Gentle Sleep Instructor

Chapter 134 The Qian Family

She was pushed away by a gentle force and stumbled out of that world.

Her mind was blank then, as if swayed by a strange thought.

The moment she opened the door and stepped inside, she suddenly woke up. Looking back, she saw Han Jingnian held in mid-air, his body pierced by a ghost.

Each copy had its own characteristics. This ghost would choose the moment they turned around to attack, so... only one of the two could escape to the door alive, and then leave.

The light and shadow shifted before her eyes, and she was back at their campsite on the hillside, but now the vast camp was deserted, with only her remaining.

Han Jingnian was dead...

Everyone... was dead, except for herself.

"Clatter—"

Lost in her memories, she wandered aimlessly until she tripped over something hard and made a clanging sound.

As if waking from a dream, she looked down and realized that they were some charred bricks.

The bricks were scattered on the ground in no particular order, with the remains of a wall foundation on one side, suggesting that this was once a wall that had collapsed in a fire.

Staring at the black bricks, a strange feeling suddenly rose in Yu Man's heart. She slowly squatted down and moved the still-hot bricks away, revealing what appeared to be several wooden planks underneath.

Wiping away the ashes on the planks, three golden characters were revealed: Qian Jianguo.

"Are these the spirit tablets of the Qian family?"

Pei Qian arrived first, staring strangely at the wooden plank in Yu Man's hand.

Zhou Rong bent down and picked up the other two wooden planks, wiping away the ashes to reveal the names Qian Jianshe and Qian Jianxiu respectively.

They were indeed the spirit tablets of the Qian family.

Moreover, judging from the "Jian" character in their names, these three should be of the same generation in the Qian family.

Chen Xiaomeng shifted her gaze from the spirit tablets and looked around. The fire last night was fierce, burning almost everything, yet these three spirit tablets remained, which was clearly abnormal.

"Ah... ah!!"

A sudden scream interrupted Chen Xiaomeng's thoughts. Almost instinctively, she immediately lowered her body and reached for her waist.

Jiang Cheng's pupils shrank slightly.

The scream came from Li Lu, who pointed at Yu Man with a pale face, her pupils trembling, "Your hand... Miss Yu, your hand...!"

Blood oozed continuously from between Yu Man's fingers as she clutched the spirit tablet.

Turning the spirit tablet over, the others were horrified to find a bright red handprint imprinted on the back of the tablet, the five fingers distinct, the blood looking freshly applied, with blood droplets still rolling down.

"It seems that Zhao Xiangmei set this fire," Pei Qian stroked his beard, boldly hypothesizing, "The purpose is to attract us here and then find these three Qian family spirit tablets."

"Could it be that these three members of the Qian family did something to her in the past?" Li Lu asked softly.

"Possibly."

"But no matter what they did in the past, they are already dead," Li Lu looked puzzled as she stared at the three spirit tablets, her expression unnatural. "Even in death, she is unwilling to let them go?"

"Perhaps they were involved in a certain matter," Chen Xiaomeng said casually, "Such as a buried truth. Perhaps the truth of the matter is not what we have heard."

With limited clues, everyone knew that there would be no result even if they argued, so Pei Qian suggested that they put away the spirit tablets first and then make further plans.

"Okay!" Jiang Cheng was the first to express his support, then turned to Yu Man and winked fiercely, saying without hesitation, "Hurry up and give the spirit tablets to Old Mr. Pei. He's old and can use these things."

Pei Qian's body trembled.

On their way back, they encountered the village chief and his entourage. The village chief's face was very ugly, as if the house that had burned down last night was his own.

"Experts!" Seeing Jiang Cheng and the others, the village chief's eyes lit up. "We just went to the courtyard to find you, but we didn't expect you to be here."

"We saw the Qian family ancestral hall on fire last night, so we thought we'd come over and take a look," Zhou Rong said calmly, "Thinking we might find some clues."

"What clues could there be here?" The village chief paused and asked.

"Hehe, that's hard to say," Jiang Cheng strode forward, looking mysterious. He stretched his neck, lowered his voice, and asked, "Do you know what happened to the fire last night?"

The village chief was afraid of him from the bottom of his heart. He didn't know why, but he felt uncomfortable all over when he saw him. After a long while, he pursed his lips and said, "What... what happened?"

Jiang Cheng smiled slightly and mouthed something to him.

After seeing Jiang Cheng's mouth shape clearly, the village chief exploded, "Zhao Xiangmei?!"

"That's right!" Jiang Cheng's face was full of expressions implying the village chief was great and acting surprised.

The village chief couldn't catch his breath and almost fainted, but fortunately, the strong man behind him was quick-witted and helped him up.

Seeing that the scene was about to get out of control, Pei Qian hurriedly took out the three spirit tablets and interrupted, "Village Chief Liu, do you recognize the people on these?"

Qian Jianguo, Qian Jianshe, Qian Jianxiu...

After a lot of tossing and turning, the village chief's eyes were finally able to focus again. He looked at the spirit tablets, his voice weakening, "These are all children of the old Village Chief Qian. Qian Jianguo and Qian Jianshe are the old village chief's sons, and Qian Jianxiu is his youngest daughter."

"Were they all killed by Zhao Xiangmei?"

"The brothers Qian Jianguo and Qian Jianshe were," the village chief gasped for a few breaths and continued after a few seconds, "Qian Jianxiu wasn't. She died when she was very young, supposedly from smallpox."

Zhou Rong thought for a while and suddenly asked, "How many children did the old Village Chief Qian have in total?"

"Four."

"Then the remaining one..."

"That's the eldest son, Qian Jianye. He's also dead," the village chief licked his chapped lips, his eyes dimming as he sighed, "He was also killed by Zhao Xiangmei. All the Qian family members of the 'Jian' generation are dead."

Everyone was not interested in the life and death of the Qian family members. What they were interested in was why only three spirit tablets were left behind when the Qian family ancestral hall was destroyed.

Moreover, the spirit tablet of Qian Jianye, the eldest of the "Jian" generation, was also missing.

The village chief and his men didn't delay too long and rushed towards the Qian family ancestral hall with people and fire-fighting equipment. They had to eliminate the fire and prevent a forest fire.

At the time of parting, the village chief seemed to suddenly remember something and said apologetically to everyone, "It was already dark when we went back last night, so we didn't arrange for anyone to bring you dinner." He paused, looking worried, "Experts, please don't mind!"

Hearing this, Li Lu's body shook violently, and then she ran to the nearby bushes, bent over, and began to retch.

The village chief and his men stared at Li Lu in confusion. She was fine just now, so why suddenly...? But then, as if they immediately realized something, they looked at the men in the group with a subtle gaze.
