“Stop with the nonsense,” Lu Mingming urged anxiously. “Is there any way to help me find Aunt Shi?”
She had no intention of hiding her identity, holding the bone whistle conspicuously in her hand, appearing clearly within the city limits of Sin City, dressed in the coarse linen clothes she first wore at the auction.
“Simple, I’ll take you,” Lu Yan offered his hand gallantly. “I’ll lead you, and the spatial link will be even tighter.”
Hearing his words, Lu Mingming placed her hand in his with relief. Lu Yan’s palm was warm, and he held her hand tightly as she took it, exerting a slight force to easily pull Lu Mingming into his embrace, an intimate and ambiguous posture.

A scent of high mountain snow pine mixed with an indescribable fox aroma drifted to Lu Mingming’s nose. She quickly pushed him away, creating a safe distance.
Lu Yan stopped teasing. “We’ll depart immediately.” He composed himself and raised his free hand, easily splitting a spatial rift in the air. “Next time you want to find me, you can activate your mental power and do this, just like I did. This is because I have a ring that’s paired with the bone whistle, which can form a spatial link.”
“Okay, I understand. We can discuss the rest later.” Lu Yan chuckled, seeing the anxious expression on Lu Mingming’s face, and silently withdrew his explanation. It seemed she was truly worried about those people in the slums.
“Then we’ll talk about it when we have time.” Lu Yan sighed helplessly and stepped into the spatial rift with Lu Mingming.

“I hope it’s not too late…” Lu Mingming murmured. She really wanted to know how Aunt Shi was doing, and what about those little cubs. After all, without systematic training, there was still a gap compared to soldiers.
Lu Mingming was uneasy, her gaze drifting to Lu Yan’s chin, which had a hint of stubble. It seemed he had been exhausted these past few days…
With a flash of white light, Lu Mingming followed his steps and, without realizing when, exited the spatial rift and arrived directly above the city walls of the City of Eternal Night. The twinkling fluorescent lights were all extinguished, making them appear like plain, dusty decorations, altering the city’s greatest characteristic and diminishing its former glory.
Fortunately, none of the soldiers responsible for patrols were present, and no enforcement teams apprehended these two suddenly appearing individuals. Lu Yan maintained his usual stern demeanor, raising his chin to indicate, “Look over there.”
Faint fighting sounds drifted from afar. Lu Mingming followed the sound, her gaze landing on an open, unobstructed space where figures slightly larger than ants were attacking each other with various weapons and mental powers. Most were low-ranking soldiers from the City of Eternal Night and adults from the slums participating in their first war. Meanwhile, the space pirates, clever enough to take advantage of trade exchanges, were scattered throughout the area. Some hid quietly on nearby rooftops, waiting for an opportunity to scavenge, while many others used this chance to sneak into empty rooms for widespread looting to make a quick fortune. Few people, like Lu Mingming, were concerned about the safety of others. The air was filled with the smell of blood, a testament to the brutality of war.
To her slight surprise, the side temporarily holding the advantage on the battlefield was the slums. In reality, the people of the slums, long accustomed to various hardships and rigorous training, had developed firm bodies and well-developed muscles. Compared to those who had endured prolonged aristocratic treatment, resulting in three out of every five individuals having a beer belly, they adapted to the battlefield much faster.
“The situation is better than I expected,” Lu Mingming breathed a sigh of relief.
“Do you want to get closer to see? It’s not clear from here,” Lu Yan asked. Lu Mingming nodded.

Lu Yan took Lu Mingming’s hand and, to the astonishment of those watching, leaped nimbly across the city walls, bringing Lu Mingming closer in a few movements, allowing for a more direct observation of the battlefield.
The two sides engaged in brief clashes. In a particularly misty and eerie area, Aunt Shi and a cloaked man traded attacks, but the thick fog made it impossible to ascertain their true circumstances.
“I need to go down,” Lu Mingming suddenly released his hand, looking for a way to descend the city wall. Lu Yan’s hand suddenly felt empty as he withdrew his hand, rubbing the lingering warmth on his side. He replied, “I can’t let you go down there to risk yourself.”
At that very moment, a spatial rift inexplicably opened beside Lu Mingming—it was Orannal, bringing Wang Tianhai. Wang Tianhai’s expression showed weakness, and a silver-white light gradually dissipated from his hand.
“So it’s a space manipulator,” Lu Yan mused, staring at Wang Tianhai’s palm thoughtfully.

“Why did you bring Mingming?” Orannal asked with a hint of displeasure, mostly directed at Lu Yan’s unsolicited interference.
Now, Lu Mingming confirmed that Lu Yan and Orannal were the two mysterious forces Aunt Shi had mentioned. How had they ended up together… Lu Mingming couldn’t figure it out. Surely, the Alliance officials and the space pirate bigwigs wouldn’t have a purely cooperative friendship…
Lu Mingming tentatively reached out to greet Wang Tianhai. Wang Tianhai reflexively smiled in response, then froze. When did I get to know Lu Mingming? Facing Orannal, Lu Mingming nodded very familiarly, which caused him to stand there stunned, his rapidly beating heart suddenly heavy as if filled with lead.
Did I do something wrong? Orannal felt wronged but said nothing, gazing deeply at Lu Mingming’s face, unwilling to look away. Lu Mingming, unsure how to respond, selectively avoided his gaze and directed her attention to the battlefield.
On the fighting grounds, a small corpse covered in blood suddenly moved, subtly lifting its head—it was that little boy! Lu Mingming covered her mouth, waiting nervously. What was he going to do? Beside him were the people from the slums, pushed to their limits. The little boy pulled out a small knife hidden in his boot, quickly got up, and with a ferocious expression, stabbed the soldier in the waist who had his back to him.
Blood seeped from the small knife, dripping onto the ground. The little boy’s trembling hand retreated step by step.
“Damn it, who’s ambushing me?” The soldier cried out in pain, then recovered, his tone a mixture of surprise and anger.
A wave of mental power struck the little boy, flinging him four or five meters away before he crashed heavily to the ground. The little boy’s tattered clothes were torn in many places, and his elbows and knees were bloody and bruised. The soldier spat out a mouthful of blood and broken teeth, picked up his spear from the ground, and walked towards the little boy, arrogantly announcing his death sentence.
“I think you little cubs really want to die, and coincidentally, I can grant your wish.”
“No, stop him!” Lu Mingming’s face turned deathly pale as she quickly tugged at Lu Yan’s clothes. Orannal’s expression suddenly turned grim, and he instinctively took Lu Mingming’s other hand. In an instant, the three of them were teleported together to the edge of the battlefield.
Lu Yan softly asked, “Why did you follow me?” Orannal sneered, “Of course, I came to help.”
While the two were "arguing," Lu Mingming gently picked up the semi-conscious little cub, using her mental power to conduct a general preliminary check, to see if there were any internal injuries besides the external wounds. Lu Mingming suddenly recalled the little boy’s cheerful goodbye, saying he would bring back good news for her.
“Who are these two again…?” Even though she didn’t know where they came from, dead people offered the most sense of security. Thinking this, the soldier, filled with killing intent, raised his spear and charged menacingly towards Lu Mingming.
Suddenly—a vine shot through the soldier’s chest, as if alive, desperately absorbing the blood within. The wriggling vine instantly covered the soldier’s entire body, creating several large holes. The vine was like a constantly swallowing throat, the bright red surging beneath its thin plant skin, eventually feeding the mysterious cloaked figure at its end. The soldier’s pupils dilated, and with a thud, he fell to the ground, his breathing ceased.
As a cloud of smoke gradually dispersed, Aunt Shi and the City Lord of Sin City appeared.
