Chapter 1050: Chapter 1041: Celebrating the New Year (5)

"Siyu." Xia Youbiao called out to her from behind. Xia Siyu had just turned around; hearing his voice made her freeze instantly, but she didn’t turn back.

"It’s nothing." Xia Youbiao had been quite emotional at first, thinking that Xia Siyu had come down because she thought he had fallen. But when he saw the cold look in her eyes, he suddenly couldn’t find the right words to say.

"Then, I’ll go." Just as Xia Siyu was about to move her feet, Bo Yan, who had been standing quietly on the side, suddenly smiled and said, "Dad, would you like to come up with us?"

Xia Siyu turned back and glared at Bo Yan. Although she and Bo Yan were already very close, and she had gradually started to open up about what was on her mind, she was not used to having Bo Yan make decisions for her, especially when it came to matters involving her family.

"Uh... this..." Xia Youbiao glanced at his daughter, but she still didn’t look back. Hesitant, he asked, "Would I be intruding on you two?"

Bo Yan simply smiled and said, "You haven’t had dinner yet, have you? Join us for New Year’s Eve dinner."

This caught Xia Siyu off guard. She had originally thought that Xia Youbiao might have stayed at the Bo Family’s home to have New Year’s Eve dinner with Mrs. Tong and Xia Sicai or that he might have returned to the Xia Family to have a reunion dinner with his brothers and cousins. Whichever the option, she hated them both equally.

She hadn’t expected that Xia Youbiao hadn’t even had time to eat dinner. In fact, he had followed them out not long after they had left. The reason he arrived so late was that it had just snowed, there had been a traffic accident on the road, and the traffic was congested.

Bo Yan had figured this out for two reasons: first, he had just seen the news; second, Xia Youbiao didn’t carry the scent of food or alcohol on him from having dinner earlier.

Xia Siyu, on the other hand, hadn’t noticed these details because her emotions had clouded her thinking. Now, knowing her father hadn’t joined those detestable people for a reunion dinner and considering how cold the weather was, she started to soften a little inside.

But she still said nothing and didn’t look back.

Xia Youbiao glanced at his daughter. Of course, he wanted to spend more time with her. But he also understood her personality—sometimes, trying too hard to get close would just backfire. Over the years, their father-daughter relationship had nearly disintegrated, and Xia Siyu had almost cut off all ties with him. He wasn’t sure how to handle her emotions. So, he turned his gaze to Bo Yan.

Bo Yan didn’t say anything, merely smiled.

Xia Youbiao nodded and said, "Alright."

As soon as he said this, Xia Siyu lifted her foot and walked ahead. Although she didn’t seem particularly welcoming, she also didn’t object.

Xia Youbiao instructed his driver to take a break before following Bo Yan upstairs. The three of them squeezed into the elevator together, forming a sort of "triangle," each occupying a corner of the cramped space, independent of one another and not interfering.

Once upstairs, Xia Siyu was the first to step out of the elevator. She was boiling water and hadn’t yet started cooking the dumplings, so she headed straight into the kitchen. Bo Yan invited Xia Youbiao in and set the table: "It’s just dumplings tonight."

"Dumplings are perfect. Dumplings, exchanging prosperity as we eat," Xia Youbiao said with a smile.

Truthfully, as long as he could eat with Xia Siyu, everything tasted great.

It wasn’t until the dumplings were fully cooked that Xia Siyu called out curtly to Bo Yan: "Come bring them out."

Bo Yan immediately went over with a smile and carried out plate after plate of dumplings. He laughed and said, "Dad, I wasn’t sure what flavors you like, so you’ll have to mix your own dipping sauce. The condiments are all in the kitchen."

"Ah, sure, sure!" Xia Youbiao nodded quickly and went to prepare. While they started eating, Bo Yan added with a smile, "Siyu made these dumplings."

Surprised, Xia Youbiao exclaimed, "Siyu made these?" His face lit up with pride.

Xia Siyu replied indifferently, "I learned it from my mom."
