Gentle Sleep Instructor
Chapter 823 Rainy Night
The group stopped in front of a desk.
The desk was messy, with papers and pens scattered on the floor. A red handbag lay beside the chair.
It felt as if the desk's owner had left in a hurry.
"This desk is Wang Jie's station," Section Chief Zhang said in a hoarse voice. "Judging from the scene, she was probably working when she discovered the killer. She then frantically fled along this route, but the killer caught up with her at the emergency exit and killed her with a single blow."
Considering the wounds on the body and its state, Jiang Cheng believed Section Chief Zhang's assessment.
The body was face down on the floor. The only fatal wound was the gash that ran from the right shoulder to the lower left abdomen.
Clearly, someone had caught up from behind and struck her down with an axe.
Wu Bin looked at the overturned chair and the kicked-over trash can, adding, "We found some minor abrasions on Wang Jie's body. The wounds are fresh and should have been sustained during the escape, but..." His tone suddenly became hesitant.
"Captain Wu, you can speak freely," Xia Qiang said sincerely, looking into Wu Bin's eyes.
After a moment, Wu Bin took a breath and said in a low voice, "But we didn't find any traces left by the killer at the scene."
The ever-meticulous Section Chief Zhang also spoke up at this moment, "Captain Xia, we don't have your abilities. To be honest, judging this case based on my experience, I don't quite understand it."
From the looks of the scene, the case that happened here was exactly as "Wang Jie" described, but the deceased was Li Mengyao, who had only recently disappeared.
And even stranger, in this world, Li Mengyao's name had been changed to Wang Jie.
No one knew why, but the strangeness of it was unsettling.
Xia Qiang thought for a moment, recalling that "Wang Jie" had said that after "she" received a call from a colleague and came to the office area, it suddenly started raining heavily outside, accompanied by lightning.
"What time did it rain last night, and when did it stop?" Xia Qiang asked.
It was a simple question, but Wu Bin and Section Chief Zhang's expressions became strange. Finally, Wu Bin politely replied, "Captain Xia, it didn't rain yesterday."
"It didn't rain?"
"No," Wu Bin said. "It hasn't rained here for a week. Are you... mistaken?"
Xia Qiang reacted quickly, rubbing his nose and saying in a tired voice, "I've been too busy lately. I just got back from out of town. I must have been mistaken. It rained in the city I was in before."
Wu Bin said very politely, "The cases you're in charge of must be more difficult than anything we handle. It must be hard to travel back and forth."
"Not at all," Xia Qiang waved his hand and said, "Everyone has their own expertise, and we all have the same goal. We're just doing our part."
After examining the scene, everyone left. Xia Qiang, Wu Bin, and Section Chief Zhang exchanged contact information, using the consulting company's phone number.
Probably to take care of Yuan Xiaotian's feelings, Xia Qiang didn't tell them what he had seen until they returned to the company office.
To everyone's surprise, Yuan Xiaotian accepted the reality very quickly. It was clear that he was in pain, but he suppressed his emotions.
Gu</span>"Mr. Jiang, what did you find on the body?" Xia Qiang asked Jiang Cheng, looking at him.
Jiang Cheng pulled out the name tag from his pocket.
Upon seeing the name tag, Zhou Tong's expression changed slightly, and she immediately recognized it. "This is Sister Mengyao's name tag. The last three digits are 857. I remember it very clearly."
"That's right," Jiang Cheng nodded. "This name tag belongs to Li Mengyao. And there's one thing you haven't thought about: why was Li Mengyao's clothes changed, but this name tag was left behind?"
"The woman who brought us here also mentioned that we have to wear name tags when serving customers," Xia Qiang said, staring at the bloody name tag in Jiang Cheng's hand.
Huai Yi interjected, "So... name tags are something special in this mission, like props?"
"I agree with everything you've said, but... what is this name tag for?" Fatty asked in confusion. "It can't be that wearing the name tag will..." He paused, not daring to finish the sentence.
After all, Li Mengyao's death was too strange, and no one knew what the thing that killed her was, what that terrifying weapon was.
"It shouldn't be," Jiang Cheng said, looking at Fatty. "Don't scare yourself."
"And the rain last night," Xia Qiang suddenly said. His brows were slightly furrowed, and he looked very serious. "Wang Jie's previous descriptions have all come true to some extent, but not the rain. That's very abnormal."
"And before Wang Jie entered Yourun Building, it wasn't raining yet, but after she got off the elevator and entered the office area, it suddenly started raining heavily outside. In her words..." Xia Qiang paused, looked at everyone, and said meaningfully, "The rain obscured everything, and you couldn't even see the scenery outside the glass windows."
"It's like entering another world," Jiang Cheng said after thinking.
"Exactly!" Xia Qiang nodded emphatically. "I think there's something very wrong with this rain."
The afternoon passed quickly, and night fell faster than expected. After a brief discussion, everyone decided not to return to the apartment that night.
Everyone would squeeze into the office and spend the night there.
Hearing this, a hint of undisguised disappointment flashed across Jiang Cheng's face.
After Fatty noticed, he nudged him gently with his elbow. After Jiang Cheng looked at him, he deliberately winked and said, "Doctor, are you thinking about something inappropriate?"
Hearing this, Jiang Cheng glared and said righteously, "Nonsense, I'm against gambling and drugs!"
Xia Qiang and the others looked at Jiang Cheng, their faces full of confusion and hesitation, but Huai Yi remained calm. He was used to it.
They had just found half a box of instant noodles in a large drawer, which they used to fill their stomachs.
A moment later, Xia Qiang put down the instant noodle bucket, not even a drop of soup left, and glanced at the dark outside the window, a look of vigilance on his face.
It was just past 10 o'clock, and most people had left work. There was hardly any sound in the office building, and the corridor was very quiet.
"Everyone has seen the situation here," Xia Qiang said, looking at everyone. "I suggest we have people stay up tonight to keep watch, in shifts of two people, each shift lasting 3 hours. This will ensure that everyone has enough rest."
The energy consumption in the mission was much faster than in the normal world. Even after encountering something like today, some people were still dozing off even though it was only slightly late.
