Chapter 6 The Test of the First Planet
Xu Jingming and the other 58,920 people gathered together, watching the illusory figure in mid-air.
The illusory figure looked down, "The rules of the Mysterious Land are that you must pass the test of each planet to qualify for the next. After experiencing all the tests, you can reach the final seventh planet."
These 58,920 people all had impressive backgrounds.
After all, being able to know about the ‘Blood Rain World’ opportunity and sacrifice 10,000 gold coins made them the cream of the crop among cosmic citizens! Among them were unparalleled geniuses from certain civilizations, royalty from certain civilization empires, and members of some cosmic families.
"Seven planets, each with many opportunities," the illusory figure continued. "From the first planet to the seventh, the opportunities get better and better. So your best choice is to reach the seventh planet before exploring for opportunities."
Xu Jingming sighed inwardly.
This guide had essentially revealed the best approach.
"The seventh planet? How many can reach the seventh planet?"
"Our civilization's highest achievement was only the fifth planet."
"It's a win if we can get a good opportunity. Otherwise, if we keep exploring and get kicked out when time runs out without any opportunities, that would be a huge loss."
Many cosmic citizens below muttered, disagreeing with the guide's words. Their respective civilizations had a lot of exploration experience to draw on, and they knew how difficult it was to reach the seventh planet.
"We came to the Mysterious Land for opportunities."
"The opportunity that suits you best is the best."
As some people muttered, the illusory figure above continued, "You have 330 days to explore the Mysterious Land! During these 330 days, you can try the tests again and again, you can look for opportunities, and you can even go offline to consult your teachers and elders!"
"Once the 330 days are up, you will be expelled and will not be allowed to enter the Mysterious Land again."
"I wish you all the best in reaching the seventh planet and obtaining the best opportunities." As the illusory figure spoke, "The exploration time starts now! You can check your personal panel for the detailed test content of the seven planets."
With that, the illusory figure disappeared.
Immediately, everyone opened their personal panels to check. Xu Jingming did the same, and it included test information.
"Buzz."
With a light tap.
A phantom image of the first planet appeared before him, with a large canyon marked on it, as if the entire planet had been split by a single strike.
The canyon was connected by chains.
Step onto the chains and carefully walk from one end of the canyon to the other. When you successfully reach the other end, you pass the test and can enter a miniature wormhole to go to the second planet.
There were many chains! Their lengths ranged from 828 kilometers to 916 kilometers, and there were many dangers along the way. Once you failed, you had to start all over again.
Other areas of the first planet also held many opportunities.
"Chains?" Xu Jingming didn't care about the opportunities on the first planet; he only cared about the chains.
"Let's try it out first."
Xu Jingming quickly determined the route based on the three-dimensional map provided by the personal panel.
"First, choose your equipment." Through the personal panel, he quickly selected a set of lightweight armor, combat boots, and a spear. Although Xu Jingming's footwork and spearmanship had reached the seventh level, his shield techniques were temporarily stuck at 6th level 99%.
"Let's go."
Following the path, Xu Jingming advanced.
People from various civilizations around him were also choosing their weapons and equipment, heading towards the Great Canyon.
"I'm Lan Mo from the Nine Feathers Star Alliance," a tall, blue-skinned human walking beside Xu Jingming said enthusiastically.
Xu Jingming glanced at him. He was estimated to be 2.35 meters tall, with blue skin and long hair braided into hundreds of small braids. He wondered if this ‘Lan Mo’ understood the importance of concealing his identity.
"Wu Ming from the Wu Gou Star Alliance," Xu Jingming casually gave a fake name.
"Wu Gou Star Alliance? It's quite far from our Nine Feathers Star Alliance. My biggest goal in this life is to travel to every star alliance in the entire human territory, but now, I haven't even finished exploring our Hunter Cosmic Sector. Tickets for inter-star alliance travel are too expensive," Lan Mo lamented.
