Chapter 248 Not Going Smoothly

Chapter 139 Output

Hao Ren looked at the data terminal, quite surprised. "You're powering it? Can you even do that?"

He found it incredible looking at the data terminal's small form. In his mind, this little gadget, only the size of his palm, should be about the same power as a phone. While he hadn't witnessed the floating island's shield generator firsthand, he imagined it would take the output of a whole bunch of nuclear power plants if it were on Earth (the Irim elves were more technologically advanced than Earthlings, even at their lowest). Having this palm-sized thing power a city-level shield generator felt like stuffing a AA battery into Optimus Prime…

The data terminal strutted around in the air, pleased with itself. "Your ignorance is appalling! Even at my worst, I'm powered by psionic energy. Converting that to low-level energy is no child's play! Now hurry up and get the energy interface ready; this machine is saving the world."

The elven mage next to him stared blankly at this magical "magitek device" that was so intelligent it was practically human. Seeing the data terminal's confidence, Hao Ren could only tell the on-site staff, "You guys lead the energy lines out first… can you do that?"

Several staff members immediately rushed to prepare, but the elven mage in charge looked at the data terminal with some difficulty. "Leading the energy lines out isn't a problem… but what kind of interface does it need? We… we've never encountered anything like this before."

Hao Ren poked the data terminal. "How are we solving the interface compatibility problem? Do you support USB 3.0?"

"Do these elves even have USBs?!" the data terminal grumbled, then spun rapidly in a circle on the ground, leaving a ring-shaped mark. Only then did it explain to the elves, "Put your energy supply devices around this circle; I'll be inside the circle. You don't need to worry about any of the conversion work. Also, once it starts working, your people better stay away from the circle; there might be a trace amount of psionic radiation, which would be fatal to you."

The magic technician, known as the magical engineering expert, disassembled an extra energy pipe from a nearby maintenance port, connecting a flexible thing that looked like a plastic tube to the pipe and extending it toward this side. Hao Ren noticed that the magical devices used by these elves relied on a circulatory system that looked like blood vessels for power. These "blood vessels" were filled with a thin solution containing magic power and consumable substances, shining brightly with a green light, reminiscent of the veins in plants. The elves transported several thick circulation pipes next to the data terminal, connecting them to extra circulation pumps, and installed some kind of "absorption device" for charging on the outside of the pipes. Finally, they fused the connection kit of this set of equipment directly to the ground (they were easy to float in a microgravity environment), and drew a simple amplification magic circle around it with a silver-white and thick magical material that looked like liquid metal. The magic circle surrounded the data terminal in the middle.

Hao Ren marveled at this "high technology in magic." As expected, the vastness of space was full of wonders. After the development of a magical civilization, it was clearly not just a competition of who could cast the biggest fireball. They could also manufacture spaceships and precision equipment—or, more directly, there was no distinction between magical civilization and technological civilization at all; they were just different forms of expression, which ultimately should be attributed to "technology."

Who said that the printed circuit boards made by Earthlings weren't another form of magic circle in the eyes of aliens? These seemingly mysterious runes should just be simple circuit diagrams for the Irim elves.

After all the equipment was installed, the data terminal signaled everyone to retreat, while muttering to itself, "Fortunately, this machine is the latest model, and part of the outer shell is made of Source Energy alloy; otherwise, it really wouldn't be able to do this conversion… Let's go!"

A faint blue halo spread out from around the data terminal, successfully activating the charging equipment, and the entire magic circle began to flicker with a faint silver glow.

Hao Ren exhaled. "It's lit."

The surrounding elven technicians also nodded one after another. "It's lit, it's lit…"

A slight humming sound came from the top of the ring hoop. The shield generator, which had been shut down for more than an hour, started working again, and quickly resynchronized with other shield generators under the action of the automatic calibration device. The white noise that had spread out for more than ten kilometers quickly subsided on the dome: the dome was saved.

