Chapter 397: Chapter 397: On-Site Inspection
Evelyn Clayton was momentarily stunned.
If that’s the case, then she didn’t know.
"Well, that’s got nothing to do with us," Evelyn forcefully changed the subject, "Alright, let’s talk about business. Which of those factories do you like?"
Yara Reagan switched to a serious tone, came to Evelyn’s side, and showed her the factories she had marked out.
"Vanreid Factory originally produced clothing, and they supplied goods to the south. It’s one of the most recently equipped factories in the country. I heard the original owner went abroad, and the domestic factory was sold to a local small-time boss. It’s suffered significant losses every two years and is now up for sale. If we go for it, it should be easy to acquire."
Evelyn calmed down and carefully examined it before praising, "Nice judgment, it’s indeed very suitable."
Yara chuckled, "Of course. So, should I have Rhys contact them?"
Evelyn nodded.
Suddenly recalling something, Evelyn frowned and asked, "Has Julia Lawrence not come to work for two days?"
Yara was taken aback, "Oh, yes. She said there’s some issue at home she needs to handle."
Remembering what Old Wang mentioned about Julia’s family situation, Evelyn pondered for a moment and said, "When you have time, ask Old Wang to offer some support, see if there are any difficulties, and help her with whatever can be resolved. This can’t go on; she can’t keep taking leave."
"Alright!"
Rhys Jacobs, known for his efficiency, quickly made contact with the current owner of Vanreid Factory.
The owner was a middle-aged man. Upon learning that a fashion design company wanted to buy the factory, he was quite pleased and immediately invited Evelyn and Yara to visit the factory for an on-site inspection.
Vanreid is located in the suburb not far from the city, quite close to their place, Ly. So Evelyn and Yara took some time to visit.
The owner’s surname, like Rhys’s, was Jacobs, named John Jacobs. He was somewhat sly but very enthusiastic and accommodating. After Evelyn and Yara visited the factory and talked with John, they were satisfied and quickly signed the acquisition contract, paying a twenty percent deposit.
However, something went wrong the day after paying the deposit.
Early the next morning, while Evelyn was on her way to Gem, Rhys called.
"The workers at Vanreid are in an uproar. They’re all former factory workers. Upon learning about the factory’s acquisition, they’re afraid of being laid off and are now gathering at the factory to cause trouble."
Rhys’s voice was grave, and Evelyn felt a pang in her heart, quickly asking, "What about John Jacobs?"
To her surprise, Rhys sighed heavily, his tone even more serious, "John Jacobs is currently unreachable."
Evelyn’s heart thumped hard.
She pressed the gas pedal hard, driving almost on the verge of speeding, reaching the company in ten minutes.
Yara was already gathering everyone for a meeting. Upon seeing Evelyn, she quickly explained the situation.
"I couldn’t get through to John Jacobs. I also contacted Violet Ford, and she was shocked too. She’s looking for people," Yara’s expression had never been so solemn, "Should we call the police?"
Evelyn made an immediate decision, "No, don’t push people to the edge. Rhys, come with me to the factory to calm the workers."
Rhys instantly agreed, "Okay."
"Yara, head over to our factory and see how many people we can accommodate there. We’ll rearrange jobs for Vanreid’s employees!"
Evelyn spoke firmly, but Yara hesitated a bit.
"Even if we can accommodate them, we can’t keep them all, right? There’s only so much work at the factory. Are we going to hire them to do nothing?"
Evelyn looked at her with a steady gaze, "Don’t worry, I have a plan. Just do as I said, and after coordinating things at Ly, come to Vanreid to find me."
Seeing this, Yara had no choice but to nod.
After settling everything, Evelyn and Rhys set off for Vanreid together.
