Chapter 227 Contacting Old Friends
“Let me help?” Vivian looked at Hao Ren curiously. “Do you want something good for dinner? Or do you want some dessert?”
Hao Ren felt a sweat break out on his forehead. This super-vampire had completely become a cook and a nanny. Her entire thought process seemed to be locked within a twenty-meter radius around the kitchen. He waved his hands, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. “It's not that. I'm asking if you can still contact other types of otherworldly creatures? Vampires are fine, werewolves are fine, even ghosts and zombies are fine—preferably someone you have a bit of a relationship with.”
Vivian frowned upon hearing this. “I hardly ever contact those crazy guys in my clan… I haven't heard from the old guys of other races for many years. But the last time Eben the werewolf came, he left me a secret way to contact him.”
Vivian was a maverick vampire. Ever since humans carved the first hieroglyph on a stone, she had spent more time with humans than with other otherworldly creatures. Her reason was that "those old guys are all crazy." Compared to the otherworldly creatures who only knew how to fight everywhere, Vivian clearly preferred humans, who were younger, full of variables, and relatively peaceful (relatively speaking). This peculiar behavior brought Vivian a lot of fame, mainly that everyone inside and outside her race thought this lady was crazy. This also led to Vivian rarely being able to grasp the trends in the otherworldly society. She couldn't even say where the several vampire gathering points in the current world were.
“You can't contact anyone?” Hao Ren was a little disappointed. He felt that the only one he could rely on in this house was this vampire. Look at the husky, the wandering singer, and the old demon from another world, which of them seemed to be socially active among the otherworldly creatures on Earth?
Vivian saw that Hao Ren attached great importance to this issue, and after thinking hard, she barely nodded. “If you have to find them… I should still be able to find some old guys. I know their whereabouts from decades or even ten years ago. Unless they are targeted by demon hunters, some lazy guys won't move even after a hundred years. But what do you want to find them for?”
“A mission,” Hao Ren sighed. “Raven 12345 and I both believe that the Day of Return mentioned by the otherworldly creatures on Earth is related to the balance collapse of the Dream Plane, but now we can't go to the deep sea, so we can only start with other otherworldly creatures. I want you to restore contact with them first—don't rush to inquire about these sensitive issues, just restore contact, and then find opportunities to understand the recent trends of the otherworldly creatures. It would be good to have a monitoring effect.”
Vivian considered it for a while before slowly nodding. “Okay, although I don't like dealing with those guys very much, it's what you asked for after all.”
Hao Ren thanked Vivian gratefully. He knew that she really didn't like getting involved in the messy affairs between otherworldly creatures. Lily, who was next to him, couldn't sit still at this time. She excitedly came over and tugged on Hao Ren's arm. “Landlord, landlord, what about me? What mission do I have? Let me do something too!”
It seemed that this girl thought that carrying out a mission was a lot of fun. As expected, huskies just couldn't stay idle. Hao Ren thought for a long time about what Lily could do, and finally took a bottle of soda from the side. “Open your mouth, bite it, don't move—”
With a click, Hao Ren nodded in satisfaction. “Well, that's it.”
As expected, this girl was more suitable as a bottle opener.
Lily's subsequent protests and rampages will not be mentioned for the time being. That night, Becky and Hilda moved into Hao Ren's house as temporary tenants. Fortunately, there were enough empty rooms in this big house. In addition to the basement occupied by Vivian, the first floor occupied by Hao Ren and Lily, and the two rooms on the second floor occupied by Nangong Wuyue and Izhaks, there were three empty rooms on the north side of the second floor. However, due to the urgency of time and the fact that two of the rooms had been vacant for too long and were piled with a lot of sundries, Becky and Hilda ended up making do in one room for the night. Neither of them had any objections to this arrangement: Although Hilda was a queen, she came from a harsh place, and she didn't seem to be the kind of person who had queenly airs. She was already very satisfied to have a comfortable room and plenty of food, which was at least better than living in the open air in the Dream Plane. Becky didn't have any thoughts, she was a mercenary and usually slept in tree branches and caves.
