Gentle Sleep Instructor

Chapter 462 Woman

"Is there something you need?" the young nurse asked, opening the door.

"Nothing, just strolling around." Jiang Cheng made himself at home, squeezing in and sitting on a wooden chair, leering at the young nurse. "Just came to see you."

"See me?" The young nurse blinked uncomfortably, then said in a very soft voice, "By the way, which doctor gave the injection earlier? Did Chief Qi think I was too slow? I was really busy just now, not deliberately dragging my feet."

"So many colleagues have taken leave recently, I'm really swamped." She seemed worried about Chief Qi.

"It's okay," Jiang Cheng replied casually, "I'll explain it to Chief Qi for you. We were too hasty, didn't give you advance notice."

Hearing Jiang Cheng being so understanding, the girl's previously furrowed brow gradually smoothed out, and her impression of Jiang Cheng improved considerably.

She hadn't paid attention earlier, her first impression of Jiang Cheng was still from when he was lurking suspiciously in the corridor.

But now that they were close, she suddenly realized the man in front of her was extremely handsome, with curved eyebrows and a lightly upturned mouth, his smile had a kind of approachable, boy-next-door charm.

It made her feel very comfortable.

"How is the patient doing?" the girl asked, "Any better?"

Jiang Cheng thought about Li Kaifeng's final appearance, and after a moment, nodded and said, "She's sleeping peacefully."

"That's good," the girl said, relieved.

"Huh?" Jiang Cheng seemed to notice something extraordinary, grabbing the girl's hand and asking in a slightly reproachful tone, "What happened? So many injuries?"

The girl's hand had some small cuts, but most had already scabbed over.

Being grabbed by a strange man, the girl instinctively wanted to pull away, but Jiang Cheng's strength was clearly much greater than hers, giving her no chance.

"Does it still hurt?" Jiang Cheng asked, frowning at her hand.

"N-no, it doesn't hurt."

"Just started your internship?" Looking at the girl's clumsy manner, Jiang Cheng knew he was probably right.

"Yes," the girl nodded, a little embarrassed, and took out a card-sized laminated paper from her pocket.

It had a small metal clip on the back, just enough to clip onto her lapel.

It was a nurse's name badge.

Jiang Cheng examined it carefully. The girl's name was Zhao Ru, and the position listed was intern nurse.

"I graduated two months ago, this is my first job," the girl said softly, "Chief Qi said that if I perform well during the internship, there's a chance I can stay."

"So..." the girl looked up at Jiang Cheng, a hint of pleading in her eyes.

Jiang Cheng understood, she was worried he would say bad things about her to Chief Qi.

"You're so talented, you'll definitely get to stay," Jiang Cheng encouraged.

Then Jiang Cheng took the initiative to read Zhao Ru's palm, tell her horoscope, and even predicted her recent fortune, saying she was destined for romance.

The two chatted more and more congenially, and Zhao Ru relaxed her initial restraint, and the conversation flowed more freely.

Jiang Cheng said that normal men only have 8 abdominal muscles, but he had developed a 9th one below his 8-pack. Zhao Ru shook her head in disbelief, and Jiang Cheng directly grabbed her hand, saying, "If you don't believe me, feel it."

Just as the two were playfully tugging at each other, Zhao Ru's gaze inadvertently glanced at a cartoon-style clock on the table, ticking away.

Immediately, Zhao Ru became flustered. "Oh no, I'm going to be late!" she quickly stood up.

"What's wrong?" Jiang Cheng asked, looking like he was still enjoying himself.

"I need to give a patient an injection in 906," Zhao Ru immediately turned and walked out, apparently already late.

"I'll go with you," Jiang Cheng didn't want to miss this opportunity to explore the hospital. He hadn't been above the 6th floor yet.

And there were some things he could ask her about.

Zhao Ru hesitated for a moment, but after a few seconds, she nodded with some reluctance. "Then don't make a fuss."

"Don't worry."

After accompanying Zhao Ru to get the medicine, Jiang Cheng offered to help her carry the medical tray, but Zhao Ru said it wouldn't look good if others saw him.

At first, Jiang Cheng was worried Zhao Ru would want to take the elevator, but fortunately she didn't. Instead, she led Jiang Cheng up the stairs.

"Why not take the elevator?" Jiang Cheng asked curiously.

Zhao Ru said softly, "There are only two elevators in the whole hospital, and one of them doesn't work very well. If there's an emergency, it would delay them, and this isn't an emergency for me."

"And..." As if remembering something, Zhao Ru's mouth, which had opened, slowly closed again, and her expression changed.

"If it's not an emergency, don't take the elevator, especially at night," Zhao Ru turned her head and told Jiang Cheng.

Jiang Cheng finally heard what he wanted to hear, so he pretended to be puzzled and asked, "Why?"

Zhao Ru hesitated for a moment, not directly answering the question, but just telling Jiang Cheng to remember it.

Soon, the two of them reached the 6th floor.

From here, they could see the corridor they had walked through earlier. Many of the rooms on both sides of the corridor were locked, making it seem unusually old.

"How strange," Jiang Cheng craned his neck and looked at the corridor. "This is a good location, why are the rooms all locked?"

"I don't know." Zhao Ru seemed to have wondered the same thing. She stood at the corner of the corridor with the tray in her hand for a few more seconds, and then said, "I heard they haven't been used for a long time. The head nurse who trained me has been working here for almost 10 years, and it was like this when she came."

"Yes." Zhao Ru turned around and urged, "Let's hurry."

Arriving on the 9th floor, Zhao Ru went to room 906 with practiced ease.

The door wasn't locked, and it opened with a gentle push.

It was obvious that Zhao Ru hadn't initially planned to let Jiang Cheng come in as well, but Jiang Cheng acted very natural and obedient.

Zhao Ru looked around and, seeing there was no one else in the corridor, acquiesced.

The first thing Zhao Ru did upon entering was to turn on the light.

The layout of room 906 was completely different from the ward they were in.

There was only one bed.

There was no table, no wardrobe, and even the window was mostly covered by thick curtains. There were almost no decorations in the room.

The half-exposed windowsill was empty, without any flowers or plants.

Just being here for a short while was already depressing.

One could imagine that, without the lights on, even on a sunny day, this place would always be filled with an inescapable gloom.

There was a person lying on the bed.

Looking closer, it seemed to be... a woman.

Her hair was already showing signs of graying, probably in her early 50s, or perhaps even older.

The woman's eyes were open, staring straight at the ceiling. If it weren't for the occasional blink, Jiang Cheng would have even thought she was dead.
