The man's thought process was unlike ordinary people; how could he jump to that conclusion so quickly?
Hadn't she already told him she liked it? Why was he asking again?
Did he expect her to say she liked it or not?
"I never said that," Yin Xi quickly denied. "They each have their own charm, and every piece is suitable for a different owner. I like them very much, but I can't possibly buy one for myself, can I?"
Qin Siye looked at her without blinking. "Why not?"
Suddenly recalling Meng Qi's sarcastic remark in the mall, Yin Xi smiled indifferently. "These noble ornaments represent a certain deep meaning; one doesn't buy them for themselves." The implication was that they only held significance when given by someone else. Moreover, it had to be a sincere gift, not just something picked randomly from a warehouse.
Qin Siye stared at her intently, remaining silent for a long moment. After seven or eight seconds, he suddenly took her hand and changed the subject. "Did you run into Meng Qi at the mall?"
"Mhm," Yin Xi replied, not surprised at all. She figured the two bodyguards must have told him.
"What did she say to you?" Qin Siye asked.
"Nothing much. She just felt I stole her endorsement and said a few unpleasant things," Yin Xi replied dismissively.
Qin Siye looked directly at her. "Why do the bodyguards say you two almost came to blows?"
Came to blows? It seemed those two bodyguards had provided him with quite a detailed report.
"It wasn't as serious as they described. She just tried to stop me, so I pushed her away casually. It's no big deal," Yin Xi replied softly. She didn't want to tell Qin Siye every detail of her argument with Meng Qi. If she did, wouldn't it make him think she cared deeply about him not gifting her a necklace? These things depended on a sincere heart; others' taunts or her own demands held no meaning.
Qin Siye continued to gaze at her, feeling as though she was hiding something from him.
"Alright, I didn't suffer any loss from this, so let's just drop it," Yin Xi suddenly broke into a bright smile and put down the bag. "Didn't you say we were going to the old house? Let's go, we shouldn't keep Grandma waiting too long."
The next day, as Yin Xi's groggy eyes opened to the sound of an alarm, she saw Qin Siye emerge from the walk-in closet, dressed in a gray suit.
"Siye, why are you up so early? Where are you off to?"
"You're awake," Qin Siye said, walking slowly towards her. "To the company."
"Your stitches haven't been removed yet, how can you go to work?" Yin Xi suddenly flipped out of bed and grabbed his hand, wanting to stop him.
Qin Siye replied, "There are some tricky matters at the company that I must personally handle."
"It's only Monday, and it's still so early. What kind of urgent matters could require your personal presence?" Yin Xi looked at him with confusion.
"It's related to your endorsement," Qin Siye said. As soon as he finished speaking, his phone rang. He glanced at it; it was Zhao Ze. He answered immediately.
"Hello?"
"What? So many people have shown up?"
"Okay. You stall them. I'll be there immediately."
"What's wrong? What did you mean by that just now? Has there been a problem with the advertisement?" Yin Xi asked him nervously.
Qin Siye's lips curved into a faint smile. "No. It's that the effect was too good. Many companies want to sign you for endorsements and can't reach you, so they've gone to Zhuo Sheng."
"Ah? What should we do then? I don't want to endorse for other companies." Hearing this, Yin Xi couldn't help but frown. She hadn't expected that merely helping out would cause such a stir in K City. However, being a celebrity was not her ambition; her goal was to promote traditional Chinese medicine.
"You don't need to worry. I'll handle this," Qin Siye said, placing a doting kiss on her forehead. "However, you'd best not go out today, especially not to the big pharmacies. I'm afraid those people might find you there."
"No way. I used an artist's name, how would they find me there?" Yin Xi said dismissively.
"Why wouldn't they? Don't you remember when you were 'solving a case' in front of the pharmacy? Many people were live-streaming, and quite a few people in K City should recognize you," Qin Siye replied.
"'Solving a case'?" Yin Xi only then recalled that incident and couldn't help but laugh as she grabbed the man's hand and asked, "Did you see those live streams?"