The surrounding elves burst into cheers, and the elven mage who served as the commander finally showed a smile after a deep breath. "Now all that's left is to plug the hole and then slowly study how to repair the propulsion unit. There's no rush for this. The propulsion unit doesn't need to work most of the time; it's only activated occasionally to adjust the attitude of the floating island or move its position. There's plenty of ti…"

"Boom!" A dull sound like rolling thunder interrupted the mage's words, and at the same time, everyone felt the ground around them tremble violently. Then, a strange sense of distortion suddenly hit, as if the artificial gravity under their feet was recovering but formed an abnormal angle with the ground. Hao Ren looked up in surprise, but found that an abnormal light burst out from outside the ring hoop that was like a high wall, dazzling and bright, as if there was a giant pillar of fire raging outside the wall.

More intense tremors continued to surge, and gradually spread to farther places, and the entire floating island began to tilt under this tremor!

Lili's sixth sense of crisis immediately started. She glanced up and her tail exploded instantly. "The stars are flying!"

It wasn't the stars that were flying, it was the entire starry sky that was moving quickly!

All the stars were rapidly falling towards the direction where everyone was standing, as if the entire starry sky was rolling, but in fact it was the earth under everyone's feet that began to roll. After a short period of surprise, the elven mage quickly realized what had happened, and immediately sent two people to the top of the ring hoop to check the situation (the monitors originally set up outside the wall had been destroyed by the explosion). The two mages flew to the edge of the dome and reported loudly in horror, "A part of the propulsion unit is still left! It's started! It's pushing the Isle of Dawn away from the sun!" "The floating island is rolling! The other attitude thrusters are also starting randomly!" "It might crash into the Isle of Glitter!"

At the same time as this change occurred, the noise on the dome that was about to be completely repaired suddenly began to increase again, as if the energy distribution system buried in the ring hoop had a problem. The energy of the shield generator was being extracted and transported to the propulsion unit that should have been completely scrapped!

"Notify the core control tower," the elven mage quickly gave orders, "Turn on the propulsion unit on the opposite side to offset the one-way thrust here first. Switch the island's artificial gravity to zonal self-adjustment to offset the vibration caused by the roll. Then find a way to turn off that propulsion unit!"

"The core control tower is responding," the elf in charge of transmitting the order shouted loudly, "Which way should we push?!"

The floating island was rotating and detaching from the island chain under the action of unilateral propulsion and a large number of out-of-control attitude engines. It was still in a slow acceleration phase, but if it could not be stabilized as soon as possible, the entire island would soon usher in a super earthquake, or even be torn apart by the propulsion unit. The propulsion unit on the opposite side of the island could cope with this crisis, but if it and the propulsion unit on this side were activated in the same direction, then the entire island would accelerate away from the island chain and might collide with other islands along the way. If it was started in the opposite direction, the Isle of Dawn would barely remain in the island chain, but its rolling would accelerate, which would put a huge burden on the adjustment of the artificial gravity system, and might even cause the island to accelerate its disintegration. The elven commander immediately fell into a dilemma. Should he let his own island risk disintegration and barely stay here, or should he let other floating islands risk being hit and start propulsion in the same direction?

He couldn't make this decision.

"Her Majesty the Queen's order!" A messenger suddenly shouted, "We must not affect other floating islands, let the Isle of Dawn roll in place!"

The elven mage was shocked. "But this will accelerate the disintegration!"

"Her Majesty the Queen's oracle: All entrances and exits in the Royal District have been opened. All elves go to the Royal District for refuge. After the island disintegrates, the Royal District can still be preserved. It has independent walls and shields and can hold out until rescue from other floating islands arrives. All rescue work groups will rescue in place for 24 hours. If the propulsion unit cannot be shut down or detached after 24 hours, give up the rescue and take refuge together."

"Is this giving up the Isle of Dawn?"

"This is Her Majesty the Queen's order - at least it can save everyone's lives, and it won't hurt the people on other islands."

The elven mage gritted his teeth and glared at the fire outside the high wall. "...This is where my ancestors have lived for generations... Okay, I understand. Now, at all costs, stop the thruster! Otherwise, our home will be finished!"

"The control system is out of order, and now we are using special power supply pipes. Cutting off the energy will cause the dome to shut down as well."

"Then blow it up!" The elven mage's eyes almost burst with bloodshot. "What about the cruise plane? Send a bomb over there. It's better to blow a bigger hole than to disintegrate the entire floating island!"
