After waiting for an unknown amount of time, Susu fell asleep in the car, while Qin Tianyi remained wide awake, watching the direction of the police station.
He finally saw Su Kangxi emerge from the police station, realizing Su Kangxi had been in a meeting there.
He nudged Susu, saying, "Wake up, I see Su Kangxi."
Susu immediately came to, rubbed her eyes, and looked out the car window.
Qin Tianyi opened the car door and said, "You wait in the car, I'll call him over."
With that, he got out of the car and stopped Su Kangxi.
Upon seeing him, Su Kangxi looked surprised and said, "I was just about to contact Sister Susu. Have you already heard about Shu Yan?"
"Susu knows too. We've been waiting for you in the car for a while," Qin Tianyi said, pointing towards where the car was parked.
Su Kangxi glanced over and remarked, "Your news is really well-informed."
"We only know that Shu Yan has been sent to a psychiatric hospital. We don't know the specifics yet," Qin Tianyi explained. "Susu was frantic when she heard the news."
Su Kangxi walked towards his car and said, "Mr. Qin, let's talk inside the car."
Qin Tianyi immediately walked ahead of him, opened the rear door, and sat in the back with him.
Susu turned her head to look at them and asked Su Kangxi, "You just finished your meeting, do you know the specifics? How did Shu Yan become mentally ill?"
Su Kangxi replied, "As soon as I came out of the meeting room, I heard from the colleague in charge of this case. Shu Yan hasn't had a psychiatric evaluation yet. When she was interrogated this morning, she suddenly went berserk and bit off a piece of flesh from a female police officer's arm. So, the two colleagues escorting her at the time determined she was insane and sent her directly to the psychiatric hospital."
Susu gasped, feeling that anyone would think Shu Yan was mad after doing something like that. Biting off a piece of flesh from a living person's arm sounded gruesome.
"Is that female police officer alright?"
Su Kangxi said, "She's missing a piece of flesh from her arm, so she's definitely not lightly injured. Fortunately, she's already been sent to the hospital for treatment and bandaging. Moreover, after Shu Yan was arrested, she's been in this erratic state, never cooperating properly with questioning or investigation. However, the technical evidence all proves she is the murderer."
"So, with Shu Yan in this state, is there a high possibility she'll be diagnosed as mentally ill?" Qin Tianyi asked worriedly.
Su Kangxi said helplessly, "It's hard to say right now. Experts will conduct a psychiatric evaluation for her in the next couple of days. We police also need to conclude the case. Either we indict Shu Yan for murder, or we can only deal with her as a mentally ill patient."
Qin Tianyi said thoughtfully, "I understand."
"But I don't understand. Huo Jin's death was too unjust," Susu said. Even though she knew about the blood relation with Shu Yan, she would never side with Shu Yan.
Su Kangxi could only inform them according to laws and regulations, "Huo Jin's family can file a civil lawsuit to seek financial compensation from Shu Yan and her family."
"The Huo family isn't short of money; they won't care about financial compensation," Susu said sadly.
Su Kangxi said, "I hope the experts' evaluation can expose Shu Yan's lies and acting. Even if she's gone mad now, as long as it can be proven she wasn't insane when she committed the murder, she can't escape legal sanctions."
Susu immediately asked, "How can it be proven she wasn't insane when she killed?"
"I heard from my colleagues that since she hasn't confessed to the crime, a psychologist will hypnotize her, and there will be a lie detector. Even if she doesn't want to tell the truth then, she might reveal everything under hypnosis."
"That's good," Susu felt there was still hope.
Su Kangxi smiled and said, "The legal system is very sound now. It won't easily let the guilty escape punishment, nor will it easily wrong an innocent person. You can rest assured."
"Of course, I'm relieved. I knew choosing to be a police officer was the right decision for you," Susu also smiled.
However, Qin Tianyi remained expressionless. He said to Susu, "Tomorrow, when you go out, I'll assign you an extra bodyguard."
For some reason, he still felt uneasy.
Susu quickly said, "Aren't two bodyguards enough? Adding another one would make it too conspicuous to go out."
Su Kangxi advised her, "Mr. Qin is doing this for your own good. What if the Shu family wants to retaliate against you? Having an extra bodyguard is a precaution, it's not a bad thing."
"Alright, alright, I'll listen to you both." Susu sat up straight with a smile and added, "Kangxi, we'll drop you off first. You must be tired after a whole day."
Qin Tianyi agreed and moved from the back seat to the front driver's seat.
Su Kangxi joked, "I have such great honor. Mr. Qin is driving me personally. I'm really benefiting from Sister Susu's influence."
"You talk too much. We're all friends. You keep calling him Mr. Qin, it's too distant," Susu turned and glared at him.
"Then what should I call him?"
Qin Tianyi didn't speak to them further. He started the car, thinking about his concerns. He felt something was not quite right about Shu Yan being sent to the psychiatric hospital after causing such a scene.
Susu replied to Su Kangxi, "You call me Sister Susu, so you should call him Brother Tianyi."
Upon hearing Susu say "Brother Tianyi," Su Kangxi couldn't help but think of "Brother Sijie," which he used to say often. He felt a pang of melancholy but didn't show it. He said, "Then I might as well call you brother-in-law directly. What do you say, Mr. Qin, would you mind if I call you brother-in-law?"
But Qin Tianyi seemed to be concentrating on driving and didn't respond to Su Kangxi for a long time, making Su Kangxi feel a bit awkward. He then added, "Then let's forget it..."
Before he could finish, Susu gently patted Qin Tianyi's shoulder. "You're too focused on driving. Kangxi is asking you if it's okay to call you brother-in-law."
Qin Tianyi snapped back to attention and immediately said, "Yes."
Susu looked at him and asked, "What were you thinking just now? Is there something troublesome at the company?"
The light ahead was red. Qin Tianyi stopped the car and said, "It's not about the company. I was wondering if the psychiatric hospital where Shu Yan is being kept has strict management, and if she might escape."
"She won't," Su Kangxi said. "She's different from other ordinary patients in the psychiatric hospital. Our colleagues will be watching her twenty-four hours a day, and she'll be handcuffed."
Qin Tianyi's slightly furrowed brow relaxed a little. Perhaps he was overthinking.
But what about the previous threat from the express delivery to Susu? If Shu Zhongze got that music box, he might know who the owner was but was unwilling to tell him the truth.
Now, all he could do was increase the number of bodyguards to protect Susu and Xiao Xingxing, to deal with any changes calmly.
Soon, they arrived at the downstairs of Su Kangxi's residence. Su Kangxi waved goodbye after getting out of the car and walked into the apartment building with his collar turned up.
Qin Tianyi continued driving and comforted Susu, "Now you can rest assured. It hasn't been officially evaluated yet, so it was just a false alarm."
Susu smiled at him and said, "Why do I feel like you're more nervous than I am? You told me to rest assured, but it seems you're the one who's not."
