Chapter 423: Chapter 423: You’d Better Not Chicken Out
The rain outside was getting heavier and heavier. Evelyn Clayton bought an umbrella from the hotel, as if the sky had been pierced with a hole, pouring down rain in the pitch black darkness.
In this kind of weather, catching a taxi seemed like a luxury. Evelyn Clayton walked along the road, gradually becoming irritated.
Soon, a black car stopped in front of her.
The car window rolled down, revealing the face of a simple-hearted man, who asked with a smile, "Miss, where are you going? I’m cheap."
Evelyn Clayton was slightly on guard, taking a step back, "No need, I’m getting a taxi."
However, just as she finished speaking, the door of the backseat of the black car suddenly opened.
John Jacobs’ fierce face emerged, snatching the umbrella from Evelyn Clayton’s hand.
Evelyn Clayton’s scream was muffled, and like a mad beast, John Jacobs dragged her into the car.
"John Jacobs, you’re insane—"
Evelyn Clayton was a mix of shock and anger. The next second, a pain hit the back of her neck, and her world spun.
The man looked at Evelyn Clayton collapsed on the car seat, wiped the rain from his face, with panic flashing across the fleshy face in the night.
John Jacobs dared not hesitate, swiftly moving Evelyn Clayton’s luggage into the car as well, then glanced around and hurriedly jumped into the car.
"Quickly, go!" John Jacobs ordered the driver gruffly.
The driver’s face whitened slightly, his hands trembling as he started the car.
During the turn, the driver glanced at the rear-view mirror, speaking in a shaky voice, "Brother John, do we really have to do this? You won’t kill this woman, will you?"
"Enough with the nonsense!" John Jacobs gasped, rolling his eyes, "Do you know how much this woman is worth? I’m already a fugitive, might as well make a big one! Then we’ll find a way to go abroad, everything will be calm and peaceful!"
Dreaming of his beautiful future, a gleam burst from John Jacobs’ bean-sized eyes.
The car drove to an abandoned factory in the suburbs, where the pouring rain beat against the steel-built building, making crackling sounds, especially unsettling in the night.
John Jacobs carried the unconscious woman down, into a small operation room inside the factory, tying her securely with hemp rope.
The driver watched nearby, using his phone for light, his legs trembling like sifting bran, "Brother John... This is really illegal—"
John Jacobs tied a dead knot on the rope, straightened up, glaring fiercely at the driver.
"Do you still want money? Have you forgotten your wife is lying in the hospital? Leukemia, even robbing a bank won’t be enough!" John Jacobs snorted coldly, kicking the woman’s leg, "Do you know how much the person who hired me to kidnap her is paying me?"
The driver asked shakily, "How, how much?"
John Jacobs gestured with his fingers, and the driver’s mouth dropped open in shock, "T-Ten thousand? Or a million..."
"Ten million!"
John Jacobs sneered, as if mocking the driver’s short-sightedness, "I’ve got five million already, as soon as the other five million arrives, and then extort a sum from this woman’s lover, we’ll split the money, won’t we both be millionaires?!"
However, hearing this, the driver’s face turned even paler.
"Brother, ten million... What are the people who paid you after? They can’t just want to teach her a lesson... Could it be—"
A fierce light flashed in John Jacobs’ eyes, scaring the man into silence.
After a while, John Jacobs slowly exhaled, resting his hand on the man’s shoulder.
"Don’t worry, I said I’d give you money, so I definitely will." John Jacobs’ voice was haunting, "This is our only chance to get rich, don’t wimp out."
The driver swallowed, nodding his head.
John Jacobs asked for the car keys, turning to walk outside.
"Alright, I’m going to deal with the car outside, to prevent anyone from following us. Stay here and watch things, wait for me to return."
He turned and walked out, his footsteps growing fainter.
On the ground, the tied-up Evelyn Clayton slowly opened her eyes, revealing a glint in them.
