Lu Mingming breathed a sigh of relief, feeling assured.
It was good to be able to spend a million star coins here.
Yi Fu thought of this and sighed, burying his face in the table. "Sister, do you remember anything from your world? I really want to know about the me in another world."
"The me in another world."
Lu Mingming repeated.
"I really don't know."
She said honestly.
Amidst Yi Fu's lament, Knighton said, "My other self erased his memories. Everything is blank now, and all the memories he possesses are false. However, the soul imprint is too strong, occasionally causing minor effects."
He revealed the truth of the matter in a slow, deliberate manner.
Knighton had originally intended to teach Lu Mingming a lesson slowly after she arrived in the new world. Perhaps it was the temptation of food these past few days, or perhaps it was influenced by his other self, but he could no longer muster even the slightest killing intent.
"If Mingming sister goes back, will she be unreachable?"
Yi Fu asked again.
"Theoretically, yes," Knighton answered seriously.
"I probably won't get to eat such good food anymore."
"You brat, do you see me as a chef?"
Lu Mingming said, crossing her arms and feigning annoyance.
"It's fine. If you want to eat it later, I can ask my other self on the opposite side to send the food back. Perhaps there will be a day when we meet again."
"I also really want to see what you all look like when you meet people from another world. It must be very interesting."
Morian stroked his chin, his eyes filled with amusement, echoing Knighton's words.
After a brief discussion, Olannar sat down to make the final summary. "For the next few days, Lu Mingming will continue to work at the research institute. Primarily, ensure her safety and that she is not threatened by people from that side. Everyone else will stay to discuss the plan."
Unknowingly, she had been included in the inner circle of the five-person group and then quietly moved away from the most dangerous position. Lu Mingming returned to her dormitory in a daze, lying down feeling bewildered.
After thinking for a while, she suddenly stood up and began packing her luggage.
This time, she was leaving openly.
The next few days passed peacefully, but beneath the calm surface, turbulent waves were surging.
At night, a police siren blared through the research institute, echoing throughout the entire building. Even the dormitory area, which was quite distant, could hear the sound.
The sounds of employees' noisy chatter and the creaking of metal equipment being moved could be heard from the corridors one after another.
The moment Lu Mingming heard the sound, she snapped awake and got out of bed, holding Hong Yu in her arms.
She had been calculating the estimated time every day, and for several nights recently, she had been too anxious to sleep well. Today, she had finally waited for the surprise attack they had spoken of.
Lu Mingming quickly put on her pre-packed bag and headed for the back door along the route she had previously scouted. This time was different; she had someone's help.
Morian had told her the password for the back door lock and also given her a temporary NFC card.
Lu Mingming, following a familiar path, blended into the back of the research institute. The researchers, in a state of chaos, were being temporarily gathered and sent to the underground safety channel to avoid this sudden attack.
Even if Lu Mingming were not present, no one would have noticed in such a chaotic environment.
In the darkness of the night, she ran to the backyard, panting.
Someone was waiting there, the person they had mentioned who would ensure Lu Mingming's safety.
As before, Lu Mingming instinctively called out, "Knighton!!"
"Who are you calling?"
Olannar turned his head, his expression filled with confusion.
"There shouldn't be anyone named Knighton around, right?"
His face was expressionless, but it gave Lu Mingming a sense of escalating pressure.
"I'm so sorry!!!"
Lu Mingming apologized immediately.
"You don't need to say sorry to me."
Olannar smoothly took Lu Mingming's bag and slung it over his shoulder.
"I'll escort you out. There will be a flying vehicle waiting at the entrance."
"Don't you need to go in and command the battlefield?"
Lu Mingming asked curiously.
"No, it's a trap. If worst comes to worst, we've already found Gudfen's weakness, and this is just a test."
Olannar paused and then added, "Not long after you return, the war may be quickly resolved."
"Why? I don't know the Count's weakness."
Lu Mingming interjected.
