Liu Yifeng immediately rolled his eyes at him, "Do I look like a criminal?"
Lu Fei chuckled, "You don't really look like one, but that's over nine million! How did you manage to earn so much money in such a short time? Even printing counterfeit money wouldn't be this fast!"
"Don't underestimate my ability to make money. I assure you, this money was earned honestly and can withstand any investigation," Liu Yifeng said.
In truth, Lu Fei didn't believe Liu Yifeng would do anything illegal. He was just surprised he could earn so much money in such a short period.
"You're amazing, your earning speed is incredible.
I'm following you from now on. Whether I can be your neighbor in the future depends on you."
Liu Yifeng clapped him on the shoulder, "Villas for you and Qiang Zi are just a matter of time. As long as you work hard, if not this year, then definitely next year, I'll help you get a big house."
"Okay, I'm holding you to your word."
Afterward, they locked up the company and went to the elevator lobby to wait.
The elevator arrived shortly, and they both stepped inside. Lu Fei pressed the button for the first floor, and the elevator slowly descended.
It stopped at the twelfth floor and the doors opened.
Outside stood two men, one tall and one short, one fat and one thin, both wearing ID badges around their necks.
They were chatting idly when, as they were about to enter the elevator, the fatter of the two unexpectedly spotted a familiar face.
"Hey, Yifeng, what are you doing here?"
Liu Yifeng also recognized the man as a former colleague from his previous company. The man, Li Ming, had a desk opposite his, and they used to chat frequently during work.
The taller, leaner man, Miao Pengxiong, sat a few desks away from him. Their relationship was neither close nor distant.
After Liu Yifeng left the company, he occasionally chatted with Li Ming on social media, hearing about office gossip.
As time went on and they drifted apart, their conversations became less frequent.
If not for the fact that his company was located here, they might never have crossed paths again.
Unexpectedly, he ran into them on his first visit since leaving the company. He smiled and greeted them.
"What a coincidence, meeting you here.
Are you working on a Sunday? Don't you have the day off?"
"Don't you know the situation with our company? Clocking out on time and two days off on weekends are not things we have.
Recently, the company landed a big deal, and they've even taken away our single day off, making everyone work overtime." Li Ming explained.
"How can you work without rest? Do you get overtime pay for that?" Liu Yifeng inquired further.
"No overtime pay, but the boss said that at the end of the year, everyone will receive an extra month's salary as a year-end bonus. Otherwise, who would work this hard for him?"
Watching the lively conversation between the two, Lu Fei looked confused, "Yifeng, who are they?"
"They are my former colleagues, Li Ming and Miao Pengxiong." Liu Yifeng suddenly remembered Lu Fei was beside him and quickly introduced them.
Upon hearing they were Liu Yifeng's former colleagues, Lu Fei smiled and nodded in greeting.
Just then, the elevator doors opened. Li Ming asked again, "Yifeng, why are you here? Did you find a new job here?
You mentioned before that you planned to farm at home. Have you decided farming isn't for you?
No offense, but how many young people are developing their careers in the countryside these days?
Working for a company is better, with room for advancement. I was just promoted to supervisor in our department last week.
If you're willing, why not come back and work? I can put in a word with HR."
He wasn't looking down on Liu Yifeng's decision to develop in the countryside, but he hoped he would be more ambitious.
Liu Yifeng congratulated him upon hearing about his promotion, "Congratulations on becoming a supervisor.
But thank you for your kindness. I'm not here to apply for a job."
Miao Pengxiong chimed in, "Yifeng, if you're not applying for a job, why are you here?
Li Ming is kindly offering you a job back at the company, why are you refusing without even considering it? Do you look down on this job?"
"You've misunderstood, I don't look down on it, I am..." Before Liu Yifeng could explain that he had rented a space on the sixteenth floor to start his own company, Li Ming interrupted him.
"It's alright, everyone has their own aspirations.
It's fate that we met here today. We haven't gotten together for a while, so let me treat you and your friend to lunch. You won't refuse that, will you?" Li Ming, sensing Liu Yifeng's awkwardness, extricated him.
"Let me treat you instead. But I need to pick up my dad. You guys go ahead to the restaurant and wait. I'll join you right after I get my dad."
"It's settled that I'm treating, so don't argue with me. The place is our usual spot. I'll go with Pengxiong to grab a table and order. We'll have to queue if we're late. Hurry over after you pick up your dad." Without giving Liu Yifeng a chance to refuse, Li Ming and Miao Pengxiong walked out of the lobby first.
"Your two colleagues are quite amusing. They didn't give you a chance to explain and thought you were looking for a job. Imagine their expressions if they knew you opened a company on the sixteenth floor and became a boss!" Lu Fei said with a laugh.
"Li Ming is a decent person. We used to get along well at the company, and after I resigned and stayed home, he still often chatted with me.
Initially, I thought about hiring him if he wasn't doing well, to be a junior leader in my company.
However, since he's already reached the supervisor position, it indicates he has good prospects for future advancement, so I'll let him continue his current role.
As for opening my company on the sixteenth floor, I'll keep it from him for now. Otherwise, they might think I'm deliberately showing off."
"I can see he's quite loyal. As for Miao Pengxiong, he doesn't seem like a good person. He looks like the type to fawn over those in power and step on those below. You should be careful not to hire him, he might negatively influence the company's atmosphere," Lu Fei advised.
Liu Yifeng already had this in mind, "Don't worry, even if I can't find anyone else, I won't hire him."
Leaving the office building, Liu Yifeng led Lu Fei to where they had parked.
As soon as they left, Miao Pengxiong stared blankly in the direction they had gone.
"What are you spacing out for? Get in the car!" Li Ming had recently bought a new car worth over a hundred thousand, so he enjoyed showing it off wherever he went.
"Did you see that Porsche?" Miao Pengxiong asked, pointing to the car that had already driven some distance away.
Li Ming followed his gaze and spotted the car, "I see it. What about it?"
"I think I just saw Liu Yifeng and his friend get into it, and Liu Yifeng was driving." Miao Pengxiong said.
"You must be mistaken. That's a Porsche. One car is worth seven or eight of mine. Yifeng's family lives in the countryside, and he can't even afford a decent apartment worth hundreds of thousands. How could he afford such an expensive car?" Li Ming said, his eyes filled with envy as he mentioned the Porsche.
