Chapter 591 Dust to Dust

That Soviet submarine commander's movement seemed like a starting signal. The other Allied soldiers around him, after checking their physical condition, made the same strange movements. They waved their twisted, swollen arms, swaying their bodies silently. Hao Ren was stunned for a moment before realizing what was happening: they were indeed cheering, celebrating their final escape from the control of that nightmare.

But they couldn't speak, because everyone's vocal cords had already stiffened, and they didn't yet know how to use other powers to make sounds.

"Uh... you guys seem pretty happy," Hao Ren said with a stiff smile. "So, um, you can understand what I'm saying, right?"

One of the submarine sailors clumsily gestured, and Hao Ren immediately knew that the other party understood his meaning, and that they had fully regained their senses. Vivian watched this scene in disbelief, suddenly realizing that this was an unexpected and huge gain: "Wait, so you remember what happened when you were under magical control?"

The submarine commander nodded, silently making an angry gesture.

Hao Ren picked up the conversation: "So you saw what we were doing here just now? You just couldn't move at the time?"

The submarine commander nodded again, and if Hao Ren understood correctly, he used a stiff posture to express his gratitude to everyone.

"It's too much trouble to communicate like this," Vivian turned her head. "Who knows more about necromancy? Can someone translate what's in their heads?"

At this moment, Tu Tan suddenly stepped forward: "I am proficient in necromancy and several major human languages. These undead should be similar to ordinary undead. I can try."

"Uh, I almost forgot you were here since you haven't been talking," Hao Ren scratched his hair awkwardly. "Then you can try, but you'd better hurry. We've made quite a commotion, and the sentinels will come at any time."

Tu Tan nodded and began to chant an ancient and strange incantation in front of the Allied sailors. Some black patterns gradually appeared around his eyes. These patterns depicted the dark parts of the cycle of life. Then he raised his head and took half a step back: "It's ready. I will be the bridge for your communication. Ask any questions you have."

Vivian immediately threw out the first question: "The situation of the Siren Queen, and the situation of the palace area..."

Hao Ren didn't have much hope for these answers at first, but soon he realized why Vivian thought these undead held the key to entering the palace area: these Allied sailors knew far more about Nathaton than everyone imagined, because they were the most unlikely to betray "loyal workers" in the entire city, pawns that were easier to control than those sirens who were struggling to resist at any time. Therefore, the Brain Monster had these undead participate in a lot of work, including the maintenance of some facilities in the palace area and the duties of the inner city guards for a period of time. Some undead sailors had even been to the secret room under the palace area – where the giant brain was "imprisoned", and it was obvious that the latter was a cautious guy. It didn't allow ordinary sirens to get too close to it, so for a long time only these undead sailors could go to the secret room.

This situation continued until there were enough completely brainwashed sirens to replace them.

And in the beginning, the control crystals of these undead sailors were directly controlled by the giant brain. During the unstable stage of those sirens, the giant brain directly ordered these sailors. It was only two years ago that they were handed over to the siren overseers.

The Soviet submarine commander's name was Ivan. He had entered the Siren Queen's palace as a worker and had personally seen the giant brain entrenched in the secret room. He described in detail through Tu Tan's mouth the scene he had witnessed, with incredible details.

Before Tu Tan's necromancy failed, Vivian learned as much as possible about the situation in the palace, and then she looked at the other end of the hall: "According to Ivan, there is a water circulation channel from here that leads directly to the palace. The entrance is through that door."

"But what about these sailors?" Hao Ren glanced at the undead sailors who had just broken free from control. "Leave them here?"

At this moment, the sailors suddenly made an unexpected move: led by several commanders, the undead sailors stretched their hands to their chests and forcibly pulled out the gray-blue crystals embedded in their hearts!

A series of cracking sounds rang out as the sailors crushed the crystals that provided them with energy but also controlled their actions. Fine sand, like blood, flowed from the holes in their chests. Each soldier quickly became weak, but they swayed and did not fall. Ivan came to Hao Ren, raised his hand and pointed to the door on the other side of the hall, opening his mouth and nodding silently.