Olannar fell silent for a moment, and the other self in his mental sea said, "Don't reveal my identity."
Both of them tacitly stopped the conversation.
They reached the flying vehicle, just one step away from leaving the area.
"You can contact me on your light brain anytime."
Lu Mingming nodded and took the portable spatial bag.
Just as she was about to turn and leave—
Suddenly, Olannar grabbed Lu Mingming's wrist and pulled her back. A laser beam shot past, grazing Lu Mingming's neck and hitting an empty spot nearby.
A scorched pit the size of a fist instantly appeared on the ground. Lu Mingming had not even had time to react, breaking out in a cold sweat.
The first laser attack failed, and another targeting reticle appeared before her eyes.
"Don't get on the flying vehicle. They've ambushed both ends. The vehicle might have already been sabotaged, possibly with bombs."
Olannar spread his arm, shielding Lu Mingming and Hong Yu firmly behind him.
Hong Yu regained its senses amidst the gunfire, its dazed eyes focusing on the furthest sniper.
Olannar's expression darkened as he unleashed a cold mental attack towards all directions.
"Pfft! Pfft! Pfft!"
With a series of piercing sounds, several firearms fell to the ground with dull thuds.
The other snipers, affected by the panic, gradually revealed their figures in the night light.
"Their sniper positions are around here."
After saying this, Olannar agilely killed another sniper hiding at the edge of the corner, giving Lu Mingming a sense of security.
"You go back to the dormitory immediately. I'll cover your retreat."
Lu Mingming looked at the dark, silent night and bit her lip in agreement. "You must protect yourself... and come back to find me safely!"
She knew she would only be a hindrance if she stayed.
As she spoke, Lu Mingming ran towards the direction behind her—a laser line was also targeting her temple.
"Careful!"
Olannar's mental power had just activated, and he was still some distance from Lu Mingming.
Lu Mingming turned her head, her right eye directly meeting a blinding beam.
The next instant, the beam disappeared, and danger immediately loomed.
Lu Mingming's pupils contracted; she was utterly unable to move when faced with true danger.
Am I going to die?
As the laser beam shot out, Hong Yu in her arms suddenly broke free and its small body directly intercepted the beam.
In an instant, the surrounding environment seemed to shatter into pieces, returning to darkness.
Lu Mingming crouched down, covering her head in pain, as countless memories surged into her mind, intertwining with her memories from the parallel world, almost tearing apart her entire mental sea.
A light and ethereal singing gradually sounded from somewhere, gently caressing Lu Mingming's agitated mind, alleviating her inner restlessness and impatience.
She slowly raised her head and suddenly realized she was no longer on the road she was about to escape from.
In this serene sea, Lu Mingming sat by a rock, facing a merman with a beautiful fish tail.
This was the first time Hong Yu revealed its true form in front of Lu Mingming.
Seeing Lu Mingming wake up, he slowly stopped singing. His rose-colored eyes stared at her, and in a flash, he leaped into the sea.
All of Lu Mingming's memories returned to their proper place. She stared intently at Hong Yu's movements, anxiously searching. "Hong Yu?! Are you alright! Answer me quickly!"
Only the full moon in the distance remained on the calm sea surface. Lu Mingming sat alone on the small rock that jutted out in the center of the sea, unable to grasp any clues.
Suddenly, a splash of water sounded from the left. Hong Yu, with wet hair cascading down, water sliding from his delicate, pale skin. His inorganic eyes looked straight at Lu Mingming without emotion, filled with an immeasurable complexity that threatened to drown her.
"Are you alright?!"
Lu Mingming, disregarding the danger, leaned closer to look into his eyes.
"I'm fine."
Although he didn't speak, Hong Yu's voice reached Lu Mingming's ears.
It was the same voice as Knighton's, yet it felt completely different.
Lu Mingming was startled. Hong Yu swam to her legs with its fish tail, "You successfully escaped the trap I set. Leave quickly."
