Wendy had been observing Su Su’s expression and noticed that she truly didn’t remember anything. She smiled and said, “Miss Gu, you misunderstand. Mr. Yang hired me to take care of you. From now on, I will personally attend to your daily needs and meals, so he can rest assured when he’s not here.”
Gu Su Su looked at Yang Sijie and asked with some confusion, “I’m fine on my own with my daily life and meals, I don’t need someone to take care of me. What do you mean by ‘personally’?”
Yang Sijie walked up to her, put his arm around her, and said, “Wendy studied at the royal butler academy. She can take care of you and assist you in your daily life. I worry that your headaches might act up when I’m not around, so it’s best to have someone by your side at all times.”
Gu Su Su said “oh” again, “But…”
“Miss Gu, I can do everything – cooking, driving, taking care of your daily needs… Mr. Yang said I’ll be with you twenty-four hours a day from now on, and absolutely no mistakes will be made.” Wendy said to her with great respect.
Gu Su Su ignored her and still spoke to Yang Sijie, “I was fine on my own when you weren’t here before, I really don’t need this…”
“Be good, I’m really not at ease if no one is taking care of you. Haven’t you noticed that you’ve been forgetting things more and more lately? Also, I don’t want you to be too tired, having to manage your studies and do cooking and housework yourself. I have to go back to New York in a couple of days, so let Wendy stay and take care of you. I can focus on my work there with peace of mind.” Yang Sijie tried to persuade her.
Wendy immediately added, “I’ve already put my luggage in the guest room, Miss Gu. Although I will be taking care of you personally, if you don’t need me, just treat me as air. I won’t bother you.”
Yang Sijie had already let Wendy move in without consulting her. Could she still say no?
“Whatever. I want to go back to my room to rest.” Gu Su Su pushed Yang Sijie away and walked straight towards her room.
Yang Sijie followed her into the room, then gestured back to Wendy, signaling her not to disturb them, and closed the door.
“Su Su, what’s wrong? If you don’t like Wendy, I can find someone else to take care of you.” Yang Sijie said as he massaged her shoulders.
Gu Su Su sat at the dressing table, took out a tissue, and began to remove her makeup. She said, “No, Wendy seems fine. I’m just a bit tired tonight and want to rest early.”
“Was tonight’s show successful?” Yang Sijie asked with a smile.
“It was alright. Teacher Emma introduced me to quite a few fashion bigwigs, which should be helpful for me to establish my own brand in the future,” Gu Su Su said with a faint smile.
“Congratulations.” Yang Sijie saw that her lips were a little swollen. He couldn’t help but reach out, pinch her chin, and turn her face towards him. He asked, “What’s wrong with your lips? Are they allergic?”
Gu Su Su remained composed and said casually, “Oh, I accidentally ate some very spicy curry at the reception, and it made my lips swell. Even after reapplying lipstick, it couldn’t be covered.”
Yang Sijie released her chin and gently pressed her lips with his finger. He said, “It’s good that it’s nothing serious. Next time you eat curry, try a little first before taking a big bite.”
“Mhm.” Gu Su Su continued to remove her makeup in front of the mirror. On the surface, everything seemed ordinary. Looking at Yang Sijie, who was still beside her in the mirror, she suddenly felt that his smile hid too many secrets she didn’t know.
Yang Sijie said nothing more, as if it was enough just to watch her quietly like this.
As they lay in bed together, embracing each other, Gu Su Su knew he wasn’t asleep. She softly asked, “When are you going back to New York again? Is there something important that can’t be resolved through a video conference?”
“You’ve never cared about my business matters before. What’s gotten into you today that you’re interested in this?” Yang Sijie’s chin rested on the top of her head as he held her tightly.
“Nothing, I was just asking casually.”
“A project collapsed halfway through construction, so I have to go to the site myself to handle it.” Yang Sijie still explained the reason to her.
Gu Su Su asked again, “Then when can you come here again?”
“I haven’t even left yet, and you’re already missing me and want me to accompany you.”
Gu Su Su hummed, admitting that she missed him.
Yang Sijie kissed the top of her hair and said, “If you really miss me, can’t you take a few days off and come to New York to see me?”
“Alright. If you can’t get away for a while, I’ll take leave to see you once the design work is finished and before school starts.”
“My Su Su is finally willing to put aside her grand dreams to accompany me,” Yang Sijie said playfully.
Gu Su Su gently hit his chest. “You’re annoying, you’re teasing me again.”
Yang Sijie placed a hand on her back, slowly stroking her skin. But suddenly, her entire body tensed up, and she felt a sense of repulsion.
It was as if, in a flash, she no longer liked him touching her intimately like this.
“Why are you so cold? Are you cold?” Yang Sijie said, pulling the blanket covering her more snugly.
“I’m not cold.” Gu Su Su seemed to ask him casually, “Sijie, what was I like before? Was he the only boyfriend I had, or did I do anything to betray you?”
Yang Sijie stiffened slightly. “Why are you asking this all of a sudden? I’ve told you many times, our relationship has always been good, and you would never do anything to betray me.”
“But lately, another man keeps appearing in my mind. It’s not you.” Gu Su Su closed her eyes and described him to him. “He’s as handsome as you, he’s domineering and overbearing, but his occasional smile is very charming. He also… he also had that kind of thing with me…”
“Stop talking.” Yang Sijie felt his worst fear coming true. “This is a hallucination caused by the aftereffects. You’re mistaking me for someone else, understand?”
Gu Su Su felt his explanation was too far-fetched and said with great grievance and distress, “Sijie, I’m so scared. I’m afraid that when I recover my memory, I’ll find out I’m a promiscuous woman. I wasn’t a good girlfriend before, and I won’t be a good wife to you in the future. What should I do?”
Yang Sijie lifted her face, kissed her forehead, and comforted her, “Trust me, that won’t happen. You’ve always been my good girlfriend, and you’ll be my good wife in the future. Don’t think too much about it. It’s okay if you can’t remember things from the past, don’t force yourself to think about them.”
Inwardly, he was guessing if Su Su had met someone, or if someone had been talking nonsense to her.
Gu Su Su lay in his arms without speaking further. She had begun to doubt his explanations.
Qin Tianyi was real, not someone she had imagined in her mind. His dominance, coldness, and ruthlessness towards her tonight… were exactly like the man in her dreams.
…
After school started, she became much busier. Besides attending classes, she also took on some work introduced by Teacher Emma, and still had no time to take leave to visit Yang Sijie in New York.
She tried her best not to think about other things, focusing wholeheartedly on her studies and part-time jobs. It was quite fulfilling, preventing her from overthinking.
