Chapter 1550 Agreement

Chapter 70 The World Has Gone Mad

Seeing Jiangcheng arrive, Fatty, who had just woken up, greeted him enthusiastically, but Jiangcheng ignored him completely and pushed open the door.

The expected scene of carnage and flying flesh did not appear. The scene was…well…surprisingly peaceful.

Su Xiaoxiao was sitting up, leaning against the pillows propped up behind her. She held a half-eaten pear in her hand. Chen Ran was sitting on a chair beside her bed. The morning sun streamed in through the window, creating a scene that was, for a moment, almost beautiful.

Three seconds later, Jiangcheng slammed the door shut. He returned to the corridor and shook his head violently, then slapped his face a few times to make sure he was awake before pushing the door open again.

The result was the same: morning light, pure white sheets, a half-eaten pear, and a pair of warm, peaceful people. Jiangcheng nearly cracked.

"Doctor, it's true," Fatty whispered, trying to comfort him. "The two of them were chatting away, and they kicked brother Su An out because they thought he was in the way. Can't you see he's sulking?"

Perhaps provoked by Fatty's words, Su An's expression became even more aggrieved. Seeing a hulking man, two and a half meters tall, acting aggrieved was too much for Jiangcheng!

To Jiangcheng's disbelief, Chen Ran actually stood up and nodded at Jiangcheng with a smile. "Ling, long time no see. Thank you for your hard work."

Jiangcheng: "??! I'm about to crack!"

Seeing Jiangcheng's arrival, Chen Ran turned to put away the short knife on the table. There were pear peelings on the knife. Combining that with the cleanly peeled pear in Su Xiaoxiao's hand, Jiangcheng felt that either he was going crazy, or the world was going crazy. Chen Ran was actually sitting here, peeling pears for Su Xiaoxiao!

Wasn't he a couple with Number 7?

Was this marital infidelity?

Or was it just a pure honey trap? Was this all Lin Wan'er's plan, sacrificing Chen Ran to drag Su Xiaoxiao and Su An, this sister and brother duo, down with them?

A flurry of speculations flooded his mind. As long as Jiangcheng could remember, he had never been this frantic. But Chen Ran was still smiling at him. "Excuse me, I have a mission. You guys chat. Oh, and Miss Su's health is just a little better, so don't chat with her for too long. She needs rest."

After delivering his thoughtful instructions, Chen Ran left gracefully, leaving Jiangcheng standing alone, a mess. Chen Ran even greeted Fatty warmly, his smile sincere. Even when facing Su An, who was sulking and not giving him a pleasant look, Chen Ran nodded with a smile.

It wasn't that Jiangcheng hadn't suspected this Chen Ran was a fake, but with Wu You here, what kind of disguise could fool him?

So…Chen Ran was real!

In the short time he hadn't seen him, he had really changed…

Su An glared resentfully at Su Xiaoxiao on the hospital bed, refusing to enter the room as if he was sulking. Fatty had to stay outside the room to comfort him, leaving only Jiangcheng and Su Xiaoxiao inside.

The atmosphere was indescribably awkward, as if he had stumbled upon an unspeakable secret between her and Chen Ran.

Su Xiaoxiao took another bite of the pear, her expression unchanged. "Sit down. I need to thank you for my brother's matter."

Sensing that Su Xiaoxiao's tone wasn't accusatory, Jiangcheng relaxed and walked over to sit down. After a moment, Jiangcheng suddenly noticed that Su Xiaoxiao's aura had changed. Yesterday, Su Xiaoxiao was covered in an aura of despair, a despair etched into her heart. But today, like the sunshine pouring in, the despair had been dispelled, and Su Xiaoxiao had completely "come alive."

But what truly shocked Jiangcheng was what Su Xiaoxiao said next—

"I'll help you deal with the Night Watchmen."

Putting down the pear in her hand, Su Xiaoxiao looked at Jiangcheng very seriously, the determination in her eyes leaving Jiangcheng with no doubt about the truth of her words.

"Wh…why?"

"I promised him," Su Xiaoxiao replied calmly.

"Not that. I want to know why you would promise him." Jiangcheng couldn't understand. Su Xiaoxiao was resisting yesterday. What exactly had happened?

Su Xiaoxiao reached out and slowly pulled down her collar. The dark green scales that had been hidden on her shoulder had disappeared. "He saved me and gave me the chance to live with my brother, so I promised him I would help you deal with the Night Watchmen, but only this once," Su Xiaoxiao emphasized.

Jiangcheng had seen firsthand how severe Su Xiaoxiao's corruption had been. He never expected that such a degree of corruption could be reversed. After a moment, Jiangcheng took a deep breath and looked up at Su Xiaoxiao very seriously. "Can you tell me, how exactly did he do it?" He knew this wasn't so simple, but he needed to know what price Chen Ran had paid for it.

Su Xiaoxiao made a simple square gesture on the sheet. "It's a red contract. He gave it to me. That thing can resist corruption and prolong life."

"Also, he apologized to me for what happened before," Su Xiaoxiao said.

Su Xiaoxiao's explanation was simple and direct, but this time it was Jiangcheng's turn to be silent. He could roughly guess why Chen Ran had changed so much.

It was because of Gong Zhe.

Gong Zhe died on the bus, in the hands of the old chairman. And Chen Ran was uniting all the forces he could to fight the old chairman and the Night Watchmen to the death, even if it meant lowering his stance.

If Chen Ran had once been a sharp, exposed sword, then he now understood how to sheathe the sword and conceal its edge. But that didn't mean he would always conceal it. When the sword was drawn at the final moment, it would surely unleash terrifying power.

"Where did that red contract come from? Did he say?" Jiangcheng couldn't help but ask. Lin Wan'er hadn't mentioned this, so this treasure shouldn't have come from Lin Wan'er.

"He said someone left it to him. That person was going to a very dangerous place, and he knew he would die there," Su Xiaoxiao said.

The atmosphere began to turn heavy. After a long silence, Jiangcheng slowly opened his mouth. "Did he say what that person was to him?"

Su Xiaoxiao shook her head. "I asked, but he didn't say. But to leave such a thing behind instead of carrying it with him, it proves that person must have loved him very much."

"If I had something like that, I would only leave it to my brother. I would kill anyone else who dared to think about it," Su Xiaoxiao said, her voice calm but resolute.

"That person was killed by the Night Watchmen, right?" Su Xiaoxiao suddenly looked at Jiangcheng.

"Yes," Jiangcheng replied.

Su Xiaoxiao nodded expressionlessly. "I thought so. I could tell from that guy's eyes. He was willing to give it up even though he was being corrupted like that…" She paused, then sighed. "He's planning to drag his enemies down to hell with him."
