Chapter 3 So Far, So Good

Chapter 1 A Good Person

Hao Ren, as his name suggested, was a good person.

He lived in an obscure northern city, which could barely be considered at the foot of the Emperor if Beijing decided to build a 20th or 30th ring road. He was a typical ordinary person. If all the good guy cards in the world were counted on his head (due to the similar pronunciation of his name), he could barely be considered famous. No one recognized him on the street. He had a square face that was ordinary in every way except for a bit of manliness. For over twenty years, his life goal was to be a good person, and he had no other outstanding features—that was him.

It was now May or June, when the summer heat was just arriving. Although the weather in the north was cooler, walking on the road under the blazing sun during the day was still annoying. Therefore, the bustling city center was filled with various vehicles, but few pedestrians could be seen. A tall young man in a white t-shirt, grey pants, and an ordinary appearance was one of those few pedestrians. Hao Ren held a few pieces of paper in his hand, trying to walk in the shade of the trees or buildings on both sides. The honking of cars on the road and the buzzing of cicadas in the trees made him feel annoyed, but these chaotic noises didn't seem to affect his mood much. He just kept his head down and hurried on, occasionally flapping his already soaked clothes because of the weather, and then looked down at the things in his hand—two job advertisements and a promotional flyer handed out by a student girl when he passed the square. The flyer had a picture of a beautiful girl with a radiant smile, and below it was a line of large characters: Jinrong Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist Hospital, specializes in the treatment of…

Hao Ren felt that students these days were becoming less and less dedicated. When he used to hand out flyers while working part-time, he would never hand this kind of thing to guys who looked like bachelors at a glance. But anyway, this kind of hard flyer was quite suitable for fanning.

"The last two, if they don't work out, forget it." Hao Ren muttered to himself as he looked at the last two job advertisements. Fortunately, these two places were next to each other, so he could quickly finish today's "mission". One of them was ahead, an advertising company whose strength could not be seen from its appearance, but its signboard was impressive: Galaxy Media Pan-Cultural Development and Promotion Company. Just hearing the name, you knew it would go bankrupt within half a year. Hao Ren came because of this name, mainly not to apply for a job, but to see what kind of amazing person the boss who could come up with such a magical name would be.

He walked several hundred meters with great interest to get around the road's dividing fence, and then ran under the hot sun to the front of this particularly awesome-named advertising company, and was surprised to find—the company had indeed gone bankrupt. The signboard was still hanging, but the glass door had a notice of closure, dated two days ago. The job advertisement in his hand was from four days ago… This was truly a rapidly changing world. Did companies these days have to hire two new employees to calm themselves down two days before going bankrupt?

Casually crumpling the advertising company's job advertisement into a ball and throwing it into the trash can on the side of the road, Hao Ren looked down at the last one, and two seconds later, he also crumpled it into a ball and threw it into the same place, reflecting on whether he was blind when he screened these things two days ago—a bus company was recruiting an office clerk, requiring applicants to be 25 to 40 years old, able to endure hardship, know computers, and have work experience, female preferred.

He came to the city center with great interest holding this thing, just to see how bright the glass door of an advertising company that was still busy recruiting two days before going bankrupt was. He was simply too full.

Hao Ren, male, likes females, age 25, no bad habits, his advantage is that he is not picky about food, currently single, has few relatives and friends, and lives alone in the old house left by his parents in the old city area south of the city. Like most young men, his life goal is to earn more than 10,000 yuan a month by the age of 25 and marry a beautiful wife. If possible, it would be best to have a car. He couldn't support his parents, so at least he had to live well himself to avoid embarrassing his family. Now one-third of this series of life goals has been completed: he is 25 years old this year.

This is truly a sad story.

He came to the city today to find a job, but in fact, he personally didn't have any urgent need for a source of income: as mentioned earlier, Hao Ren lived in an old house left by his parents. He should be grateful for the family business left by the older generation. At least the house was quite big—it was an old two-story house that had been converted into a structure similar to a family rental apartment.

For many years, Hao Ren had been making a living by renting out houses. However, because the place where he lived was too remote, so remote that it would probably take several more decades before the old house could be demolished, the rental income was just so-so. It wasn't a small amount, but it was definitely not enough to make a fortune. It could allow him, a bachelor, to live a comfortable life, but that was all.

