Chapter 1668: Chapter 1662: That "World

"Watch out!" Brother Shi instinctively shouted. The situation now was a battle between two tigers; inevitably, one must die, although the surviving "tiger" might not necessarily want to kill them. They needed to discern clearly, for the "tiger" that could survive and pose no danger to them was undoubtedly the initial silver-armored corpse. As for the strange soldier, it would be best if he ended up on the losing side for the three of them!

Therefore, upon seeing the initial silver-armored corpse encounter danger, Brother Shi couldn’t help but wish to warn it. But such a battle was not one he could partake in. Just as he opened his mouth, a black beam of light emerged from its head, crashing onto its skull!

The aura of destruction instantly saturated the area, all vitality was utterly suppressed in that moment. Ghost Head observed as the surrounding flowers, grasses, and trees rapidly withered within the second the black beam appeared, turning from lush green to a grayish yellow!

The black beam relentlessly struck the head of the silver-armored corpse. Even though the force wasn’t directed at them, the three could still feel the power contained within the black beam. The silver-armored corpse struggled to resist the power from the black beam, while his resistance was met with further strikes from the beam, causing dust on the ground to rise repeatedly. The three over there were also pushed down by such impacts, unable to stand, clutching their vehicle tightly. The zombies nearby were similarly affected; a few unlucky ones were completely caved into the wall, baring their teeth, struggling even to let out a low growl.

"I... f*ck..."

With their bodies being constantly shoved by the shockwaves, the transport truck they were leaning against also caved in. Fortunately, the two were wearing exoskeleton suits, providing protection, albeit not comfortably. But Ghost Head wasn’t so lucky; half-collapsed on the vehicle, he violently spat out a mouthful of fresh blood, his face paling further!

Fortunately, the King of the Underworld didn’t wish to claim his life at that moment. The duration of the shockwave wasn’t long; soon enough, the silver-armored corpse couldn’t support itself any longer, being directly crushed into the earth by the black beam from above. Then the shockwave ceased, and the three could finally take a breath.

"Damn it... If this keeps up, my life will really end here."

"You can still talk, huh? Looks like you’re doing well," Brother Shi joked upon hearing his voice.

"I’m like Little Qiang now; if you want me dead, it’s not that easy..."

"Alright, get up quickly."

Brother Shi patted the sand off his suit and lifted Ghost Head, then looked towards the silver-armored corpse, wanting to assess its condition. But the silver-armored corpse wasn’t an ordinary zombie; its vitality was at the peak among zombies, making it far from easy to kill. Soon enough, unsurprisingly, the opponent let out a roar, raising its massive head to the sky, spreading its sturdy arms wide. Instantly, thick black fog spilled from its mouth, causing the zombies nearby to instantly weaken upon contact with the mist. And due to the fog obscuring their view, the three couldn’t see what happened next, but the fate of those unfortunate zombie musicians wouldn’t be favorable.

The black fog it spewed spread outward, heading toward the three of them. How could they dare to linger? With Ghost Head on their back, Wu Zhixiong and others sprinted wildly into the distance. Looking back, the black fog that had diffused from the silver-armored corpse’s mouth began to coalesce and soon transformed into a thicker black beam shooting toward the sky!

At that moment, Sanctuary City seemed to be pressed down by an invisible mountain, the air becoming incredibly heavy. The beam shot straight into the sky; it was unclear if it hit the strange soldier - it was best if it did.

"What are you looking at? Hurry up and run!"

Running behind, Brother Shi saw Wu Zhixiong turning back and hastily urged with a shout, hesitant, wondering if they should really take off?

The hesitation stemmed from the strange soldier, who advised them to wait for that guy. Although they didn’t know how strong he was, it was clear he was someone they couldn’t afford to provoke. If he intended to pursue them, it would be effortless!

Therefore, Wu Zhixiong worried whether their actions, if seen by that guy, would provoke him to fury and lead him to directly kill them?

"What if that thing catches up to us?"

"There’s no need to worry about that; staying means death."

"Alright then..." After hearing this, Wu Zhixiong temporarily set aside his concerns, burying his head in running forward. Unbeknownst to them, the strange soldier had long noticed their actions. Brother Shi and the others underestimated how closely he observed them; the moment they began fleeing, his gaze locked onto them.

However, the strange soldier didn’t pursue, not solely because of the corpse tide and the silver-armored corpse blocking his way. His face bore a look of puzzlement, as if witnessing someone perform an unbelievable act beyond comprehension, like someone stepping upward with one foot on the other.

"Why is that..."

He muttered to himself, simplicity in reason perplexed his mind. He lived in a world monochrome with black and red, devoid of flowers, trees, moon, or sunlight. In there, all animate beings were trapped in daily survival through mutual slaughter. They dissected and consumed twisted creatures like themselves to gain power from ingesting the sparkling stones located within and continue their existence.

The ground continuously drained their energy; they grew hungry quickly, but once the stones depleted, they’d age like machines decaying with time, eventually falling down, their stones dug out by weaker entities and eaten to become a new dominant force!

He knew not of his origins, merely awakening one day to ponder his identity and origins. His previous memories were blurred in shades of gray, occasionally punctuated by unfamiliar yet familiar flashes. He only recognized himself as a member of the High Bluff, a tribe formed amongst the increasing ’Eyes’ within the realm.

Every tribe frequently engaged in warfare to secure survival; there were no clear adversaries, as every tribe posed a threat. The world lacked hatred; battles ensued to meet primal needs, devoid of alliances and the concept of ’friends’ - terms unknown to him. Within tribes, one could be consumed by others at any moment, but could also consume others!

But the prerequisite: one must possess the ability to kill the opponent and successfully seize the stone within their body!
