Old Master Lu fell ill after being angered by He Yunting.
Su He was very worried and wanted to send the old man for a full body check-up, but he stubbornly refused.
"I'd rather die at home than stay in a hospital," Old Master Lu was a stubborn man, and once his temper flared, no amount of persuasion would work.
Lu Yanbei had no choice but to invite a family doctor.
"The old man's heart is not good to begin with, and he has high blood pressure. His condition has not been well-controlled recently, and all his indicators are abnormal," after a thorough examination, the doctor reported the data truthfully. "In this situation, it's best to be hospitalized for observation for a period of time."
"It's not that I don't want to send him to the hospital, it's just that I can't persuade him," Lu Yanbei rubbed his temples, his head aching.
The doctor had experienced the old man's temper and knew they were in a difficult situation. "How about sending him to a nursing home? The environment there is better, and there are dedicated caregivers."
"Also, the old man has symptoms of loneliness. There are many elderly people of similar age there, and he might find companions to talk to."
Lu Yanbei pursed his lips, feeling guilty.
As people age, they truly need companionship. No wonder he was so busy with work that he neglected his grandfather's needs. Although they returned every weekend to eat and walk with the elder, it was still too little companionship.
He had been raised by the old man, and the grandfather-grandson relationship was extraordinary. Seeing his grandfather suffer from illness, Lu Yanbei felt deeply remorseful.
"I will try my best to persuade him."
"The elderly are like children, they need to be coaxed," the doctor offered advice. "I think the young mistress is quite good at it. Why not let her try?"
At this moment, Su He was coaxing the old man to take his medicine.
"This medicine is too bitter, I won't take it!" The old man lay in bed, turning his head away, truly throwing a childish tantrum.
"If you don't take your medicine, how can you get better?" Su He was amused and exasperated. "How about this, you take the medicine first, and I'll make you some sweets later?"
Upon hearing about delicious food, the old man hesitated.
However, he still stubbornly said, "Don't try to trick me! After I take the medicine, you'll definitely go back on your word and say that old people shouldn't eat too many sweets, hmph!"
"Grandpa, do you trust me that little?" Su He put on a sad expression. "When have I ever gone back on my word!"
"You'll really make me sweets?" Old Master Lu, seeing her confident promise, finally began to relent.
"I promise," Su He patted her chest. "I've learned a few new pastries recently. As long as you eat this, I'll go to the kitchen and make them right away!"
"Pinky promise," the old man hesitated for a moment, then extended his finger towards her.
Su He smiled, hooked his little finger, and asked, "Can I take the medicine now?"
Old Master Lu nodded, and with the warm water she offered, he swallowed the handful of pills with a gulp.
After taking the medicine, Su He indeed kept her promise and went to the kitchen to bake several kinds of desserts.
However, while he ate, the quantity was still controlled.
After the old man finished the third one and reached out again, Su He moved the plate away. "That's enough for today. If you want more, you can have it tomorrow!"
The old man smacked his lips. "I'm not full yet!"
"It's almost time for dinner. These are snacks and cannot replace a proper meal," Su He was a person of principle and would not easily relax her requirements.
"Then, after dinner, will there be a reward?" The old man licked his fingers, still unsatisfied.
His granddaughter-in-law's cooking was getting better and better, and he hadn't had enough.
Su He thought for a moment and said, "We'll see how you do."
"I still have to see how I do?"
"Yes, if you eat one more bowl, you'll get one more snack," Su He bargained with him.
In the end, the old man had to suppress his unfulfilled appetite and leave the dining room with longing eyes.
After Su He coaxed the old man to sleep, she returned to her and Lu Yanbei's room, rubbing her sore arms.
For the past few days, because of the old man's presence, they had been living here and had not returned to their own small home.
"Grandpa's asleep?" Lu Yanbei came out after showering, his hair still damp. Without his glasses, he looked less refined and exceptionally sexy.
Su He responded lazily, tired and sprawled on the bed. "An old child, an old child. He really acts more like a child as he gets older. He's so hard to coax..."
"You've worked hard!" Lu Yanbei affectionately stepped forward and began to massage her shoulders.
"However, after much coaxing and persuasion, Grandpa has finally agreed to go to the nursing home to recuperate," Su He's eyes sparkled, feeling a great sense of accomplishment talking about it.
She had accomplished what Lu Yanbei couldn't, didn't that make her seem very capable?
Lu Yanbei kissed her cheek approvingly. "How did you manage it?"
"A combination of coaxing and tricking!" Su He closed her eyes contentedly. "I told Grandpa that as long as he's willing to go to the nursing home, I'll make him delicious food every day!"
"Won't that be very tiring?" Lu Yanbei couldn't bear for her to run back and forth every day.
"This little bit of hardship is nothing! As long as Grandpa is healthy, it's worth it!" Su He said softly, holding his hand. She knew Lu Yanbei worked hard managing the entire Lu Corporation, so she wanted to share some of the burden.
This seemed to be all she could do.
Take good care of the family, so that he has no worries and can dedicate himself wholeheartedly to his career.
"As the saying goes, an elder at home is a treasure. Grandpa is the best grandfather in the world, and I naturally hope he lives a long and healthy life."
"I promised him earlier that I would give him a great-grandchild as soon as possible, and we can't break our word..."
Su He said, reaching out to touch her still flat stomach. "Tell me, when can we have a child..."
As Su He spoke, she yawned.
Taking care of the elderly was not as easy as she made it sound.
Lu Yanbei knew she was tired, so he didn't bother her further. He held her as she slept on the pillow and pulled the covers up for her. "Sleep, your wish will come true."
The next day, Su He and Lu Yanbei, as they had hoped, sent the old man to the best nursing home in City B.
Upon entering, the old man was captivated by the environment and happily wandered around. What's more, he saw several old acquaintances there, which made him even less likely to demand to go home.
The old fellows had endless conversations when they met, leaving Su He and Lu Yanbei completely ignored.
Su He tidied up the bed for the old man and, seeing how quickly he integrated into the life there, felt both relieved and a little sad.
"Grandpa will like it here," Lu Yanbei put his arm around her shoulders and comforted her. "When the baby is born, if he wishes, he can come and live with us. If he likes it here, we can bring the child to visit him every week."
Su He squeezed his hand in return, remaining silent.
She should have considered these things earlier, instead of realizing it only when she was close to losing him.
