Chapter 278: Chapter 278: What, Unhappy?
James Grant has always been caustic, often using words to completely dismantle his opponent. Evelyn Clayton had been aware of this all along.
But she never imagined that one day he would turn such venom on her.
The two of them had had disagreements before, but James Grant had never been so harsh in his words.
At most, he had remained silent, at most, he had been cold to her.
On the side, Amber Whitman looked quite pleased with herself.
She loved watching Evelyn Clayton suffer!
That smug look was more irritating to Iris Lockwood than getting sand in her eyes.
How could she twist things and still think she was right?
"Miss Whitman, what’s that on your clothes? Where did you get that smudge?"
Iris Lockwood’s eyes moved slightly, a bit of surprise flitting across her face, as she reached toward Amber Whitman’s waist, seeming to want to brush it off for her.
"Where?"
Amber Whitman was stunned for a moment and looked down.
There was nothing?
"Right here... Oh!" The next second, Iris Lockwood tripped over something and fell forward.
In her panic, she accidentally grabbed Amber Whitman’s dress.
Screech—
The sound of fabric tearing echoed.
Amber Whitman’s face changed.
In front of everyone, a big hole had ripped open in her dress.
Thankfully, the dress had multiple layers of linings and tulle, or she would have been completely exposed!
"You, you!" It took her a good five or six seconds to react, and she was livid,
Her finger pointed at Iris Lockwood, so furious she couldn’t even form a complete sentence, "You did that on purpose!"
James Grant and Lynn Yates also had complicated expressions.
Though it was indeed possible she did it on purpose, without any evidence, no one could rashly pin the blame on Iris Lockwood.
Amber Whitman stomped her foot angrily, flushed red, and turned around to rush back to the dressing room.
Iris Lockwood was helped up by Evelyn Clayton, but her knees were bruised and swollen from the fall just now.
Walking, even just standing, was a bit shaky.
But she didn’t regret it!
"Miss Clayton, thank you for attending my engagement ceremony with James Grant." Lynn Yates looked at Evelyn Clayton’s expressionless face, knowing she must be feeling awful at this moment.
After hesitating for a moment, Lynn Yates smiled at her cautiously and spoke up.
"James and I have many business collaborations, and many things aren’t as simple as they seem."
She really wanted to tell Evelyn Clayton that she and James Grant were just in a marriage of convenience.
But she couldn’t say it and could only hint.
"Alright, let’s go meet Mr. Lee and the others." James Grant interrupted, giving Lynn Yates a complex look before leading her away, not allowing any dissent.
Lynn Yates hesitated, wanting to stay and explain more to Evelyn Clayton.
Yet, feeling the gloomy aura emanating from James Grant, she followed along.
She wasn’t sure if Evelyn Clayton would understand...
Inside a private room at the side of the hall, James Grant sat alone on the sofa, with no sign of Lynn Yates.
After dealing with the engagement ceremony, he just wanted some peace and quiet.
While walking down the aisle with Lynn Yates, his eyes remained fixed on Evelyn Clayton.
He hoped to catch a glimpse of some emotion from her expressions, but there was nothing.
An irritable feeling surged in his chest.
Knock, knock, knock.
The sound of knocking resonated, followed by Summer Monroe appearing before James Grant with a smile, holding two glasses of red wine and full of charm.
"I knew you’d be here." She looked at James Grant, her gaze almost unable to leave the tall and handsome man before her.
"So, aren’t you happy marrying Lynn Yates?"
As she spoke, she handed one of the glasses of red wine to James Grant, her words laden with deeper meaning.
