Chapter 231: Chapter 231
— KILLIAN -
“Could you be any more childish?” I ask the moment I walk towards her by the buffet display. She hasn’t spoken to me all day and I know her well enough to know when she’s avoiding me. Maybe I wouldn’t be so pressed about it if she wasn’t hanging around so frivolously with my brother.
Relax hot head, you both have only been here for a few hours, a voice in my head teases me.
A few hours is enough for me to nearly run mad by not being with her when she’s right in front of me. My eyes are fixed on Hazel.
Hazel dips a fork of fruit in her mouth, chewing nonchalantly. “Childish? No, I’m only returning the favour.” She says, taking another chunk of chopped fruit in her mouth.
“What favour?” I ask, raising a brow in disbelief.
Her eyes trail up my body to my face. A smile forms on her face. I can already tell it’s fake and forced. “You’re smart. You’ll find out, soon enough.” She mutters, full mouth. I trace her gaze to notice they fell on my shoulders. The scoff that leaves her mouth accompanied with an eye roll made my face fall flat.
She can not be serious right now, I say to myself, finally realising what her charade is about. She’s putting up this act because of how she caught Kate and I when she arrived.
She’s the one who wanted us to be private yet she’s spiralling because of it? I let out a short breath, unbelief dawning hard on me.
Hazel walks away from me with the saucer in her hand. I trail my gaze across the beach to look for her. She’s with my brother.
I find myself sneering involuntarily. Like our minds synced for a second, Liam looks my way. He has a smug expression on his face as he waves at me. Tch. I want to wipe that grin and look off his face. My fingers are itching to throw a punch.
I take a saucer from the plates’ display by the buffet table and fill it with fruit. Papayas and watermelon to be precise. Liam keeps his eyes pierced in mine as he moves closer to Hazel, placing his hand lower, right behind Hazel’s waist. My jaw clenches.
The smirk he has as he slowly gestures his hand being cut off and blood oozing out of it makes me wonder what to do with this. . . Child. He’s responding to my threat to him with mockery. I squint, watching his hand movements carefully. He hasn’t touched her yet but he acts like he’s going to.
“You okay?” A feminine voice draws my attention to my side. It’s Kate. I humour a smile and nod before returning my eyes back to Liam. His hands are on Hazel’s shoulder. “You still can’t believe it, can you? The two of them seem like opposites from afar.” She says. They ARE opposites and WILL remain that way.
My hand grips my fork tightly then stuff my mouth with some papaya which I chew aggressively.
“I guess love blooms where least expected.”
I stuff my mouth with more fruit this time, it’s my way of keeping my tongue tied.
There is no such thing as love between those two.
“After all, opposites attract.” I withdraw my eyes from Hazel and that dufus of a brother to Kate. She presses her lips on my arm, in a short kiss. “I’ll see you later.” She says and darts away.
A devious thought comes to mind. Hazel forgets I am just as capable of being childish. Oh, you sure will, Kate, we definitely will meet again more.