To be fair, with this kind of stable income, Hao Ren didn't need to come out to find a job, but people become pretentious when they have too much free time. They always feel that they should work a little harder and explore the path of life. Plus, the more important reason—his old house was too remote, so remote that it was almost detached from human civilization. Since the last migrant worker couple moved out of the rental house, no one had come to rent the house for half a year. Looking at the empty two-story "apartment" for several consecutive months, Hao Ren realized from the bottom of his heart: unless the municipal planning tilted towards his side, he would probably have to come out to find a job if he wanted to survive.

After studying urban planning at home for three days, Hao Ren felt that the possibility of his home suddenly becoming a commercial center overnight was unlikely. Considering that he, as a grown man, couldn't just waste himself like this, he finally decided to find a job first, at least to maintain his life with income.

After all, he was a hardworking man who earned tuition fees by working part-time back then. The bright world wouldn't let him starve to death, would it?

However, fate does not shift according to one’s will. His first day of running around outside was basically… just running around.

Thinking so much was useless. Hao Ren stretched and decided to take a break under the shade of a tree in the small park by the road, wait until the hottest hour of noon had passed before finding a small restaurant to fill his stomach, and then take the bus home. Fortunately, this was a small northern city that was hard to even count as a third-tier city. Even though the economic development was quite fast, it could still maintain the leisure and openness of a small place: at least the urban public land planning was good, with green trees shading the area. Even in the city center, where every inch of land was precious, there were many small parks for people to rest.

He found a piece of paper to wipe the bench clean, and then lay down carelessly, using the flyer with the women's hospital logo and a pretty girl to cover his face and block the sunlight, resting so carelessly. Of course, he didn't dare to just fall asleep like this. After all, there were more and more thieves these days, and even good people weren't enough for them to harm. Although he didn't have anything valuable in his pocket, it wouldn't be good to be robbed. He just planned to doze off for a while, at least to dissipate the heat from his body.

But just as he had just lain down, seemingly not even a minute had passed, the sunlight that shone in through the edge of the flyer had already dimmed, as if someone had come next to him. Hao Ren looked up with a slight surprise, and was shocked to find that the sky was already showing the setting sun, and a petite and slender female figure was standing next to him. This figure happened to be blocking the setting sun, and because she was backlit, he couldn't see what this woman looked like. He could only confirm through a dim outline that the other person was a slender girl with short hair.

"Yo, you're awake?"

This strange girl seemed to be very familiar with him, waving her hand and greeting him casually. Hao Ren immediately sat up. He first looked around in surprise to confirm that it was indeed sunset, and that he had really slept for half a day after only intending to doze off for a while. Then he had the chance to seriously look at the stranger in front of him. At this time, the strange girl seemed to finally realize that her backlit position made it impossible for people to see her appearance clearly, so she grinned and turned slightly to let the other person see her face clearly.

A very beautiful girl—that was Hao Ren's first impression.

The other person was dressed quite coolly, wearing a close-fitting white short-sleeved shirt with a slightly childish plastic dog decoration on the collar, and dark shorts + casual shoes on her lower body, looking like a female college student who had secretly skipped class to go shopping. This familiar girl had shoulder-length short hair. She was probably very fond of sports, as her skin had a slight tan, healthy and full of sunshine. Her appearance was delicate and lovely. The most striking thing was her pair of lively big eyes, which were more energetic than any pair of eyes Hao Ren had ever seen, as if the entire person's energy was about to come out of these eyes.

And behind her was a large suitcase that looked quite heavy.

Looking at Hao Ren, who was a little dazed, the short-haired beautiful girl showed an unprecedentedly bright silly smile (although it seemed a little inappropriate to say that, Hao Ren did think it was a silly smile). The smile was clean and pure, and it seemed that it was already rare to see it on the faces of girls of the same age. The other person rummaged in her small bag for a long time, and finally took out a wrinkled piece of paper and handed it to Hao Ren: "Excuse me, do you know where this place is?"

Hao Ren patted his face to wake himself up. He didn't care about what this rash girl was doing, but looked down at the address on the paper… Oh my gosh, isn't this his own home?!
