Chapter 32 Who's Knocking?

Chapter 19 Choice

The qipao woman couldn't sit still any longer. She stood up and walked towards the door.

"Qipao-jie," the pajama woman looked terrified, utterly unwilling to be left alone in the room. "Where are you going?"

She immediately jumped out of bed, not even bothering to put on shoes, and stood barefoot on the cold cement floor, gazing at her with pitiful eyes.

"I'm going to ask the others if they've noticed anything unusual," she said, feigning comfort to the pajama woman. "Don't worry, I'll be right back after I've asked around."

The pajama woman seemed equally afraid of the silent and dimly lit corridor, and after a moment's thought, she said, "Then please hurry back, Qipao-jie, I'm scared to be alone."

"Okay, I promise."

The qipao woman took a deep breath and slowly opened the door, leaving only a tiny crack.

The corridor was very quiet. If she didn't know that there were people in the nearby rooms, she would have thought that she and the pajama woman were the only ones there.

Finding nothing amiss, she stepped out of the room, then quickly closed the door behind her.

That's right, she had no intention of returning at all.

Not only that, but she also left a small crack in the door of 407.

Firstly, she could immediately retreat if she encountered danger.

Secondly, even if she found safety in another room, the 407 room, with its door ajar, would undoubtedly be the best target for the ghost to attack.

She had now figured it out; her target was room 404.

The people in room 405 had already heard the strange scraping sound. Whatever that sound represented, she wasn't willing to take the risk.

Especially since the two guys inside didn't look like good people.

The qipao woman was worldly and had long passed the age of judging people by their appearance, so the suit-wearing man's insincere act wouldn't work on her.

There were good people in nightmares, but they just died a little faster and more miserably.

And the reason for abandoning room 406 was that there were too many newcomers inside.

Too many newcomers meant too many uncertain factors, and one mistake could bring disaster to her who was so close.

She didn't like newcomers, just like most veterans.

But she had a better opinion of Jiang Cheng and the fatty, especially Jiang Cheng.

He looked a bit dull and somewhat clueless.

To be honest, she couldn't quite understand this man either.

She had seen her fair share of fools and simpletons in nightmares, but it was rare to see someone like Jiang Cheng living so comfortably, especially since he wasn't a newbie.

Several nightmare missions had taught her one thing: this place was full of hidden dragons and crouching tigers, and there were many who pretended to be pigs to eat tigers.

The distance between the two rooms wasn't far, but she took each step with caution, as if afraid that making too much noise would disturb something sleeping in the darkness.

She remained vigilant the whole way, her peripheral vision never relaxing.

Closer.

Even closer.

She quietly stared at the door not far away, wondering what reason to use to trick them into opening the door and letting her stay for the night.

The people inside weren't stupid, so she couldn't tell them that the person in her room had heard scraping sounds; otherwise, who would open the door for her?

She stopped and thought nervously.

Hmm? She suddenly paused, already deep into the night, and the lights in the corridor had long been turned off. How was she able to see things so clearly?

She turned her head and looked around, quickly finding the source of the light.

It was coming from a door not far ahead, a door left ajar, with a sliver of light shining through the crack.

Her pupils trembled slightly, then her gaze moved up little by little until she saw the number on the door.

407.

407!!

She shuddered violently, as if an ice bomb had exploded in her heart.

How could it be 407?

Her own room?

She had just come out of 407, and... she quickly looked back, everything behind her was shrouded in darkness, as if covered by an insurmountable fog.

The 407 room she had just left had disappeared...

Sure enough!

The people who didn't hear the scraping sound were the ghost's target!

The ghost was going to attack her...

The excessive fear seemed to stimulate the qipao woman's desire to survive tenfold. She knew that it wasn't the last moment yet, and she still had a chance.

If she handled it properly, she had a chance to survive.

There were few situations in nightmares where death was inevitable.

Everything was fair here.

The most urgent task was to determine whether it was the real 407 room, or more precisely, whether it was the dinosaur-pajama woman or a ghost waiting for her inside.

The ghost's abilities couldn't be explained by science, or even basic logic.

So the 407 in front of her was very likely the real 407 room.

And her only chance of survival.

She decided to take a gamble.

Perhaps the ghost wanted her to think that it wasn't the real 407 room, thus missing her chance to survive.

Having figured this out, she immediately ran towards 407. As she moved, the area behind her that had been illuminated by the light was swallowed by darkness.

As if it had never existed.

"Dong, dong, dong!"

She knocked on the door of 407, but didn't immediately push it open.

"Who...?" A terrified female voice came from inside, "Who's knocking?"

It was the dinosaur-pajama woman's voice, sounding very real.

Full of fear, unease, as if she was about to die of fright in the next second.

"It's me!" the qipao woman answered as quickly as possible, "Open the door!"

After saying these words, she quickly glanced back. The darkness behind her was getting closer and closer, and it wouldn't be long before it reached her.

And then... she gritted her teeth, and then there should be no then.

If she was lucky, the next day everyone would find a relatively intact body somewhere.

Her.

"Hurry up!" she started pounding on the door, "Open the door for me!"

The dinosaur-pajama woman inside seemed to be frightened by this attitude and actually started crying, vaguely saying who she was, whether she was a ghost, while begging her not to kill her.

She was as pitiful as could be.

The qipao woman outside could even hear the creaking of the bed frame caused by the pajama woman's trembling as she cried.

The qipao woman said to the inside, "It's really me, I'm the qipao-jie who just left. Please believe me, next..." she paused, "I'm going to come in now."

"Wuwuwu..."

Inside was still crying, a cry that was trying to be suppressed. She could imagine the helpless expression on the pajama woman's face inside.

Too real, so real that it didn't seem fake.

So the qipao woman outside, while talking, slowly backed away, and finally turned around and ran.

Strangely, the moment she ran away, the crying inside suddenly disappeared.

The sliver of light left by the ajar door also disappeared.

What replaced it was a "thump thump thump" sound, as if something was crawling out of the door disguised as 407 on all fours.

It wouldn't be the dinosaur-pajama woman.

The act was very convincing, but the qipao woman still found a flaw. The pajama woman, disguised by the ghost, said amid her sobs, "The door isn't closed, so you can't come in. Are you a ghost?"

The door was closed by the qipao woman herself, how could the pajama woman know that?
