Gentle Sleep Instructor
Chapter 481 Staying Overnight
After what happened, everyone was skeptical about whether Huai Yi was still alive.
This place was clearly different from the world they knew. It was eerily quiet, and Du Feng was the only living person they had seen since leaving the room.
But now, he was dead.
Jiang Cheng raised his head and looked in the direction Du Feng had initially come from. He had only turned back upon seeing them.
Words were useless in this situation. Jiang Cheng started walking in that direction, Lin Wan'er naturally following behind.
The others, though seemingly reluctant, huddled together and followed.
They wouldn't dare go back alone.
Who knew if they would run into the creature that killed Du Feng?
Du Feng's body was left in the elevator, his head stuffed back into his hands by Jiang Cheng.
The only thing he could do was close Du Feng's unseeing eyes.
Before long, his body would vanish from this world like Li Kaifeng's.
Wei Wei looked at Du Feng's body, a strange feeling in her heart. He was the only person she truly knew.
But now he was dead.
Though she had a basic understanding of this world and its strangeness, it wasn't until a familiar person died before her eyes that the terror truly set in.
This time, before Jiang Cheng even got close, a figure appeared at the corner.
It was Huai Yi.
However, they only made eye contact from a distance. Upon seeing Huai Yi, Cao Yang, Yu Yu, and the others didn't react with joy, but rather instinctively took a step back.
They also looked behind themselves.
Searching for an escape route.
The successive blows had blurred the line between reality and illusion for them.
When Huai Yi appeared, they naturally assumed he was a ghost.
"Du Feng is dead," Jiang Cheng said, pointing to the blood on his body. "He died in the elevator. His head came off."
After a moment, Huai Yi walked out.
The atmosphere was strangely awkward on the way back. Perhaps because they had witnessed Du Feng's death firsthand, Wei Wei felt tears welling up in her eyes.
They returned to the second floor.
Room 209.
Strangely, as soon as they closed the door, the world outside became lively.
Footsteps echoed in the hallway, and the faint sound of a woman's voice could be heard from an unknown room.
Raindrops pattered against the windows.
It felt as if the entire hospital had come back to life.
Huai Yi collapsed onto the bed and let out a long sigh.
He was finally... safe.
"Thank you, everyone," Huai Yi said sincerely, standing up to address them. But apart from Jiang Cheng and the nonchalant Lin Wan'er,
the others looked somewhat embarrassed.
They hadn't really wanted to save him.
But thankfully, neither Jiang Cheng nor Lin Wan'er called them out on it.
Everyone was at peace.
After learning that the phone was the problem, Huai Yi went to the bedside table where it was placed. Jiang Cheng had already moved the table, exposing the wires behind it.
A look of frustration appeared on Huai Yi's face.
Despite being so careful, he had still been outmaneuvered.
"Mr. Jiang," Huai Yi said to Jiang Cheng politely, "do you have any ideas about what to do next?"
"First, we need to figure out who the woman in room 624 is," Jiang Cheng said after thinking. "She checked into the hospital over a year ago, and she was pregnant when she died."
"This child..." Jiang Cheng paused and looked at Huai Yi, "who is the father?"
"Is it one of the three dead men, or someone else?"
Huai Yi shook his head after considering it. "I don't think it's that simple." He looked at Jiang Cheng, his lips moving slightly. "I think we're forgetting someone."
"Director Qi," Jiang Cheng said casually, glancing out the window.
Huai Yi nodded.
Hearing this, Cao Yang asked anxiously, "Do you suspect that the child... is Director Qi's and this woman's?"
"That shouldn't be possible," Yu Yu said, also finding it strange. "According to the records, Director Qi wasn't directly responsible for room 624."
"Besides, he was just a new intern at the time."
"Also, if it really was him, then he must have had a good relationship with the woman, right? After the woman became..." Yu Yu clearly wanted to say 'ghost,' but stopped herself. After a moment, she changed her words, "After she became that sort of thing, she wouldn't be harmful to Director Qi, so what... what is he afraid of?"
"If the Zheng the Blind who's in charge of the boiler room could get to the woman, then I think Director Qi could too, and his workplace is close to room 624."
"If he wanted to, he definitely had the opportunity."
"As for your second question," Jiang Cheng said, "the reason Director Qi is afraid of the woman and even wants to kill her must mean he's guilty of something."
Those were the only clues they had. There was no point in discussing it further. Jiang Cheng originally planned to return to room 604 and see if the crazy nurse from room 906 would come again that night.
But it was already completely dark, and after what happened earlier, he thought it was best to be cautious and stay here tonight.
They briefly discussed keeping watch. Huai Yi suggested two shifts, with him and Cao Yang taking the first shift, and Jiang Cheng taking the second.
Jiang Cheng deliberately avoided looking at Lin Wan'er and chose the depressed Wei Wei to join him.
In one day, they had already lost two people.
That didn't include Zheng the Blind, or the unfortunate security guard whose fate was unknown.
Lying on the bed, Jiang Cheng stared at the ceiling, constantly refining his thoughts.
He found this ghost strange. He had once thought he had roughly deduced the woman's experiences, but the new clues kept reminding him that he was still missing something.
No matter how he reasoned, there were always some inexplicable doubts.
Especially the ghost's attitude towards Director Qi.
Judging from Director Qi's actions, he wanted to get rid of the ghost as quickly as possible. Logically, the ghost should feel the same way about him.
But strangely, if the ghost really hated him, then... why had she let him live until now?
The three men had died not long after the murder in room 624, their deaths tragic, their bodies separated.
But why not Director Qi?
Jiang Cheng didn't think the ghost couldn't kill him.
If Director Qi had that ability, he wouldn't have asked them to help him take care of it.
There must be... a secret they didn't know.
