"Boss, why don't you bring more watermelons to sell? I haven't even bought one yet!" a woman complained.
She had just tasted Liu Yifeng's watermelon and intended to buy more to take home.
It was summer vacation, and the children were all home. She could eat several more. Who knew there would be no more watermelons left.
"Exactly, we haven't bought any either. Why don't you go get some more to sell? We'll wait here for you."
"Yes, yes, yes, we're willing to wait!"
...
Everyone nodded in agreement, as Liu Yifeng's watermelons were simply too delicious.
They had only tasted a small piece, which was far from satisfying. The feeling of wanting more made them eager to eat again.
So, even though they were sold at a high price, they were willing to buy them.
Liu Yifeng glanced at the time; it was already five o'clock. If he went back and returned, it would be past six o'clock, and he wouldn't get home until at least eight or nine at night, which was too late.
He said, "How about this, I'll bring a cartload tomorrow morning to sell. You can come then."
"Can't we do it today? We're all willing to wait, and it won't be a wasted trip for you." They thought Liu Yifeng was worried about them leaving and immediately stated their willingness.
Liu Yifeng smiled and said, "You've misunderstood. I have my child at home, and it's not good to go back too late.
I guarantee you'll be able to buy my big watermelons tomorrow morning. You can buy as many as you want, and there will be plenty."
"Alright then, you must come tomorrow!" someone urged, not entirely reassured.
Liu Yifeng nodded: "Definitely!"
Only then did everyone disperse and go to buy other things.
"Tongtong, the watermelons sold so quickly today, all thanks to you helping Daddy with business.
It's still early, what do you want to eat? Daddy will take you!" Liu Yifeng said with a smile.
Tongtong thought for a moment and said, "I want to eat hamburgers and fries!"
"Okay, Daddy will take you now!" Liu Yifeng readily agreed.
Tongtong looked incredulous: "Daddy, you agree to let me eat it?
But Mommy always says it's junk food and children shouldn't eat it."
"It's okay, as long as you don't eat it too often. If you want to eat it, Daddy will take you. Let's go to the store to eat now."
"Yay, Daddy is the best!" Tongtong exclaimed with joy and excitement.
Immediately, Liu Yifeng took Tongtong to a KFC. There were quite a few customers in the store.
Most were adults with children, and there were a couple of couples.
After finding an empty seat, Liu Yifeng went to order. He ordered a few things for Tongtong that he loved.
Then he ordered a Coke for himself, and finally, he asked the staff to pack a hamburger and some Orleans chicken wings for him to take home for his father to try this newfangled food.
Before long, the meal was served.
"Tongtong, is it delicious?" Liu Yifeng took a sip of Coke and asked his son, who was eating.
Tongtong was taking big bites of the chicken burger and nodded repeatedly like a pecking chick: "Delicious, thank you Daddy!"
"You silly child, it's only right for Daddy to treat you.
If you want to eat anything in the future, Daddy will satisfy you, but the important thing is not to overeat." Liu Yifeng's expression became serious at this point.
Tongtong happily said "Okay" and then buried his head in his food again.
Liu Yifeng didn't like this kind of food, so he just ordered a Coke and drank it while waiting for Tongtong to finish.
After eating for more than twenty minutes, Tongtong patted his round belly and let out a satisfied burp: "Daddy, I'm done."
"Here, wipe your mouth. We'll go home soon." Liu Yifeng handed Tongtong a tissue to wipe the oil stains from the corner of his mouth.
Then he got up, holding Tongtong's hand with one hand and the packed hamburger for his father with the other.
As they walked out of the store, a pure white puppy began to circle Tongtong, its tail wagging furiously, and it occasionally stuck out its little tongue at Tongtong, looking incredibly cute.
Seeing the puppy, Tongtong wasn't afraid. Instead, he instinctively reached out to pick it up.
Liu Yifeng quickly stopped him: "Tongtong, don't pick it up, be careful it might bite."
But Tongtong didn't listen. He went ahead and held the puppy in his arms, gently stroking its forehead: "Daddy, this puppy is so well-behaved, it won't bite."
Fortunately, the puppy was very docile in Tongtong's arms and showed no signs of biting. Liu Yifeng was finally relieved: "Alright Tongtong, put the puppy down now, we need to go home."
"Daddy, can we take the puppy home to raise? Mommy always said that raising a puppy would make the house dirty and wouldn't let me, but I really like dogs," Tongtong said to Liu Yifeng with a piteous look.
Raising a puppy wasn't impossible, but what if the puppy had an owner? If they took it away without permission, they would be accused of being dog thieves.
Thinking of this, he said softly, "Tongtong, when we get home, I'll ask around the village if there are any puppies available for adoption. If there are, shall we get one?
This one in your arms belongs to someone else, and we can't take it away without their permission, or its owner will be worried."
"But I like this little puppy so much. Can Daddy find its owner and ask them to let me take it home to raise?" Tongtong tightly hugged the puppy, afraid he wouldn't be allowed to keep it.
The puppy seemed to understand Tongtong's words and whimpered as if afraid of being left behind.
Liu Yifeng's expression became somewhat troubled. He didn't know whose dog it was.
He couldn't just wait here indefinitely for the owner to appear.
Just then, an old man who was sitting nearby to cool off said, "This is a puppy born to a stray dog. The stray dog was hit by a car a couple of days ago and died.
If you want to raise it, take it home. Otherwise, this dog will eventually starve to death."
"Daddy, then let's take it home to raise. I promise I'll take good care of it and won't bother you," Tongtong said, his resolve to take the puppy home strengthened when he heard it had no one to care for it.
Liu Yifeng thought for a moment and finally nodded in agreement: "Alright then, we'll take it home to raise. But if the puppy bites anyone, I'll send it away."
"Okay, but I believe the puppy won't bite. It's so well-behaved, it must be an obedient little baby," Tongtong gently stroked the puppy's forehead, unaware that he himself was also a baby.
Whether the puppy understood their conversation or not, it had been whimpering earlier but was now lying comfortably in Tongtong's arms, its eyes occasionally squinting.
"Daddy, the puppy has no mommy. It must not have eaten anything for the past two days. Can we buy it some food to take home?" Tongtong asked.
Liu Yifeng nodded in agreement: "Okay, let's go to the pet store first to buy some food and toys for the puppy. Then you can play games with the little dog."
Since they had decided to raise it, they would raise it well. Liu Yifeng himself was also a dog lover.
He had a small mixed-breed dog when he was young. It was very obedient and had several litters of puppies, but it was eventually stolen by dog thieves.
From then on, he never raised a dog again.
If it weren't for Tongtong wanting a puppy, he might never have raised another dog in his life.
Then they went to the pet store and bought several bags of dog food and milk powder for the puppy.
The staff said that this puppy was only a month old and couldn't eat everything. It needed to be fed a combination of milk powder and dog food.
When it got a little older, it could eat other foods, but it had to be low in salt.
Liu Yifeng remembered the staff's instructions, paid, and then drove home.
On the way, Tongtong was playing with a small ball he had bought for the puppy: "Daddy, shouldn't we give the puppy a name?"