"They must destroy these crystals to find peace," Tu Tan started the necromancy again. "Before that, he wants to lead the way for you."

Ivan nodded silently. The skin on his face was rapidly decaying, and fine sand uncontrollably flowed out of the wound, but he opened his mouth and showed a happy smile—this was the last mission they executed with free will.

Hao Ren didn't waste any time and turned to swim towards the door: "Hurry up!"

Led by hundreds of undead sailors, the team quickly passed through gates and tunnels to the Siren Queen's palace. They bypassed all the easily intercepted intersections, traveling through various inspection passages and water circulation pipes, and the destination was right in front of them.

A sharp whistle faintly came from afar, and Soma immediately reminded everyone: "It's an alarm. The sentinels have discovered the situation in the resonance chamber."

Shakira once again urged the current to increase everyone's speed: "Faster, the palace is right in front!"

Hao Ren saw from the signs on the surrounding pipes that he was approaching a place called "Core Command Module". He looked around again and saw groups of tattered World War II soldiers. The feeling of temporal distortion and the confusion of life and death couldn't help but surge into his heart. The bodies of those undead sailors were rapidly collapsing, and fine sand spilled from every soldier's wound, leaving a long trail behind the team. Soldiers kept falling behind, turning into fine sand and falling with a bang, leaving only a rotten old military uniform in place. The team was very large when it set off, but now less than a third of the original number remained. Hundreds of sailors had completely turned into fine sand after losing their energy supply.

Shakira approached Ivan and said in a low voice: "I apologize for the mistakes of my compatriots..."

Ivan's body was also disintegrating. He now looked almost like a skeleton, but he still tried to open his mouth, make a smiling expression, and shake his head. Tu Tan's voice came from behind: "They personally watched how the sirens were controlled little by little. Although their bodies lost their freedom, they knew very well who the real culprit was."

Shakira lowered her head slightly: "Thank you, that makes me feel better."

Ivan nodded and, together with another Allied officer next to him, accelerated to lead everyone towards the last gate.

Less than half a meter from the gate, Ivan's body cracked three cracks and dissipated into sand.

A British officer who passed by him glanced down, paused slightly to pay his respects, and then turned to open the gate.

Behind the gate was a lounge, and a dozen siren guards in a state of shock were turning their heads.

The leading siren guard reacted quickly. She raised her trident high and let out a piercing screech at the same time. Visible shock waves erupted from in front of the siren. Several undead sailors immediately rushed up. Their bodies turned into a sky full of fine sand under the tearing of the shock waves, but their broken heads flew straight out and used their teeth to bite the sirens' wrists holding the trident before they completely collapsed!

The sand and dust and the raid slightly delayed the reaction of the siren sentinels. Hao Ren immediately led everyone to rush up: "Quick battle!"

A chaotic encounter suddenly broke out, and piercing screams and continuous explosions quickly resounded in the narrow water circulation channel. Everyone knew that the sentinels in other places had sounded the alarm, so this time they did not suppress the noise, but went all out to end the battle as soon as they came up!

The encounter lasted only a minute. The last siren screamed and turned into foam under the scorching flames of White Flame. The surrounding air was filled with hot water and floating fine sand. Only a part of the sirens were captured by Hao Ren into his portable space. The other guards were directly killed—which meant that they would soon be resurrected nearby, and then bring a large number of guards to block this passage.

The undead sailors were almost all dead. Only a few scattered commanders were still following behind the team, and they no longer had the strength to lead the way in front. Their comrades and subordinates had turned into the sand and soil in this deep-water channel, and they themselves had reached the end of this long service. After continuing to swim forward for a short distance, the team stopped in the channel.

The last two Allied soldiers leaned against the nearby pipes, their bodies collapsing uncontrollably. A captain clenched his fist and gestured as if trying to say something. Tu Tan started the necromancy again, but this time even he could not interpret what these two dying undead were thinking.

But Hao Ren quickly understood what the other party meant through his gestures.

He bent down and shook the captain's hand: "You won. The Germans are finished."

Then he turned to look at the last Soviet soldier next to him: "Leningrad has also been defended."

The two soldiers nodded contentedly and turned into yellow sand all over the ground.