Xu Jingming was curious, "I haven't really looked into it. How much does a ticket from the Nine Feathers Star Alliance to the Wu Gou Star Alliance cost?"
"The ticket definitely costs more than 100 million cosmic credits," Lan Mo said. "And it's not even a direct route! You have to go through several star alliances, which takes at least three months."
Xu Jingming nodded.
The direct route between the Nine Feathers Star Alliance and the Wu Gou Star Alliance was more than 2 billion light-years! If he detoured through multiple star alliances, it would indeed take a long time. Spaceships that could travel in the distant starry sky were incredibly expensive, so the tickets would naturally be very high.
"I've only toured less than half of the 185 star alliances in the Hunter Cosmic Sector," Lan Mo shook his head. "When will I be able to visit other cosmic sectors? To see the world? By the way, does your Wu Gou Star Alliance have any particularly interesting places?"
"I don't like to travel; I don't know," Xu Jingming said.
He hadn't even left Blue Star civilization! He hadn't even left the solar system.
"The path of evolution requires learning and traveling the universe," Lan Mo said. "Brother Wu Ming, there are too many wonders in the universe, and different civilizations have different splendors. Seeing more is very helpful for cultivation."
"Oh," Xu Jingming responded.
He had no money, no time.
"Let me tell you about the last time I went to the North Sparrow Star Alliance, it was so interesting..." Lan Mo chatted enthusiastically.
He talked as Xu Jingming listened, occasionally praising and commenting.
After half an hour of walking, they arrived at the Great Canyon.
"Time flies when you're chatting," Lan Mo said happily, looking at the Great Canyon ahead. "Alright, Brother Wu Ming, it was a pleasure talking to you. I wish we could meet on the seventh planet."
"You're quite confident," Xu Jingming said.
"You have to dare to dream!"
Lan Mo was full of confidence as he stepped onto a thick chain in front of him.
The chains were all dark gray and about the size of Xu Jingming's fist, stretching endlessly into the void ahead.
"It's only a chain less than a thousand kilometers long." Lan Mo walked on the chain. The wind in this canyon was very strong. The gale swept through, causing Lan Mo to sway. "This wind is too strong! Brother Wu Ming, you have to be careful."
"Thanks," Xu Jingming also stepped onto another chain next to him.
"Physical fitness is still restricted to the level of the Blood Rain World. Falling into such a deep canyon will definitely lead to death."
Xu Jingming held a spear and walked very steadily on the chain.
He took one step at a time.
Walking on a chain was easy for experts with cellular control.
But—
"Whoosh," "Whoosh," "Whoosh." The farther they walked, the stronger the wind in the canyon became. The wind was irregular, sometimes strong, sometimes weak, and sometimes the direction changed!
Xu Jingming used the spear in his hand as a balance pole while walking on the chain.
"Using a three-meter spear as a balance pole makes it much easier to walk," Xu Jingming walked quickly.
"Oh no! Not good!"
A familiar shout came from nearby.
Xu Jingming glanced over and saw that Lan Mo, who had said ‘see you on the seventh planet’ earlier, had lost his balance and fell off the chain.
"Next time, I'll get a balance pole too." As Lan Mo fell, he looked at Xu Jingming on the chain not far away and immediately felt that having a ‘balance pole’ was much more convenient.
"This isn't just a balance pole." Xu Jingming held his spear, observing the other chains around him. He could vaguely see a few other chains within visible range, and cosmic citizens were carefully walking on them, also carrying their weapons. "Moreover, the first planet's test set by the seventeen top factions shouldn't just be about testing balance."
He continued to walk.
Although the chain was long and swayed in the wind, Xu Jingming walked as if on flat ground, using his three-meter spear for balance.
After walking more than a hundred kilometers, Xu Jingming suddenly saw a four-armed human on a chain in the distance, wielding four large scimitars and fighting three strange birds. The three strange birds attacked repeatedly, extremely fierce.
