridor.
Su Tiannan waited for five minutes, feeling that enough time had passed, before entering the elevator, but before he could press the floor button, the soldier also came in.
The two looked at each other. Su Tiannan didn't press the floor button, but asked with a smile, "What floor are you going to?"
The soldier didn't seem to understand Mandarin and just pressed a floor number.
Su Tiannan looked at him and pressed his floor number as well.
A dozen seconds later, the two got off the elevator on different floors. Su Tiannan stood in the corridor, not returning to his room immediately, but waiting quietly.
Sure enough, after a while, the indicator light for his floor lit up.
This made Su Tiannan feel very uneasy. He immediately swiped his card to open the door, and after entering the room, he immediately cleared his mobile phone and transmitted all the information to Gou Liuzi.
Zhang Taotao was fast asleep on the bed. Su Tiannan frowned, walked over, bent down and stared at her, reaching out and patting her cheek.
Zhang Taotao woke up.
"Pa!"
Su Tiannan grabbed her neck. "Are you messing with me? What do you mean by having someone follow me?!"
Zhang Taotao was confused after being woken up early in the morning, and her face turned red as she replied, "Are... are you suffering from paranoia?!"
