Chapter 10 Wolves and Bats

Chapter 1 Lilly, Transform!

"Lilly, transform now!"

This was the only solution Hao Ren could think of at the moment. That familiar bloody and cold feeling had returned, and he knew that he, a mere mortal, could never contend with the "monster" before him, who resembled a human but was actually an alien. But even as he shouted those words, he didn't have much hope: he was less than two meters away from the "girl"!

A gust of wind came from behind him, and Hao Ren knew that Lilly, in her transformed state, was rushing to his rescue. At the same time, Hao Ren immediately exerted force on his feet, preparing to jump aside, so that the werewolf and this suspected vampire would face each other directly, and he would be safe!

But he overestimated his reaction speed, or rather, underestimated the combat power of "aliens." Almost as soon as he had the idea of dodging, the black-haired, straight-haired girl reached out with a speed far exceeding human reaction time. She grabbed Hao Ren's arm and, with a brute force that almost broke his bones, pulled him behind her. She even said in a very pleasant voice, "Be careful!"

Hao Ren was stunned the moment he was thrown away: did that "be careful" just come from this dangerous creature?

At this moment, Lilly finally rushed to the door, half a step late. Hao Ren desperately saw that this werewolf girl, who had a few screws loose, had neither transformed nor grabbed a weapon. She was still dressed in her cool and lively home clothes, her hair hadn't turned white, and her ears hadn't popped out. This girl jumped to the door and shouted happily, "Landlord, landlord, I'm here! Is it a delivery?"

In Hao Ren's heart, a roar of near-grief and indignation almost broke through the sky: this idiot! There's no understanding at all!

The idiotic behavior of the werewolf Lilly made Hao Ren completely give up on escaping from the vampire. Although Lilly immediately reacted after seeing the unfamiliar black-haired, straight-haired girl in front of her, transformed in a second, and picked up two bricks from the door to prepare for battle, he still felt hopeless: he shouldn't have pinned his hopes on this werewolf with a few screws loose since last night! He might as well go to the kitchen, string up a couple of garlic cloves, and hang them around his neck – that would probably be more reliable than Lilly!

Of course, he would learn later: for a certain vampire, garlic wasn't effective.

When Lilly saw that her landlord had already been grabbed by the enemy, a look of annoyance flashed across her face, but she still clenched the bricks in her hand and let out a threatening "woo woo" growl from her throat. "Vampire... it's daytime now. You can't even beat me at night, let alone during the day! Return the landlord and I'll spare your life!"

The black-haired, straight-haired girl, who had already confirmed her identity as a vampire, showed no fear at all. She stood between Hao Ren and Lilly, extending her right hand in front of her in a defensive posture. Her sharp nails slowly lengthened, and a cold and bloody aura began to swirl around her body. Her left hand, however, quietly moved behind her back, and under Hao Ren's inexplicable gaze, she waved it vigorously a couple of times, as if... urging Hao Ren to leave quickly?

"Werewolf, when did beasts also start pretending and mixing in human cities!" The vampire girl's voice was cold and contemptuous. Although it carried a sense of weakness for some reason, her disdain for Lilly was very obvious in her tone (even though she had just been hit by two bricks from the werewolf in front of her last night). "Isn't catching rabbits in the wilderness your true calling?"

"Hmph!" Lilly snorted angrily. "Stupid vampire, you'll never guess that I can't catch rabbits at all!"

Hao Ren just wanted to bang his head and die on the spot, so as not to embarrass this werewolf with a few screws loose: this idiot, idiot, idiot!

Even the usually calm vampire girl was stunned by Lilly's unconventional way of speaking. She almost laughed, but then she vigorously waved her left hand behind her back. At the same time, Hao Ren heard a voice directly in his ear: "Human, run first, I'll hold back this werewolf... even though it's daytime, it's still no problem to hold her back!"

Hao Ren: "... Huh?"

Lilly was finally being uncharacteristically not idiotic at this moment. She noticed that the vampire had been a little distracted just now, so she immediately let out a low growl and rushed up, waving the bricks: she probably didn't dare to throw the bricks for fear of hitting the nearby landlord.