The excitement of coming to Earth lingered in the mercenary Becky's heart. She was full of interest in everything in this world and was full of exploration spirit, which made her almost not close her eyes all night. When she appeared in front of everyone early the next morning, the red blood streaks in her eyes startled Hao Ren. “Are you used to drinking a pint of blood after waking up to calm your nerves?”
“Don't be silly, I'm a magic swordsman, not a berserker,” Becky glared at Hao Ren, then came over excitedly. “You promised to take me out for a walk today, right? Nangong Wuyue said she wants to buy some underwear…”
“Okay, okay, I remember, can you be a little more reserved as a young lady,” Hao Ren dodged Becky's enthusiastic gaze, while also remembering a few things that he had planned before but had been delayed due to various events. He first greeted Izhaks, who was squatting in the corner feeding the cat (although outsiders looked like he was preparing to abuse the cat), “Big guy, come to the street with me, I'll buy you two winter clothes.”
Izhaks was still wearing the transformation outfit he had when he came. Although this piece of clothing never wears out, it really should be changed.
Izhaks smiled honestly. “Don't worry about me, I can just wear this, I'm not afraid of the cold, why should I spend the winter?”
“Spending the winter is secondary, the main thing is that you're too eye-catching wearing this to go out,” Hao Ren pointed to Izhaks' summer clothes. “Wearing this outfit in the middle of winter, do you know how many old men and old ladies in the neighborhood will think you're an escapee who hasn't had time to change his clothes at first glance?”
Izhaks smiled nonchalantly. “Even if I went out in a suit, I'd still look like an escapee—oh, Nangong girl also said that I looked like I was going to break someone out of prison…”
Hao Ren: “…” This big brother is quite self-aware, so why don't you fix your face when you transform?
However, seeing that Hao Ren's kindness was sincere, and most importantly, all his expenses here were reimbursed by the goddess, Izhaks didn't refuse too much in the end. He thanked him frankly and asked when he would go out. Hao Ren replied that he had to bring Vivian with him—he was also going to buy something for Vivian.
When he found Vivian, the latter was busy in the basement. As soon as Hao Ren walked into the basement, he was greeted by more than a dozen small bats, which startled him on the spot. Then he saw Vivian sitting at her desk, concentrating on performing some spells: she summoned many bats and let them come to the desk one by one to receive "infusion." Several blood-condensed beads floated around Vivian, and some red mist was constantly drawn from the beads and imprinted on the bats' wings. Hao Ren grabbed a small bat that flew past him—this was easy, because these small creatures did not resist or dodge—he found that the bat's wings were written with Leta runes, and some special symbols that he could not understand.
“What are you doing?” Hao Ren asked curiously.
“Didn't you ask me to contact the otherworldly creatures all over the world,” Vivian said without raising her head while imprinting words on the bats. “They are all old guys who have lived in seclusion and survived the demon hunters' culling. They are extra vigilant. We have to use special methods when we contact them. These bats are the characteristics of the vampire clan. They carry my spiritual imprint and greetings, which cannot be forged by others, and if they encounter danger, they can directly disintegrate into water mist, which is quite safe.”
Hao Ren then knew that Vivian had already started to act. It seemed that although she said a thousand times that she was unwilling, as long as she promised others, this vampire girl with a strong sense of self-esteem would try her best to complete it. However, looking at these bats flying around in the basement, Hao Ren couldn't understand. “How are you going to let them find your old friends? They are all over the world, right?”
Vivian nodded as a matter of course. “Of course they will fly there. But I will contact the guys in the Asia-Europe region first, and then contact the ones on the other side of the ocean after a while. I can be considered a celebrity after all, if I'm too high-profile all of a sudden, some guys with brain problems might get stimulated again.”
Hao Ren was shocked. “Fly there?! Fly all over Asia and Europe?!”
He looked at the summoner, which was only the size of a palm and looked no different from ordinary bats. He really couldn't imagine how long it would take for these little guys to fly all over the Eurasian continent. Vivian spread her hands. “What else can I do? This is already very convenient. I can't go around looking for people myself.”
If that's the case, then the little bat is indeed very convenient, but Hao Ren always felt that there should be a more convenient way. He thought for a long time and finally realized it. “Have you heard of express delivery?”
Vivian reacted in an instant, looking at Hao Ren as if he were a god. “…Your thinking is too broad…”