"There are strange bird attacks?" Xu Jingming's heart tightened.
The strange birds also noticed Xu Jingming and immediately let out piercing screeches, which made Xu Jingming more alert, and he walked forward faster.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh—
Another group of strange birds flew over, as many as five.
Each strange bird was no smaller than a human when it spread its wings, and they were extremely ferocious. They were now pouncing on Xu Jingming.
"Here they come."
Xu Jingming flicked his spear, drawing an arc. Although the strange birds swooped down and their wings also hit the spear, the spear still followed a graceful curve and pierced the strange bird's eye, penetrating its brain.
One spear, one kill.
The strange bird immediately fell from the sky.
Pfft, pfft… pfft—
Finding openings. Xu Jingming had noticed when watching the four-armed man fighting the strange birds earlier that the strange birds' claws…
"There are strange birds?" Lan Mo saw this and immediately threw his balance pole forward, then quickly drew his saber to deal with the strange birds.
Bang, bang, bang.
After several rounds of fighting, although he managed to block the strange birds, he couldn't maintain his balance. He accidentally fell again.
"Having a balance pole is useless, Brother Wu Ming's method doesn't work either, what should I do? How can I get through this?" As Lan Mo fell, he was still pondering the next method to try.
The method was to fight your way through!
Xu Jingming continued forward on the chain, occasionally encountering strange birds. Sometimes there were one or two, sometimes as many as seven or eight. These strange birds would attack any cosmic citizen they saw.
But Xu Jingming wielded his spear and fought all the way!
He could maintain his balance while killing, and in this way, he reached the other end of the long chain.
The chain was about 900 kilometers long.
"It took a total of 18 hours and 26 minutes," Xu Jingming looked at his personal panel to confirm the time spent crossing the chain.
A miniature wormhole appeared in front of the chain.
The wormhole was only three meters in diameter, and it was dark and twisted.
"I wonder how my new friend Lan Mo is doing. Forget the seventh planet, I hope I can see him on the fifth planet." Xu Jingming then stepped into the miniature wormhole.
On the endless chain, Lan Mo was fighting the strange birds with his twin sabers when he fell again.
As he fell, his eyes were blank.
"Am I going to be stuck on the first planet forever?"
"I'm also a sixth-order Star Evolutionary who cultivated on my own. My father praised me for having a combat power boost of 8x!—A single chain is stopping me?" Lan Mo couldn't believe it, nor did he want to believe it.
"It's okay, I have a year!" Lan Mo's eyes were filled with determination, and then he plunged into the endless darkness of the canyon.
******
Xu Jingming walked out of the miniature wormhole, looking at a new planet before him.
Looking at this vast planet, he saw some strange creatures! These creatures were somewhat similar to large mantises and large beetles. At least, Xu Jingming saw six different-looking creatures at a glance.
"The Zerg," Xu Jingming immediately identified them.
The Zerg were a terrifying race in the universe, and they had posed a great threat to cosmic humans in the past.
Of course, the entire ‘Zerg’ race was now completely controlled by humans and used for their benefit, serving as one of the cosmic human ‘troops’.
"Is this second planet a Zerg planet?" Xu Jingming looked around. The area he was in was the miniature wormhole exit area, protected by a shield that prevented the Zerg from approaching.
Outside the shield, he could see Zerg from a distance.
Some solitary Zerg were gnawing on rocks, while more than a dozen Zerg were advancing together. Further away, a cosmic citizen was fighting five Zerg. The sounds of the battle quickly attracted more Zerg. In just a dozen seconds, hundreds of Zerg swarmed over and tore the cosmic citizen into pieces.
"That's terrible," Xu Jingming's pupils shrank.
Being torn into pieces in the virtual world was almost as real as it could get, and the feeling wouldn't be pleasant.
Xu Jingming didn't watch anymore but opened his personal panel. "Check the test content for this second planet."
