Chapter 186: Chapter 186: Gu Yan, I did not
If this is all he wanted, then in those countless previous times, he could have completely disregarded her wishes and feelings, just to satisfy his own joy!
He abruptly pushed Gu Yan away, his gaze dark and threatening.
Gu Yan, unprepared for his sudden shove, was knocked to the ground.
Tang Yuxiu was startled, jumped up quickly, knocking over the chair behind him with a loud crash.
He hesitated, unsure of what to do, should he help her up? Would she want his help?
Apologize?
He, Tang Yuxiu, had never spoken words of apology!
So what could he do?
Standing there, he was suddenly at a loss.
Gu Yan propped herself up with one hand, glanced at him with indifference, and suddenly smiled, "Was there already someone who satisfied you last night, so now you don’t care for me offering myself?"
Tang Yuxiu was shocked at her words, his whole body tensed—she knew?!
A sudden wave of panic filled his heart.
But his reaction at that moment only confirmed for her what he had done and with whom he had been the previous night!
Indeed, a woman’s intuition is frighteningly accurate!
Her heart ached, steeped in bitterness.
While she guarded the empty villa alone, he was with another woman, turning desires into reality elsewhere!
It was a sorrow that was hers alone.
In Gu Yan’s eyes, there was no mockery or sadness; she merely felt that she was a complete joke!
The calmer she appeared, the more Tang Yuxiu’s mind felt uneasy.
"Gu Yan, I didn’t!" he denied.
Yet he stubbornly believed that even if he were dead drunk, he wouldn’t touch someone irrelevant to him, someone he felt nothing for.
Gu Yan got up from the ground and looked at him indifferently, "Why explain it to me? Sleeping with the person who is soon to be your fiancée is surely better than with a mistress. After all, with a fiancée it’s true love, while a mistress is merely useful when a man is unsatisfied.
Since you’re satisfied now, I won’t offer myself. Wait until you need me next time."
She sat back at the dining table, eating the leftover breakfast as if nothing was amiss, only she knew how tasteless and hard to swallow it truly was.
The blockage in her chest was severe, yet she would not show him any weakness.
Tang Yuxiu’s hand by his side clenched tightly, suppressing his emotions; he greatly disliked Gu Yan’s attitude, truly feeling he was an asshole.
Every time he wanted things to go better, it only ended up worse, making things even more strained.
Tang Yuxiu forcefully kicked the chair on the ground, sending it skidding far until it hit the wall and stopped. Tang Yuxiu strode out of the kitchen, heading upstairs.
Gu Yan finally dropped her facade, her eyes instantly red, filling with unshed tears, yet she tried hard to hold them back.
Gu Yan, wake up, she thought. Loving a man who doesn’t love you will only hurt you, realize this now, make a decisive choice and give up!
But if emotional attachments were easily managed, the world wouldn’t be filled with so many love-struck fools.
She bit her lower lip gently, widened her eyes, and looked up at the ceiling. A tear escaped the corner of her eye, which she swiftly wiped away before lowering her head, biting forcefully into her toast.
Eat, just eat so you won’t think about crying.
She stuffed bread down her throat, holding back the tears.
Suddenly, the sound of footsteps descending the stairs reached her ears. Gu Yan hurried to wipe her eyes, wanting to be sure there were no tears left.
However, Tang Yuxiu didn’t come her way; instead, he headed straight for the door.
He left. The sound of the car gradually faded away, until it was no longer audible.
Gu Yan’s tightly wound nerves slowly relaxed. She glanced at the uneaten breakfast on her plate, then decisively threw it all in the trash, along with the breakfast that Tang Yuxiu had barely touched.
Once again, the villa was left to her alone. Not wanting to stay, she grabbed her backpack and headed out.
She hadn’t visited Gu’s father in several days, so she made her way straight to the hospital.
On the way, she bought plenty of supplements and fruits to bring with her.
When Mrs. Gu saw her, she never showed a kind face, but Gu’s father was very lucid, and because of him, she didn’t dare blatantly scold or hit her again.
Gu Yan put down the things she brought and walked over to inquire of Gu’s father, "Dad, how is your health?"
"I’m recovering well, no need to worry."
Gu Yan nodded, "That puts my mind at ease."
Mrs. Gu snorted coldly, "Pretending to care, only after so many days do you remember to see Old Gu. Who knows if you really have him in your heart."
Gu Yan glanced at Mrs. Gu lightly, not bothering to respond.
Instead, Gu’s father glared at Mrs. Gu with displeasure, then turned and smiled at Gu Yan, "How do you have time to come today? Don’t you have work?"
"The company held a promotion banquet yesterday, so today everyone has a day off. I came to see you, Dad."
"That’s good. I was afraid you’d delay work to come see me."
"I wouldn’t, Dad. I know what to do. Without work, how would I earn money to buy supplements for you?"
Gu’s father smiled, "I knew you were very filial."
