Chapter 400: Chapter 400: Leave It to Me
After finishing her words, Evelyn Clayton slightly bowed to the employees, exuding extreme sincerity.
The commotion gradually calmed down. Evelyn Clayton looked up at the banner man, with a thoughtful look in her eyes.
This man seemed like just an ordinary worker, yet anyone with a discerning eye could see that he had strong influence in the factory.
Someone like him could stay, but should not be easily used for personal gain.
"Alright, if any of you have decided, please register with my assistant Rhys Jacobs! Within three days, I will fulfill all your requests."
After Evelyn Clayton finished speaking, she looked at the banner man, "Could you please step outside with me."
The man hesitated slightly, then slowly followed Evelyn Clayton outside.
Outside, Yara Reagan and Rhys Jacobs had just heard what Evelyn Clayton said inside. Yara Reagan was visibly upset, glaring angrily at Evelyn Clayton.
Rhys Jacobs went inside voluntarily to register the workers. Evelyn Clayton led the man to the other side of the factory’s gate.
She took out a pack of cigarettes, handed one to the man, and indifferently lit her lighter.
The man appeared somewhat flattered, yet eventually took the cigarette and lit it himself, then awkwardly thanked her.
Evelyn Clayton chuckled, "No need for formalities. May I ask your surname?"
"Uh, my humble surname is Young, Jim Young."
The man did not appear as fierce and dominating as before, showing a mix of confusion and anxiety on his wear-lined face.
Evelyn Clayton lightly laughed, "Brother Jim, I see you have quite an influence at Vanreid, yet you are just an ordinary assembly line worker. Seems your reputation is quite high."
Jim Young rubbed his nose, gently coughed, "Well, my parents used to work at Vanreid. Back in the day, when Vanreid was a state-owned enterprise, it produced those old-fashioned printed fabrics. My parents were senior workers back then."
Evelyn Clayton’s eyes brightened, "Old-fashioned printed fabrics? Are there still some left?"
Not knowing why Evelyn Clayton suddenly asked about this, Jim Young was puzzled but pointed to the warehouse opposite the factory, "There are some left there, though they’re quite old now."
Evelyn Clayton’s heart surged with excitement that was hard to express.
Old-fashioned printed fabrics were generally of high quality, so she felt like she had struck gold.
Suppressing her excitement, Evelyn Clayton returned to the main topic, smiling lightly, "Since Brother Jim is a veteran worker here, there is something I might need your help with."
Jim Young looked doubtful, "What is it?"
"I noticed that quite a few people at Vanreid still want to keep their jobs. However, taking them to my factory is just a temporary solution. If Vanreid reopens in the future, I hope they can return to work here. But before that, I need to settle accounts with John Jacobs and Vanreid, which might result in Vanreid closing for a while. If you can stay here and help oversee the factory, I would be truly grateful."
Jim Young could hardly believe his ears, "Do you mean I can continue staying at Vanreid?"
Evelyn Clayton nodded with a smile, "That’s right. During this period, I will pay you your original salary, and a new contract will be signed. You just need to keep an eye on Vanreid and wait for the workers to return home."
Feeling truly moved, Jim Young was choked up, then nodded vigorously, "Director Clayton, of course, I am willing! I, I am really... so thankful!"
The man’s face turned red, not knowing what else to say.
Evelyn Clayton laughed gently, "It’s I who should thank you. You helping oversee Vanreid gives the workers peace of mind, allowing them to endure this period, which lightens my burden."
With these words, Jim Young was utterly invigorated.
"Don’t worry! I’ll handle those folks!"
