The boy looked nervously at Chen Fa. Chen Fa shook his head at him and gestured for him to leave first.
After the boy left the room, Qin Si Ye pulled up a chair and sat opposite Chen Fa, fixing him with a chilling gaze.
Chen Fa’s heart pounded under his stare, his body trembling slightly as his eyes darted away.
“Mr. Chen, I believe the moment you saw us, you knew why we are here, didn’t you? You’ve been asleep for months, keeping our president waiting.” Zhao Ze spoke first, his face stern. The implication was clear: we’ve been watching you all this time.
Chen Fa’s heart sank. He hadn’t expected to face another “life or death” trial the moment he woke up.
Then, he thought, since he couldn't speak anyway, whether he said anything or not, it would lead to the same outcome. Let them do as they pleased.
With that thought, Chen Fa felt a sense of peace. He turned his face away, no longer meeting their eyes.
Seeing this, Zhao Ze stepped forward and cupped Chen Fa’s chin. “Chen Fa, what’s with your attitude? Five years ago, you had the audacity to deceive our president. Don’t you feel any remorse? Oh, and your son seems like a good kid, probably still in school. I know you’ve been to the gates of hell and back, so you don’t care about your own life. But what about your son’s future?”
Chen Fa understood the implied threat in the last sentence. He immediately turned back, his eyes reddening. He thought of his son, how pitiful he was. His mother had passed away from illness eight years ago, and they had been each other’s only support since then. And he, driven by a small greed, had made a mistake, offended the powerful man before him, and was forced to flee K City. For years, he had moved from place to place, his business never prospering, and his son had suffered greatly because of him. Now, he could endure anything, but he absolutely could not drag his son down with him anymore.
“Ah, ah…” Chen Fa opened his mouth and made sounds for a long time, but no clear words came out.
Zhao Ze noticed his abnormality. “President, he still can’t speak.”
“Then give him a piece of paper and let him write,” Qin Si Ye said, his gaze sharp and fixed on Chen Fa.
After Chen Fa received the paper and pen, before Zhao Ze could ask, he tremblingly wrote: “I’ll cooperate. You can do whatever you want to me, but please, do not trouble my son. He’s just a child and knows nothing.”
Qin Si Ye glanced at the writing and said coldly, “Everyone is responsible for their own actions. I will not trouble him.”
After that, Zhao Ze asked questions, and Chen Fa wrote his answers on the paper.
Zhao Ze got straight to the point, his first question being: “Five years ago, on the night of March 22nd, who was the woman you were chasing in the corridor?” This answer, he felt, was what the president most desperately wanted to know.
Chen Fa, his body trembling, glanced at Qin Si Ye and then wrote on the paper: “Yin Xi, an intern reporter for K Feng Magazine.”
When Qin Si Ye saw these words, his heart skipped a beat, and his hands clenched into fists. Although he had believed Yin Xi’s account a few days prior, hearing it confirmed by another involved party still shocked him. Beyond the shock was anger. How could he have dared to deceive him about such a critical matter? It was a direct challenge to his intelligence and capabilities. He forced himself to remain composed and did not interrupt, allowing Zhao Ze to continue.
After understanding the entire sequence of events from five years ago, Qin Si Ye’s face was covered in a thick layer of frost, and a bone-chilling aura emanated from him. The air in the room seemed to condense, making it difficult to breathe. He stood up abruptly and strode towards the exit.
Zhao Ze gave Chen Fa a fierce glare, took back the paper and pen, and quickly followed Qin Si Ye.
Once they were in the car, Qin Si Ye finally asked in a suppressed, cold voice, “Lu Yu Shan, still no news?”
“A few days ago, we found some clues, but then they went cold,” Zhao Ze replied cautiously.
Qin Si Ye suddenly roared, losing his composure, “Then send more people to continue the search. I will tear that woman to pieces!”
