Wei Jie
Chapter 557 Cancer Warrior?
Inside the second-floor dormitory warehouse, the young man's breath came in heavy gasps, sweat trickling from his temples, his nerves stretched taut.
Leaning against the wall, the young man clutched a gun in his right hand, his left repeatedly wiping sweat from his trousers.
"Can't we talk this out? Do you really have to go in there?" Fei Guangtou continued to shout from outside, trying to reason with him.
Near the stairwell, a member of the security department asked Fei Guangtou, "Boss, why don't we just rush him? Why waste words?"
"Your brain's been kicked by a donkey," Fei Guangtou retorted, spitting on the ground. "The kid's got a gun, and we don't even know why he's here. If we charge in blindly, and he kills one or wounds two, is it worth it? He's not going anywhere. Why push it? Why not wait for the professionals?"
Su Tianyu fully agreed with Fei Guangtou's assessment. "Exactly, he's not going anywhere. Just wait it out!"
As they spoke, a faint sound of footsteps echoed from the corridor.
"Quiet, quiet!" Su Tianyu waved his hand, signaling everyone to silence, trying to discern the situation inside.
"Ah?!?!"
Just then, a desperate roar erupted from the room. The young man suddenly burst out, wielding a solid wood chair above his head as a shield, charging towards the stairwell like a madman.
"Shit!"
"Freeze!" Fei Guangtou yelled, raising his gun.
"Ah!"
The young man's eyes were bloodshot, his face pale, as he charged straight towards Su Tianyu.
The distance between the room and the stairwell was no more than a dozen steps. At full sprint, an adult could cover that in the blink of an eye.
Seeing the man charging, Su Tianyu didn't hesitate. He pulled the trigger. "Bang! Bang!"
Two shots rang out in quick succession, one hitting the chair above his head, the other striking his chest, but no blood splattered.
"He's wearing a bulletproof vest!" Fei Guangtou shouted.
"No, scatter! Scatter!" Su Tianyu immediately retreated, yelling.
"To hell with you all, let's die together!"
The young man swung his arms, hurling the chair, which struck two men in the stairwell on the head. Then, he charged towards Su Tianyu!
The distance between them was now no more than five meters!
Seeing the man's erratic movements, Su Tianyu reacted instantly, leaning back and raising his arm, firing at his head!
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Three shots rang out, and the assailant's head exploded.
"Thud!"
Su Tianyu fell to the ground, rolling away clumsily.
"Boom!"
A violent explosion echoed through the corridor. The men in the stairwell saw only a flash of orange light, followed by the sensation of flesh and blood splattering across their bodies.
Su Tianyu, clutching his head, rolled twice on the ground before stopping, his ears ringing, a fiery pain searing his thigh.
"Are you okay?!"
"Is everyone alright?!"
"Is he dead?!"
"!..."
Voices of concern and questions arose from the stairwell.
Fei Guangtou sat on the stairs, clutching his abdomen, cursing, "He's dead! Get the hell off me!! You're crushing me!"
In the corridor, Su Tianyu shook his head, turning to look at the site of the explosion. The young man's right arm was completely blown apart, his head riddled with bullets, half of his body a bloody mess. He was beyond dead.
Su Tianyu stared at the corpse, the blood-soaked floor, and the scattered concrete dust, swallowing hard.
Dog Six had seen combat on the independent battlefield. During his time in the military, he had undergone countless demolition and grenade-throwing exercises, making him a man of exceptional mental fortitude. But at this moment, he was genuinely scared shitless!
When the man charged, he was clearly prepared to die. He wanted to take someone with him, and he had chosen Su Tianyu!
Judging from the force of the explosion and the damage to the corpse, it was clearly a grenade!
But!!
If!!
If the man had used explosives instead of a grenade, given the distance, Su Tianyu would have had no chance of escape. He would most likely be dead, or at the very least, severely injured and disabled!
He had been relaxing in the base camp, just starting to unwind, when this happened. How could anyone not be afraid? Who wouldn't be shaking? This was far beyond what anyone's mental fortitude could handle!
Su Tianyu blinked, and after a few seconds, he supported himself against the wall, standing up. The towel around his waist had fallen, revealing his body.
"Brother Fei, Brother Fei, are you okay?!"
"...Don't move, don't move. Shrapnel hit my abdomen!" Fei Guangtou waved his hand, signaling everyone not to help him. He wanted to stand up on his own.
Su Tianyu rushed over, still shaken, asking, "Are...are you alright!"
Fei Guangtou's face was ashen, sweat pouring down his face from the pain. "Goddamn it, I've had such bad luck these last few days! Beaten up for no reason, and now I almost got blown up... I need to find a master to cleanse me of this bad luck!"
"Can you get up?!"
"Yes, yes!" Old Fei leaned against the wall, standing up. He loosened his right hand slightly, revealing a bloody wound on his abdomen. "I checked it, it's not too deep. Hurry, hurry, get me to the hospital!"
Old Fei was very concerned about his life, so he kept urging everyone.
"Get my clothes from the room!" Su Tianyu shouted.
Old Fei walked downstairs, muttering in lingering fear, "This guy must be a crazy suicide bomber, or a soldier with terminal cancer! A normal person would never react like that...!"
...
The Golden Triangle, the Gui family.
Old Man Gui sat on the sofa, softly asking his son, "How did it go? Smoothly?!"
"Everything went smoothly. We just followed the plan for donating the funds," Gui Mengjun said, lighting a cigarette. "We do this every year. We're used to it."
Old Man Gui nodded, and asked, "Have you heard any news?"
"Ah!" Gui Mengjun sighed. "Governor Pu...may not have much time left!"
"Any information?"
"Yes, he went into surgery again the day before yesterday, and he's been in a coma ever since. He's unconscious," Gui Mengjun said softly. "The best estimate is three to five months, but the worst-case scenario is that he could...could go at any time!"
Governor Pu, whom Gui Mengjun mentioned, was the actual leader of the Golden Triangle region. He was already in his late seventies, seriously ill, and very close to death.
Old Man Gui sighed after listening. "A remarkable man!"
"Birth, old age, sickness, and death are unavoidable," Gui Mengjun replied softly.
Old Man Gui slowly stood up. "You don't understand the feelings our generation has for him. Alas, without him, there would be no Golden Triangle today!"
Gui Mengjun nodded slowly.
Old Man Gui took two steps in the room, then suddenly turned his head and said, "When are you and Mingming going to set the wedding date?"