"Who wouldn’t say nice things? Old Gu, you’re fooled by her act. Who knows what she’s really thinking, not wanting to see you!"
Gu’s father’s face darkened, "Even if she doesn’t want to come, it’s not that she doesn’t want to see me, but she doesn’t want to see you! When I’m talking to Gu Yan, you’d better shut up!"
"Why should I? Old Gu, I’m your wife, she’s just a stray girl, who’s really close to you?"
"Shut up! She’s not a stray girl, she’s my daughter!"
"Your daughter? You never had a daughter! If it weren’t for back then..."
"Wu Xiu Er!" Gu’s father shouted angrily. He rarely called Mrs. Gu by name, but this time he was extremely furious.
Hearing this, Mrs. Gu suddenly froze, as if realizing something. A flicker of panic flashed in her eyes, and she angrily glared at Gu Yan before simply sitting by the window, preferring not to see.
Gu Yan didn’t notice anything and tried to calm her father, "Dad, don’t be angry, don’t always argue with her because of me."
Seeing she had no doubts or reactions, Gu’s father seemed much more at ease, nodding, "Hmm, Gu Yan, you’ve been wronged all these years."
"It’s alright. You’ve been good to me, and now I can support myself, so I’m not very wronged."
Gu’s father looked at her with heartache. She shouldn’t have been like this...
After staying in the hospital for a while, Gu Yan, mindful of Mrs. Gu, didn’t linger long. She said a few words to her father, advised him to rest well, and then left.
After Gu Yan left, Mrs. Gu walked back to the bedside of Gu’s father, "Old Gu..."
Gu’s father glared at her fiercely, "If you keep being so reckless and slip a word, no one can save us!"
Mrs. Gu was very dissatisfied, "It’s not like I meant to say it. Gu Yan is so detestable! I just can’t stand her no matter what, don’t be fooled by her exterior, who knows what kind of person she is inside!"
"You’re still saying bad things about her! If it weren’t for us back then, would she be like this now? We adopted her to lessen our sins and guilt, yet you treat her harshly, often hitting and scolding her! But what about her? Not only does she not hold a grudge, but she also dropped out of school to work and support us for so many years. Which time did you ask her for money and she didn’t give it to you? And when have you given her even a few bucks? I always thought you were just a bit harsh, but I didn’t expect you to be heartless. Gu Yan’s kindness to us, are you blind to it?
We’ve owed her so much, and she still tries every way to gather my medical expenses. If you dare speak ill of her again, don’t blame me for being ruthless!"
Mrs. Gu’s complexion worsened by Gu’s father’s words, "What do you mean we caused this? It has nothing to do with us! Giving her a place to stay was generous enough. Even tenants pay rent, so what’s wrong with her giving me money? It’s what she owes us!"
"Nonsense! Who treats tenants like you do? Always yelling or scolding, and if it’s about rent, with our small house, renting it out for a year wouldn’t earn much, while what Gu Yan has given you over the years is enough to buy that shabby house! She doesn’t give you money out of obligation, but out of compassion!"
Gu’s father’s words left Mrs. Gu unable to refute and she could only glare at him harshly, "You’re always siding with her. She’s just a little vixen! Even seducing her adoptive father! Where do you think she got that million from? She must have done something shady!"
"Shut up! Are you trying to anger me to death? No matter how she got the money, it was all for me. Without her, would you have gotten the surgery money? Without her, I’d be a dead man now! Whether you choose to acknowledge her kindness or not, she’s my daughter to me!"
Mrs. Gu had nothing to say, but always felt that no matter if Gu Yan gave money to her or saved Gu’s father, it was her duty!
It’s truly unknown how such a mindset developed, making her feel it was all justified. No matter how Gu’s father argued, it never got through. She never felt she was in the wrong.
Outside the hospital, Gu Yan stood by the road and took out her phone to call Xue Xianglan.
From a hidden corner, a camera took several pictures of her, then vanished. Gu Yan remained completely unaware.
The call connected, and Xue Xianglan’s voice sounded lazy and groggy, as if she hadn’t woken up.
Gu Yan asked curiously, "What did you do last night? Why are you still sleeping?"
"I watched movies through the night, just got to sleep less than five hours ago."
Gu Yan was speechless, "You’re amazing."
But she seemed to forget that she too had stayed up late waiting for a man in someone else’s bed last night, maybe until around four in the morning.
"What’s up, anything going on?"
"Not much, I have a day off today, so I wanted to ask you out."
"Hmm? I see, so where should I meet you?"
"Maybe not, you sound so tired, sleep a bit longer, come out after you’re rested."
"No worries, I’ve been woken up anyway, can’t sleep during the day now, just tell me the place, I’ll come to find you."
"Alright then, let’s go to Central Square for some shopping. I haven’t relaxed in a while. Even if I don’t buy anything, I still want to wander around."
"Alright, wait for me."
