Her appearance was not particularly striking, so she quickly relaxed.
"Lu Yushan, who sent you? I don't need you to visit me," Xu Zhilan said dismissively, turning her face away with disgust.
Shen Xi chuckled inwardly, realizing Lu Yushan's attempt to curry favor had been met with a cold shoulder.
"Grandmother, I haven't done anything wrong. Why are you speaking to me like this?" Lu Yushan's face flushed. Feeling she had lost face in front of an outsider, she said softly.
Hearing this, Xu Zhilan's emotions became agitated. She pointed her index finger at Lu Yushan, her hand trembling, "How have you not done anything wrong? If you hadn't appeared back then, how could Xi Xi have left so suddenly, and her whereabouts remain unknown to this day?"
Shen Xi's heart tightened. She hadn't expected that her past experiences had left such a wound on this kind and respectable elder.
"Mom. How many years has it been? Don't bring up those sad things; it's not good for your health. Besides, Yushan didn't do it on purpose; she had her reasons," Jiang Jie said, gently tugging Xu Zhilan's sleeve to comfort her.
However, Shen Xi clearly detected Jiang Jie's bias towards Lu Yushan in her words.
Could it be that after marrying into the Qin family, Lu Yushan hadn't won over the old madam but had instead gained favor with her stepmother?
It seemed the old saying, "birds of a feather flock together," was indeed true.
"Yes, Grandmother. You've always had a prejudice against me all these years. In fact, I've been in pain too. If I had known it would turn out that way, I shouldn't have gone to find Si Ye in the first place," Lu Yushan said, her eyes red and her face filled with grievance.
Seeing her deceptive facade once again, Shen Xi felt like she was going to vomit. She really didn't want to stay any longer.
Standing up straight, Shen Xi picked up the medical kit and said, "Old Madam, that's all for today's treatment. I'll come again tomorrow."
"Please stay for dinner before you go," Xu Zhilan said, looking up at Shen Xi with a smile, her expression changing rapidly.
"No, thank you for your kind invitation, Old Madam. I have other matters to attend to." As Shen Xi turned to leave, she noticed a white medicine bottle on one end of the coffee table. She looked at Jiang Jie, "May I ask if this is the medicine the Old Madam usually takes?"
"Yes," Jiang Jie replied.
"May I see it?" Shen Xi asked.
Jiang Jie's eyes flickered, and after a slight hesitation, she handed the bottle to Shen Xi.
After examining it for a moment, Shen Xi said, "While I am treating the Old Madam, please do not let her take this medicine for the time being."
"Okay," Jiang Jie let out a soft sigh of relief.
Just as Shen Xi turned around, she was stopped by Butler Sun.
"Doctor Shen, our young master requests that you wait for him. He said he has something he wishes to discuss with you in person. He will arrive shortly."
Upon hearing this, Shen Xi's heart skipped a beat. She didn't want to see him and was about to refuse.
Just then, her phone rang. It was Butler Wu.
"Miss Shen, something terrible has happened. Chenchen is missing." As soon as the call connected, Butler Wu's anxious and worried voice came through, "How could this happen? When did it happen?" Shen Xi felt dizzy and a sense of panic washed over her.
Butler Wu's voice was filled with apology and guilt. "I don't know the exact time. When I went to call them down for snacks just now, I discovered one was missing. I am truly sorry, Miss Shen. It's my fault for not supervising them properly."
"Alright, don't say any more. I'll be right back," Shen Xi said, doing her best to control her emotions and calm herself down.
After hanging up, Shen Xi nodded her farewell to Xu Zhilan again. She took out a pen and paper from her bag, wrote down her phone number, and handed it to Butler Sun.
"I apologize, Butler Sun. I have an urgent matter and cannot wait for Mr. Qin. This is my contact information. If he has any questions about the Old Madam's condition, he can call me directly."
Having said that, Shen Xi quickly left the Qin residence.