"Go to hell! Winged rat!"

The vampire girl also fearlessly met her, and a faint red streak of blood solidified in the air between her hands. The sharp nails, which had grown to more than ten centimeters, stabbed towards Lilly's chest like a cluster of small daggers: "Go to hell! Beast who can only catch rabbits!"

"Stupid vampire! I told you, I can't catch rabbits at all!"

"Don't think you can use this method to distract me again. The same trick doesn't work twice on a vampire!"

In the blink of an eye, two alien creatures that couldn't be measured by common sense were already entangled together. Lilly darted left and right at the entrance of the rented apartment like a silver glow, desperately trying to rush to Hao Ren's side, while the mysterious vampire girl's speed didn't slow down much even in the daytime. She transformed into a black afterimage, with red streaks of blood and claw attacks dancing wildly, each time suppressing the werewolf who was about to rush out. Lilly's roars and the vampire girl's scolding seemed to be ringing out from a dozen different locations at the same time, which was completely beyond the reaction speed of human eyes and ears!

But Hao Ren had already reacted from his initial shock. Although he wasn't sure what the truth was, he knew he couldn't let these two keep fighting, not to mention... he was worried that someone would see this bizarre scene!

Even though he lived in a remote area, there were still people living here. It was already morning, and the only few residents on this street could come out at any time. Lilly and the vampire girl's fight was quite loud, and if someone saw it, something terrible would definitely happen—Lilly might really be caught by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, sliced into pieces, and sent to the cafeteria to taste the saltiness! Hao Ren completely believed in the national conditions of the great food nation!

Seeing the courtyard door at the end of the street being slowly pushed open, Hao Ren was anxious and shouted at the top of his lungs, "Stop! Stop fighting!"

His roar was earth-shattering. Hao Ren could almost imagine that if he met the old men and women from the next street in a few days, he would be surrounded and asked if he had suffered domestic violence, but this roar was indeed effective: the two storms formed by Lilly and the vampire girl immediately stopped. They both looked at Hao Ren in confusion, and then quickly glared at their opponents.

Lilly still looked full of fighting spirit, as if the previous battle was only enough for a warm-up. The vampire girl, however, seemed to have consumed a lot of energy. She was panting, her face flushed abnormally. It seemed that engaging in a close-quarters battle with a werewolf in the sunlight wasn't so easy. However, they had one thing in common: even after such an intense battle, neither of them had broken a sweat.

The vampire girl's personal air conditioner was too damn cold.

"You might have a misunderstanding!" Seeing the two glaring at each other, Hao Ren knew they might start fighting again at any time, so he quickly stepped between them (of course, leaning slightly closer to Lilly). "I need to confirm one thing first: this vamp... vampire girl, you didn't actually intend to kill me, did you?"

Hao Ren felt that something was strange as soon as he said this, but he couldn't care less about the wording at this time. He felt that there must have been a terrible misunderstanding between the werewolf and the vampire—which pointed to a terrible possibility.

The vampire girl immediately glared at him, while guarding against Lilly, and quickly glanced at Hao Ren: "I wanted to save you!"

Before Hao Ren could speak, Lilly jumped out: "Who are you trying to fool! You want to suck the landlord's blood! I've seen it on TV, none of you vampires are good people!"

Hao Ren suddenly realized something: why does this werewolf get so much of her knowledge from TV? Is this the first time she's seen a vampire?

"Didn't you kidnap this human first!" The vampire girl's slender eyes narrowed, carrying a murderous aura. "Kidnapping a human and forcing him to help you cover up your identity, so you can live in a human town. You werewolves don't have many brains to begin with. This trick was used hundreds of years ago, and it hasn't changed now—no wonder you're almost extinct."

Then Lilly and the vampire girl continued to glare at each other, but it seemed that their confidence was starting to waver a little.

Hao Ren, sandwiched between the two, listened to the gist of it, and finally slapped his forehead. "Sigh, what's going on... Stop fighting, let's all go home and talk!"
