Chapter 468: Chapter 468: Not Playing the Driver
Lynn agreed cheerfully, "Sure."
The three of them hit it off immediately and were ready to leave, leaving the remaining three men somewhat dumbfounded.
What they thought was a simple dinner party had somehow been turned into an unexpected collaboration by Evelyn?
"Hey, are you just leaving like this?" Keith rushed to stand up.
Lynn glanced at him, "Yeah, you guys can just hang out."
As she spoke, Lynn shared a playful glance with Evelyn, conversing softly as they headed out.
Yara casually waved to the three men with varied expressions, "You guys pick up the tab, we’re not going to stick around."
Keith was struck dumb, frantically signaling James.
The ultimate goal of inviting Evelyn out today hadn’t been achieved yet!
And he hadn’t had a chance to say more to Lynn!
James received Keith’s signal, stood up decisively, picked up his coat, and quickly walked over to Evelyn’s side.
He seemed to casually say, "It’s late, let me give you a ride."
Keith was speechless, exchanging a glance with Tristan.
Tristan struggled hard to hold his laughter, only speaking leisurely after the others had left, "Alright, let them find their own fate, no need for you to act as a matchmaker."
"What are you saying? Am I trying to be a matchmaker? I’m doing it for myself, too! With James and Lynn’s relationship neither here nor there, how am I supposed to pursue her?"
Tristan feigned ignorance, "Who are you pursuing, James?"
Keith almost punched him, "Nonsense! I’m talking about Lynn."
"Who’s to blame for that, you just need to step up your game," Tristan chuckled, "Look at James; he’s already going to be the chauffeur?"
James, the chauffeur, was in the driver’s seat, belatedly feeling awkward.
Evelyn was in the passenger seat; Yara and Lynn sat in the back, silent for a while.
James cleared his throat, "Where to?"
"Let’s go to The Southside Club, I’m a member there." Lynn couldn’t help but find it amusing but restrained herself from laughing out loud, feeling she was being rather generous.
James drove out of the parking lot.
The quiet during the ride suddenly made James feel that giving them a ride wasn’t the best idea.
Fortunately, The Southside Club wasn’t far away; a twenty-minute drive led them there soon enough.
Getting out of the car, Lynn smiled knowingly and said, "Evelyn, thank the driver for us, Yara and I will head inside first."
Yara was a bit reluctant but, for Lynn’s sake, forced a small smile and left with Lynn first.
In the vast parking lot, only James and Evelyn were left.
"Thank you," Evelyn’s hanging hand tightened slightly, "Sorry you had to make another trip."
James’s eyes moved slightly as he stared at Evelyn, "It’s no problem."
Evelyn nodded, sensing there wasn’t much else to say, and turned to leave.
Yet after only a few steps, she suddenly stopped in her tracks.
The turmoil in her chest made Evelyn feel that she had to clear something up.
So she suddenly turned and saw James still standing there, looking at her with an inscrutable gaze.
Their eyes met, and Evelyn unexpectedly felt uneasy.
She stayed frozen, not moving forward, just meeting James’s gaze, then slowly uttered, "There’s something I’ve never understood."
James’s Adam’s apple shifted, "What is it?"
Evelyn took a deep breath, choosing her words carefully.
After a long while, she slowly began.
"Why did you suddenly leave that night in Y Province?"
