Chapter 220: No Need to Explain

Chapter 220: Chapter 220: No Need to Explain

"Dad, don’t let this upset you. Since my elder brother doesn’t have any ideas, I’ll take over."

Hearing Jasper agree, Harrison Grant finally calmed down and gave Matthew Sullivan a cold glance.

"Learn well! If you don’t do it properly, you’re out of the Grant Family!"

With that said, he left, supported by Jasper.

Matthew was left standing stiffly in place, his face deeply sullen and embarrassed.

But he was helpless; as an illegitimate child brought back by Harrison Grant, he was now publicly humiliated and scolded by him, feeling as if life itself had become unbearable.

The person leaning by the door hadn’t left yet. Evelyn Clayton gave him a meaningful look.

Standing with his hands down, exuding an air of arrogance, further suppressed Matthew.

Understanding the meaning in her eyes, James Grant concealed a barely noticeable cold smile and then shrugged, slowly walking away.

When no one else approached, Evelyn Clayton stepped forward, feigning a gentle voice to comfort him.

"Uncle Grant was just furious and said things in anger, don’t mind it."

"He obviously has disliked me for a long time, just seizing an opportunity to embarrass me!"

The malice in Matthew Sullivan’s eyes was evident.

Evelyn pretended not to see it, her fox-like eyes charming and teasing, with her small mouth slightly upturned.

"Don’t think like that, Uncle Grant is doing this for your own good."

"Ridiculous!"

Matthew, angry and no longer holding back, retorted.

"Someone is definitely sabotaging me from behind! The goods were fine when delivered, how could something go wrong immediately? It must be James Grant, he’s framing me!"

Hearing this, a subtle chill flickered in Evelyn’s eyes.

Before she could say anything, Matthew suddenly looked at her, eyes pleading.

"Evelyn, why don’t you help me talk to Dad and plead for me, get the project back? He likes you so much, he surely wouldn’t trouble you!"

Using her as a shield?

Evelyn’s eyes squinted slightly, "Matthew Sullivan, are you trying to push me out just for your career?"

Seeing her unwilling expression, Matthew was only focused on himself, sweating anxiously.

"Evelyn, I’m not, just asking you to plead with my dad; he won’t make things hard for you!"

Evelyn curled her lips into a cold smile: "Matthew Sullivan, I used to think you just lacked capability, but I didn’t expect you to be such a coward. Harrison Grant made the right decision not to give you the project. From now on, let’s draw a clear line."

With that said, Evelyn gave him one last cold look and turned away.

Seeing her turn against him so ruthlessly, Matthew panicked and caught her arm.

She detested it, violently shaking him off and slapped his face hard—

The sound was exceptionally loud and clear, leaving Matthew stunned.

The office door opened, and people outside heard the commotion, eagerly stretching their necks to watch the drama unfold.

"Don’t touch me."

Evelyn was utterly disgusted, leaving without any hesitation.

Outside, people started gossiping.

"Did you see? As soon as Matthew Sullivan was removed by Director Grant, that woman immediately turned her back on him, what a gold-digger!"

"Exactly, she was with Matthew for money, doesn’t she find it disgusting."

"When James Grant lost power, she immediately dumped him, now Matthew is dethroned, and she pulls the same tricks, I can’t match that kind of tactic."

Evelyn heard all the bits and pieces of the gossip,

but her downcast eyes remained unruffled as if the words were nothing but a breeze.

One mouth cannot compete with a thousand mouths; even if false, it can be twisted and said to be true.

She saw no need, nor did she have the motivation to explain.
