Chapter 202: Chapter 202: You’ve Got the Wrong Person
It was a middle-aged man wearing ordinary casual clothes, his hair slicked back.
The middle-aged man glanced at their attire, immediately deducing that their identities were not simple.
His eyes widened in panic for a moment, and he hurriedly tried to close the door again.
James Grant casually had both hands in his pockets, stretched out his long leg, and kicked the door open without hesitation.
The middle-aged man nearly fell, looking in surprised panic at the man who walked straight in. The man was dressed in a suit that exuded an aura of unapproachable austerity and sinister coldness.
"Hello."
Evelyn Clayton was much more polite than a certain someone.
She stepped over the threshold, bent slightly, her cool and elegant eyes gleaming.
Just one look made the man’s mind go blank, and he absentmindedly closed the door, demanding, "Who are you? Trespassing is against the law!"
"Summer Monroe’s contract assistant, Jacob Ford, the person responsible for the collaboration between the Monroe Family and the Grant Family, that’s you, right?"
James Grant stood nonchalantly, one leg forward, looking down with lowered eyes.
His tousled hair covered his eyes as he slowly rotated the silver ring on his left ring finger.
The middle-aged man realized the other party knew all about him.
His gaze turned cold as he warily looked at them, "What do you want?"
"Mr. Ford, don’t be nervous. We just want to understand some things, we won’t harm you."
Evelyn Clayton softened her tone, her expression gentle.
Beside her, James Grant’s eyes were half-narrowed, eyelids lowered.
Jacob Ford still wanted to hide: "You’ve got the wrong person..."
James Grant shot a piercingly cold look over, his thin lips tightly pressed, uttering some chilling syllables: "Speak the truth, or face the consequences."
Each word was like a dagger over his head, forcing Jacob Ford to swallow back his concealment.
He swallowed hard in fear, his eyes flustered.
Evelyn Clayton noticed his hesitation.
"Rest assured, everything we discuss today will be forgotten after tomorrow, no one else will know, so you can speak freely."
The more Jacob Ford hesitated, her intuition told her that something was amiss, and there were certainly huge secrets hidden within.
Watching as Jacob Ford was threatened by James Grant, he steeled himself, clenched his teeth, and spoke out.
"Back then, I was the person responsible for the Monroe Family, but in truth, I didn’t do much. I only know about those major projects, the ones with huge funds; I didn’t handle them. They were just labeled nominally as Monroe Family projects, but it was actually the Monroe Family directly transferring money to the Grant Family, amounts as high as 200 million."
Evelyn Clayton was shocked after hearing this, the largest project contracts were all façades!
The Monroe Family directly transferred 200 million to the Grant Family, but why?
James Grant’s eyes narrowed dangerously, surprise in his gaze.
Having been with the Grant Family for so many years, he only knew the Grant and Monroe Families were on good terms, but didn’t know that in secret, the Monroe Family used the guise of collaboration to funnel such massive amounts of money to Harrison Grant.
"Alright, alright, that’s all I know, you need to leave now!"
Jacob Ford waved to drive them out, afraid of being seen and getting into trouble.
The wooden door slammed shut.
Evelyn Clayton and James Grant stood at the doorway.
A gust of wind blew through the alley, lifting her skirt and hair, her hair brushing against her delicate face.
James Grant turned to look at her, a slight daze in his eyes.
"So, Harrison Grant wasn’t sick at all, it was Summer Monroe who was? Harrison Grant took the money, pretended to be ill without reason, helped Summer Monroe find blood, and then came to me."
She finished her conjecture, and there was no response from the person next to her.
Turning her head, she found James Grant staring at her with a bare gaze, his eyes full of deep meaning and unfathomable depth.
