Chapter 16 A High-End Workplace

Chapter 1 Start

Hao Ren looked up, dumbfounded at the strange phenomenon in the sky, his mouth wide open—he couldn't see his own expression, but if he could, he would definitely think he had just finished two years of rehabilitation training at Qingshan Mental Hospital.

A massive building was floating upside down above his head, almost enough to make his heart and soul shatter!

It was a huge, blue-roofed Western-style house, with a cross-shaped main building and long side wings. The house had white walls and a blue roof, simple and elegant, giving the impression of a combination of a modern European castle and manor. Behind the main building was a complex, streamlined tower, which didn't quite match the style of the house, but added to its overall sense of mystery. The house itself was built on a pure white base, and around it were vibrant lawns and gardens. Symmetrical small fountains were distributed in the gardens, and in the small square directly in front of the house was an artificial fountain that could only be described as "giant." All of this was astonishing.

Even more astonishing was that it was all upside down in the sky! Even the fountain was upside down, as if completely disregarding Newton's face.

Hao Ren had only ever seen buildings of this scale on TV, but he had never seen one hanging in the sky in such a bizarre way. He instinctively felt his legs tremble, and his first thought was what would happen if that thing fell—it wasn't that he was making a fuss; even if Schwarzenegger were here, he would tremble to see a building larger than a residential area flying overhead.

Hao Ren was completely sure that there was nothing in the sky before, and he also noticed that even though such a large house was suspended in the sky, there were no shadows on the ground. He could still feel the hot sun shining directly on him, making him sweat profusely—of course, the sweating wasn't entirely due to the sun at this point—in short, everything that was happening before his eyes was completely beyond his comprehension as an ordinary person, so much so that he only reacted when his phone suddenly rang with a loud call: "Hey, Hao Ren! See the big house in the sky?"

Hao Ren held the phone to his ear and, after a long moment of mental preparation, exclaimed, "Holy crap..."

"First rule of employee conduct: employees are not allowed to swear before the leader does, but since you haven't joined yet, it's okay," the woman said casually. "Now take your hand off that old Chinese medicine advertisement and keep your eyes on the square, or I don't care where you fly."

Hao Ren had been about to turn and leave, but when he heard this, he broke out in a cold sweat: Luckily, his hand had been holding onto the utility pole (because his legs were weak) and hadn't let go, otherwise something terrible would have happened!

Hao Ren knew he couldn't run today, so he gritted his teeth and let go of the utility pole in front of the square and the big house in the sky.

In that instant, the world spun around. Hao Ren felt as if he had been thrown hundreds of meters into the air, then thrown into a place without up, down, left, right, or gravity. Then, he was spun wildly in every direction, he didn't know how many 360° turns. By the time he felt like he was about to throw up last year's New Year's Eve dinner, that feeling of madness receded like a tide. He found himself still standing on solid ground, but the scene before him had completely changed: a huge fountain in front of him was cheerfully spraying water, and a gentle breeze brought a pleasant and cool moisture that made every pore on his body want to stretch out. On both sides were green lawns and colorful gardens, and underfoot was a neat, white stone ground. Hao Ren couldn't be sure if the ground was actually stone, but he knew it was definitely not cement. It was delicate and simple, with a texture between plastic and metal, a building material he had never seen before.

Hao Ren slowly turned his head and saw a huge white, blue-roofed house behind him.

As expected, he had arrived at the upside-down building he had seen earlier, which meant...

Hao Ren looked up in horror, but unexpectedly, he didn't see another upside-down world. Above was only a clear, bright blue sky, and behind the clouds were aurora-like ribbons of light slowly moving. He didn't see the sun, but a warm, non-scorching sunlight still shone down from the upper left. Looking into the distance, there was nothing blocking the view around the house, and there was a straight, wide road between the gardens on both sides, but there was nothing at the end of the road. Hao Ren saw a thick mist, as if the place was shrouded in a ring of fog, and only the huge house and garden where he was standing were the only things that existed there.

Like an isolated island in the fog—this thought made Hao Ren shiver. He realized that getting back was already a problem.

