Chapter 75 Mixing Together
Seeing the situation before him, Duncan, who had been preparing to step forward and declare “the mole is me,” immediately retreated back into the shadows, taking on the role of a bystander watching the drama unfold.
So, he wasn't the only mole in this place—the girl in the black dress had given him a feeling of incongruity from the start. Duncan had initially thought it was simply that her youthful and quiet demeanor clashed with the atmosphere of this cult gathering, but it turned out to be something else entirely.
He noticed the cult leader mentioned two terms: You Sui Hunter, Annihilation Sect.
You Sui Hunter clearly referred to the black skeletal hound the girl had summoned, while Annihilation Sect didn't sound like a civic group that could be properly registered with City Hall. So, the girl wasn't a follower of the Sun God, but from another evil cult?!
How many strange and twisted dark cults were lurking in the shadows of this world?
As Duncan's thoughts raced, the girl who had summoned the You Sui Hunter slightly raised the black chains on her arm. She scanned the gathering with a wary stance, a mocking smile on her lips. "Annihilation Sect… I'm afraid I have little to do with them—unlike you lot who have to be dogs for some evil god to sleep soundly, I only work for myself!"
"Your lies won't deceive anyone. Only the Annihilation Sect knows how to summon the horrors from the You Sui Deep Sea. I advise you to give up, heretic. You stand on the Sun God's territory, and even the magic of the You Sui Hunter cannot protect you!" The leader in the center of the gathering stared intently at Sherry, his voice low and threatening. "Speak, what do you want?! Annihilation and the Sun may not be allies, but they have never been enemies. Why did you disguise yourself and infiltrate our sacred gathering?"
"Just wanted to pry some information from your dim-witted heads—" Sherry raised her lips, and the chains connected to her body suddenly rattled. The unknown metal links seemed to writhe like living things. "And, I said, I'm not from the Annihilation Sect…!"
Before the girl could finish, a series of crackling sounds suddenly echoed from all around. The oil lamps placed throughout the room seemed to be stirred by an unknown force, and they suddenly burst into flames!
The bright flames of the oil lamps instantly illuminated the entire basement as if it were daylight. A small fireball emanated and rose above each lamp, and these fireballs, like tiny suns, began to radiate immense power. The leader in the center of the gathering had unknowingly clenched his Sun Amulet, the sharp flaming spikes on the amulet's edge piercing his palm. Blood seeped into the amulet and burned like oil, causing his entire hand holding the amulet to ignite, echoing the sudden transformation of the oil lamps.
Evidently, the experienced cult priest had simply used those few words to stall for time. While Sherry wasn't paying attention, he had activated some kind of supernatural ability.
"Surrender, heretic," a threatening voice came from beneath the golden mask. "The power of the Sun God has sealed off the entire gathering place. I know the abilities of you Annihilation Sect members. You can borrow magic from the demons you summon and use that magic to harm others. The shadow breath of the You Sui Hunter itself is indeed terrifying—but this place has been sealed. Neither you nor your dog can borrow any power from the You Sui Deep Sea!"
Duncan's fingers twitched slightly in his pocket as he considered whether to offer assistance. Although this appeared to be a dogfight between two groups of cultists, the girl named Sherry might know something, and she seemed to be outnumbered.
Just then, the leader wearing the golden mask extended his hand, which was tightly clutching the burning Sun Emblem, towards Sherry. The voice from beneath the mask sounded low and seductive, as if an invisible force was mixed within it. "Abandon your resistance, convert in the Sun God's domain, and then tell me everything you know. The merciful Sun will forgive your sins… Kneel, young sister… You cannot use magic…"
However, Sherry seemed deaf to the Sun God's priest's threat. She simply turned to look at the burning oil lamps, then at the Sun followers who had drawn short swords, daggers, and even revolvers. Very calmly, she asked, "Maintaining this barrier must be quite strenuous for you, right?"
The Sun God's priest coldly snorted, "Hmph, the power bestowed by my Lord…"
Before he could finish speaking, the girl in the black dress suddenly moved!
Sherry abruptly stepped forward, her right arm burning with black fire suddenly raised. The black iron chains whistled through the air, and the You Sui Hunter at the end of the chain was swung around in a wide arc—the giant hound, several times larger than an ordinary dog, was sent flying in a full circle by a strange force. Then, with a terrifying crash, it slammed into the Sun God's priest's chest!
The sound of bones breaking echoed crisply. The Sun God's priest had been focusing all his energy on maintaining the barrier, so he didn't have time to react at all. He was sent flying by the dog like a broken sack, crashing into the opposite wall with no sound.
Duncan: "…"
He really hadn't expected that.
In the blink of an eye, the sudden turn of events caught all the cultists off guard. The Sun followers were still waiting for their leader's orders when they saw their boss fly out. Immediately after, the sound of chains whistling through the air once again pierced the silence!
Sherry raised her arm again, the black iron chains clattering. A strange force sent the You Sui Hunter flying like a meteor hammer. The giant hound traced a terrifying arc in the air, and with a series of loud crashes, several more cultists were sent flying backward, coughing up blood!
This time, the cultists finally reacted. Ignoring their shock, they all roared and charged towards the girl who was raising the chains once more. Dozens of daggers and swords flew through the air, and their response was Sherry's You Sui Hunter, swung in a full circle, and the girl's angry shout: "Go to hell with your master! Bastard things!"
The giant hound flew through the air, and the cultists all suffered broken bones and were sent flying backward. Sherry wielded her meteor hammer with incredible skill, and for a moment, only the sight of flying chains, the howling of the giant hound, and the girl weaving among them could be seen.
Just then, several gunshots suddenly rang out!
The Sun followers with revolvers had finally found an opening. After confirming that a close-quarters battle was impossible against the monstrously strong girl, they didn't hesitate to pull the trigger.
Brass bullets tore through the air, two hitting the chains and sparking bright, brief flashes. The other bullets pierced Sherry's body.
"Ugh…" The girl staggered, the impact and pain of the bullets entering her body causing her to lose her balance. However, the next second, just as the cultists thought the situation had turned around, the sound of chains whistling once again echoed.
"Doggy! Help me block the pain!"
The You Sui Hunter, being swung into the air, let out a chaotic roar. The next moment, it sent a gun-wielding cultist flying away. The cultist's head hit a distant pillar, instantly turning into a mini-version of Alice…
And the meteor dog in the center of the gathering was even more fierce than before!
Duncan silently took two steps back, reducing his presence while waiting for it all to end.
He was mainly afraid of getting blood on himself—he had just put on these new clothes today, and it would be hard to explain to Nina when he got back.
As for that… Amazon… wielding the meteor dog, she shouldn't need his help.
She was doing just fine.
The entire battle didn't actually last too long. The black-dressed girl's meteor hunter had incredible power and speed. This inescapable basement was practically a hunting ground exclusively for her. Duncan stood in the corner, silently reciting the multiplication table for the second time. Before he could finish, the battle was over.
And when all the cultists had been beaten into a pulp, the basement finally fell silent.
Sherry finally stopped. She tightly gripped the chains binding the You Sui Hunter, panting heavily in the center of the room. Suddenly, her eyes caught a figure standing in the corner.
She had finally noticed Duncan, the last "cultist" in the gathering.
Despite being surprised and confused by the strange "cultist's" calm demeanor, Sherry still unhesitatingly led the dog towards the last target.
Her hostility was undisguised.
