"What's wrong? Did something happen?" Shen Xi's heart skipped a beat, and she stepped towards the door.
There were some things she didn't want her aunt or Jian Fan to hear.
"It's urgent, I'll tell you when you get down here," Qin Si Ye said deliberately, fearing she wouldn't come down.
"But I just arrived at the hospital, I can't just leave like this?" Shen Xi glanced at the hospital room door with some hesitation.
Qin Si Ye's voice, however, was firm. "Jian Fan came with you, didn't he? Have him look after her for a while, and I'll bring you back soon."
Feeling that whatever it was on his end seemed genuinely urgent, Shen Xi had no choice but to comply.
After returning to the room, she informed Mei Yun and gave Jian Fan some instructions, then hurried to the basement with her bag. As soon as she left the room, Mei Yun looked up at Jian Fan and said, "Jian Fan, who do you think made that call just now?"
Jian Fan's heart leaped. He hadn't expected Mei Yun to ask him such a question. He smiled and replied, "I don't know."
"I have a feeling it was Qin Si Ye." Mei Yun's gaze was fixed on him. "Jian Fan, you're often with Xi Xi. Do you feel like she's getting close to Qin Si Ye?"
Jian Fan was about to tell the truth, but then he remembered Xie Yi Fei's warning. Moreover, he himself was starting to feel that Qin Si Ye and Shen Xi were a good match. After a moment's thought, he replied:
"They live in the same residential area now, and since Sister Xi is treating Old Madam Qin, their interactions are naturally more frequent than with others. I haven't noticed anything else."
Mei Yun felt that it wasn't that simple. Either Jian Fan's observation was insufficient, or he was holding something back.
Yesterday, in the cave and on the way back, she had clearly sensed that Qin Si Ye's gaze towards Shen Xi was not right.
It held the deep affection and admiration a man had for a woman.
No, she had to take action.
"Oh. Jian Fan, my mouth is a bit bland. Could you go to the supermarket outside and buy me some preserved plums?"
"Okay."
After Jian Fan left the room, Mei Yun immediately took out her phone and made a call.
In the basement, as Shen Xi stepped off the elevator, she saw Qin Si Ye's tall figure waiting for her.
Carrying the medical kit, she quickly ran towards him and asked anxiously, "What's wrong? What actually happened?"
Qin Si Ye glanced at her hand and opened the passenger door. "Get in the car first, and then we'll talk."
Shen Xi obediently sat in, then turned her head to look at him. "What's going on? Is someone sick?"
Seeing how urgently he had called her down, Shen Xi could only think of this as the reason.
"No one is sick." Qin Si Ye looked at her with a gentle expression.
Shen Xi immediately grew anxious upon hearing this. "Qin Si Ye, are you playing with me? Am I that easy to trick?"
"No, why would I play with you?" Qin Si Ye's face darkened slightly. "You need to get a check-up at the hospital. If I didn't say this, would you have come down?"
Shen Xi suddenly understood, realizing what he meant.
It had been two weeks since her last hospital check-up, and it was time to re-examine her vaccine antibodies.
"Aunt is still hospitalized, can I have the check-up in a few days? This isn't an urgent matter." Shen Xi's voice softened considerably, and she spoke to him in a pleading tone.
"No." The man gave her a stern look, locked the car doors, started the engine, and drove forward. "You walked so far yesterday and were so tired you fell asleep standing up. I need to check on you today to be at ease."
Shen Xi's heart stirred, her gaze towards him filled with a newfound brightness.
In the past, she had deliberately erected a barrier between them. Any of his approach or concern would trigger her instinct to reject and resist.
Now that she had removed that barrier and was learning to accept him, she truly understood how wonderful it felt to be cared for.
As they exited the basement, Shen Xi suddenly remembered what had happened that morning and couldn't help but ask, "What's the situation with your uncle? Has he fallen for my aunt?"
"If a man is willing to stay by a woman's side in the hospital all night, willingly, what else do you think the situation is?" Qin Si Ye's lips curved slightly, and he glanced at her.
"Does he really like my aunt?" Remembering the scene of their first meeting, Shen Xi still found it hard to believe.
"Well, I've never seen him be so attentive to any woman," Qin Si Ye said thoughtfully. Then, he frowned and looked at her. "You don't approve, do you?"