At this moment, a soft "creak" came from behind him, bringing Hao Ren back to his senses. He turned around and saw that the house's magnificent door had been pushed open, and a "creature" that looked like it was made of clouds and electricity walked out.

Hao Ren had never seen such a strange "creature." He couldn't tell if it was male or female, or even see its facial features. The entire "person" was completely composed of translucent, hazy light blue mist. This strange creature was more than a meter tall and had a human-like limb structure, and in the mist of its body, he could see bright electric currents flowing from time to time, as if these currents were its bones?

Besides that, Hao Ren didn't see it wearing any clothes... He guessed this thing didn't need to wear clothes, right?

Hao Ren had encountered too many bizarre things in the past two days. The upside-down building before had instantly tempered his nerves to the point of near-necrosis, so after seeing this strange guy who couldn't even be called a person, Hao Ren was surprised but not yet panicked. The "blue mist man" nodded to Hao Ren, made a crackling sound of electricity from inside his body, then stepped aside, gesturing for the visitor to follow him into the house.

Hao Ren mustered his courage, quickened his pace, and followed the silent, strange creature into the bizarre house.

The inside of the house was as magnificent and tall as it looked from the outside. From the front door, there was a bright and spacious front hall, followed by a long corridor covered with a red carpet. Hao Ren followed the silent, strange creature, carefully observing the surroundings as he walked. There were no light sources in the corridor, but every corner was filled with light. The walls on both sides were hung with many incomprehensible murals. Some of the murals depicted towering castles and towers, while others depicted scenes of planets and the universe. Still others were scenes of huge warships blasting each other and high-tech armies fighting, while some murals depicted people who looked like magicians casting spells—to be honest, these things didn't really match.

Finally, he saw a mural at the end of the corridor covered with childish graffiti of little turtles... That was completely incomprehensible.

Finally, he was led to a heavy, ornate dark brown wooden door. The blue mist man pointed to the wooden door and suddenly disappeared into the air before Hao Ren could ask anything.

Hao Ren shrugged and had no choice but to grit his teeth and knock on the wooden door a few times.

A very pleasant female voice came from behind the door. It was the woman on the phone: "Come in, the door's unlocked."

Hao Ren pushed the door open with force, and everything behind the door was revealed before him.

It was a large, semicircular room. In the center of the room was a dark-colored table that looked very heavy. The floor was not covered with carpet, but with a layer of gray-white, warm, stone-like material. Against the curved walls of the room were semicircular shelves, but they weren't bookshelves—they were filled with strange things that Hao Ren couldn't figure out, some of which looked like models, some of which were flashing crystals, and some of which had unfinished jianbing guozi (a kind of Chinese pancake) in the compartments.

There was indeed half a jianbing guozi there—absolutely true, heaven knows why!

Behind the large table in the center of the room sat a silver-haired woman.

A beautiful woman who made Hao Ren slightly stunned, and who looked surprisingly young, perhaps even a little younger than Hao Ren—at least she looked that way.

She had a cold temperament, with light brown eyes and snow-white silver hair, a high nose bridge, and thin lips. When she wasn't speaking, she gave people a hard-to-approach feeling (of course, it might be Hao Ren's illusion, after all, he was already treating her like a doomsday demon). This young woman was wearing a very strange piece of clothing, like a black robe, but also a bit like a modified windbreaker. Although the style was not common, it suited her surprisingly well, bringing her a mysterious aura.

While Hao Ren was stunned, the young woman smiled, and that cold temperament dissipated a lot. She nodded to Hao Ren, gesturing for him to sit in the chair next to him, then pointed to herself: "You can call me Raven 12345. I'm your future boss."

Hao Ren was immersed in his chaotic thoughts, so much so that he didn't even notice the name she introduced herself with. He just subconsciously asked, "What... is this place?"

"This place? The Space-Time Administration," the woman who called herself Raven 12345 said with a proud face, "The Space-Time Administration en35 node resident Wangbatuozi (Turtle Mound) Office, how about it, awesome right?"

Hao Ren: "..."
