Chapter 607 Seven Hours for One Sentence
Inside the Municipal Building.
Li Yuan, in a suit and tie, exited the elevator with a beaming smile, quickening his pace. "Oh! Minister Kang, what brings you here?"
Kang Dinghuang stood up and extended his hand. "Hello, Secretary Li."
"Hello, hello!" Li Yuan shook his hand.
Kang Dinghuang paused, then said humbly, "It's like this, our Special Intelligence Department has encountered some problems, and I'd like to speak with Mayor Li in person."
"Oh, that's unfortunate." Li Yuan chuckled. "The mayor has three meetings today, none of which can be postponed!"
"It's alright, I can wait," Kang Dinghuang insisted.
"Well… that could be a very long wait."
"Whenever Mayor Li is free, we can talk," Kang Dinghuang completely ignored the other's excuses. "No rush."
"Alright, come with me!" Li Yuan stepped aside.
"Thank you!"
As they walked towards the elevator, Li Yuan asked with a smile, "Minister Kang, you're new to Dragon City, aren't you? How is it? Are you adjusting to the environment? No acclimatization problems, I hope?"
"Not really adjusting; I got a little hot-headed and overstepped my boundaries," Minister Kang sighed.
"It's okay, you're a capable worker, you'll adjust quickly!" Li Yuan said casually, pressing the up button.
Three minutes later.
Outside a small conference room, Li Yuan pointed to the restroom door. "Minister Kang, the mayor is in a meeting, you'll have to wait here for a while!"
"Okay!" Minister Kang stood obediently at the restroom door, like a sanitation worker, hands clasped in front of him, posture perfectly standard.
"Don't wander around, or the mayor might not see you when he comes out," Li Yuan said, pointing to the spot where Kang was standing.
"Okay! I'll wait right here!"
"Oh, look, there isn't even a chair here! How remiss of me, I'll have someone bring one over later!" Li Yuan said with a smile.
"It's alright, I'll just stand!" Kang Dinghuang's expression was relaxed.
"Okay." Li Yuan nodded and walked into the small conference room.
Outside the door, Kang Dinghuang stood erect at the restroom entrance, looking at the bustling staff around him, unconsciously loosening his collar.
He stood there for over seven hours, until late at night. The door to the small conference room didn't open, and Kang Dinghuang was practically exhausted, his legs numb, his feet almost without sensation.
Inside the room.
Li Ming Sheng said to Director Liu, "If the negotiations with Zhao Wei Hu go well, and if necessary, you can secretly take a trip to Sinaloa to contact the government troops there. This can be seen as adding leverage to the Chi Army."
"No problem," Director Liu nodded.
Li Ming Sheng, feeling a chill, patted his stomach and said, "I'm hungry. Li Yuan, get some late-night snacks."
Li Yuan came over at the right moment and asked, bending down, "Still getting Sichuan takeout?"
"Yes, isn't that good?" Li Ming Sheng asked, looking up. "What? You don't want any?"
Li Yuan scratched his head and glanced at the staff outside the glass window, forcing himself to say, "Eating Sichuan takeout every day is causing constipation for many people... let's change it up today and eat something better."
Li Ming Sheng's simple and unadorned lifestyle wasn't something he deliberately put on. In his position, even with a normal salary, he could live very comfortably, but his habits were such that he didn't have high demands for food or material possessions.
A small spoonful of chopped pepper sauce was enough for him to eat a bowl of rice. When he was tired, he would rest in the office bedroom. He had hardly any extravagant hobbies.
Li Ming Sheng's only desire was for work, and this was something that could be interpreted in different ways. Whether you thought he wanted to get things done or whether you thought he was greedy for power, he had always been striving for it.
"Hehe!" Li Ming Sheng smiled at Li Yuan's words. "You're right, I forgot we've been eating Sichuan food all week. Alright, I'll treat everyone today. Find a good restaurant and have them send over a lot of dishes to improve everyone's meals."
"Okay!" Li Yuan nodded. "I'll arrange it right away."
"That's right, in the future, you don't have to arrange meals for everyone according to my habits," Li Ming Sheng reminded him specifically. "You can order separately."
"Understood." Li Yuan responded, then said at the appropriate moment, "Mayor, Kang Dinghuang has been standing outside for the better part of a day."
Hearing the name, undisguised disgust filled Li Ming Sheng's eyes. He pulled a long face and pondered for a moment. "Get him a bed in the restroom and let him keep waiting!"
"Hehe!" Director Liu smiled. "Letting him wait isn't a problem, but wasting so much manpower and resources on a Qing Yi Bureau isn't worth it! What do you say, Mayor?"
Li Ming Sheng folded his arms and remained silent for a few seconds before ordering, "Call him in."
Half a minute later, Kang Dinghuang vigorously massaged his thigh muscles, feeling that his feet had recovered a little. He steeled himself and walked into the small conference room.
Li Ming Sheng ignored him, only talking quietly with Lao Liu.
Kang Dinghuang glanced at him, unconsciously clenched his fists, stepped forward, and softly called out, "Mayor Li, I've caused you trouble."
"Let's discuss the issues with the code worker association in a meeting tomorrow; there are many problems that need to be investigated and dealt with severely," Li Ming Sheng was still talking to Director Liu.
Kang Dinghuang looked at his profile, and after a full half-minute of silence, he suddenly gritted his teeth, knelt down beside the conference table with a thud, and shouted, looking up, "Mayor Li, I was wrong... I overstepped my boundaries, please show mercy and let me off, okay?!"
Li Ming Sheng frowned and picked up his teacup.
"What are you doing?" Director Liu immediately scolded. "This is a government office, don't use those Jianghu tricks! Who's making things difficult for you? Get up now!"
Kang Dinghuang didn't get up, but instead prostrated himself on the ground. "Mayor Li, I was wrong!! I know my own limits, okay?"
Li Ming Sheng put down his teacup, coldly swept his gaze over him, and said lightly, "I'll give you three hours to take your Qing Yi Bureau and get out of Dragon City!!"
Kang Dinghuang looked up and replied with a very respectful attitude, "Thank you, Mayor Li, for sparing my life!"
"Go, go!" Director Liu waved impatiently.
Kang Dinghuang slowly got up and said, bowing, "Thank you!"
After speaking, Kang Dinghuang decisively turned and left.
The staff in the office area watched Kang Dinghuang's retreating figure, and after about ten seconds of silence, someone suddenly cheered, "We're off work!!!"
"Yippee!! I'm free!"
"Get out of here! I'll beat you to death if you come back!"
"......!"
Some cheered, some cursed at Kang Dinghuang. In short, the office area was filled with a joyful atmosphere. This wasn't just Lao Li's victory alone, but the result of multiple departments and countless people working through the night!
Wen Zhan Bo's capture was equivalent to cutting off one of Lao Li's arms!
A thunderous counterattack, using local forces to checkmate Kang Dinghuang, defeating him and driving him out of Dragon City in one round!
It's hard to say who won or lost, because this is the beginning of a major change in Dragon City's future!
Three days later.
An Qi Qi's An Ze City led troops south, officially entering the Dragon City battlefield.
