Chapter 513 Royal Magic Association
That night, everyone stayed at Becky's new house. To celebrate her dream finally coming true, Becky held a grand banquet (she was determined to enjoy the life of the wealthy). Hao Ren and his friends fully enjoyed the Holletta-style wines and delicacies, and it was nearly midnight before they left the mess behind and went to bed. The next morning, Hao Ren was, as usual, awakened by Doudou slapping him with her tail. The little mermaid happily bounced around on his chest. "Papa! Papa! We have guests! Guests are here! They're here!"
Hao Ren grabbed Doudou and tossed the little one into the nearby basin of water so she could swim around. When he sat up from the soft bed, the springs bounced him around. He was stunned for a moment before realizing he was at Becky's house. He tidied himself up, turned his head to look out the window, and saw a group of people on the open ground in the front yard. He recognized several of them: Marshal Aufra, Bishop Auben, and a few archbishops and kingdom ministers he'd met briefly during the secret meeting a couple of days ago. The rest were mostly guard soldiers.
The local butler was receiving the distinguished guests, while a servant quickly ran towards the main house, presumably to inform Becky.
Hao Ren put on his coat and was about to go out when he suddenly realized his clothes were damaged. "Hey, where did all my buttons go?"
There was a splash from the nearby basin. Hao Ren turned his head and saw Doudou curled up at the bottom of the basin pretending to sleep, but the way her tail was twitching rapidly showed the little thing was definitely feeling guilty—the little thing couldn't lie at all. He picked Doudou up and saw several broken buttons lying quietly where she had been.
"I thought I could eat them," Doudou patted Hao Ren's arm with her tail, "but they didn't taste good."
"Of course not! It's plastic! Even if it looks like wood, it's still plastic!" Hao Ren looked at his growing daughter in exasperation. "I know you're growing, but if you're hungry, can you eat something normal? If you really can't, you can wake me up or wake up that brick!"
The data terminal immediately crashed into the back of Hao Ren's head. "Who are you calling a brick? Yesterday you were calling me a coaster! Let's fight it out!"
Hao Ren: "..."
By the time Hao Ren had changed his clothes and came out to the living room, everyone else had already heard the commotion outside and gathered together. Aufra and a group of guests were chatting with Vivian at the door. Hao Ren looked around for Becky and, not finding her, found May, who had slept in Becky's arms last night. "Where's the new nouveau riche?"
"Not awake yet," Nangong Wuyue stretched her waist and yawned. Her truly amazing snake-like waist almost twisted into three curves. If she didn't look so thin and small in her human form, her figure would be enough to sweep through countless fashion shows. "Speaking of which, what were you doing upstairs just now? I heard you shouting."
"Educating a fish and fighting with my PDA. The good news is I won, the bad news is I feel empty as hell after winning," Hao Ren covered his forehead. "If my daily life didn't have subtitles and narration, would you be able to understand it?"
Nangong Wuyue curled her lips. "I can basically imagine it."
At this moment, Becky finally appeared at the top of the stairs, yawning continuously. It looked like the butler had dragged her out of bed. She looked at the group of distinguished guests at the entrance of the living room in a daze and mustered her energy. "Hello, welc..."
Then she missed a step and tumbled down the stairs from the second floor, crashing and banging all the way before finally stopping at Nangong Sanba's feet. As she got up, she finished her sentence. "...ome to my home. Whew, I'm much more awake now."
The group of bishops, ministers, marshals, and generals at the door stared at this legendary mercenary and newly promoted noble with horrified eyes. Most of them were thinking the same thing: one of the heroes who saved the kingdom was actually this kind of person, and she was even the royal family's main representative. This was simply a disaster. Unfortunately, there was no one else to promote besides Becky. There were only five local heroes in the foreigners' group. The other four were said to be catching wild rabbits in another world, and ascetics were never suitable candidates for publicity, so they could only use this half-baked character to make up the numbers, even if she was just a noob swordsman who followed a max-level team to achieve epic achievements…
"What's with this image?" Hao Ren asked as he pulled Becky up, "Didn't you sleep last night?"
"I was too excited to sleep," Becky stuck out her tongue and then smiled brightly. "Speaking of which, now you're freeloading at my house. I suddenly feel balanced… Come visit often, don't be polite—His Majesty the King has plenty of money."
"Ahem," Aufra happened to walk over and coughed twice after hearing these shameless words. "There's a marshal, two deputy ministers, and four cabinet ministers standing here. Let's get down to business."
"We're going to the First Born's seal, right?" Hao Ren nodded. "Where exactly is it? How do we get there?"
A mosaic-covered face suddenly popped up from the side. Archbishop Auben said expressionlessly, like a ghost, "I discussed it with the Pope and decided to go to the Sacred Cave located in Sunset Volcano. The one sealed there is the First Born expected to awaken sooner, and the time until the seal is released is less than a year, so the situation is more serious. And those tentacles are more active, so they should be more suitable for observation."
"We can use the Royal Magic Association's teleportation array to get there," a minister in a heavy purple robe nodded. "His Majesty the King approved the use of the Royal Magic Association's strategic facilities this morning. In addition to the long-distance teleportation array, we can also bring a team of elite magisters."
Mages were clearly more effective against the First Born's tentacles than ordinary warriors. At least mages had stronger minds and were less likely to go crazy.
When everyone heard that they could use Holletta's local teleportation technology this time, they were all interested. To be honest, Hao Ren had been to the Dream Plane several times, but he had never experienced the magic teleportation array here. So a group of people quickly packed up and followed Aufra to the Royal Magic Association's headquarters in a flurry.
The Royal Magic Association was a group of buildings located in the northern suburbs of the royal capital, consisting of several towering magic spires. Talented human mages and magic-savvy blood clan mystics built this place together—as the oldest country on the continent, Holletta had many alien races, and the blood clan was considered a relatively common "minority" here.
The reason why the Magic Association was built outside the royal capital was not because ordinary people rejected magic, but for safety—in this world, mages were inventors and researchers. In addition to being a combat profession, they were more importantly technicians. They liked to tinker with strange things, and all the high explosives and alchemical and engineering weapons in this world were their creations. So no matter where they went, large magic towers had to be built far away from residential areas, because you never knew when something that fell from these towers might be an alchemical bomb…
Of course, occasionally a few unlucky mages would fall down. Don't ask why, it wasn't strange for these weird and picky scholars to study anything.
After passing through a magical veil, Hao Ren and the others saw the Royal Magic Association, hidden beneath an optical cloaking barrier. The first thing that caught their eye was a strangely shaped tower: this tower seemed to be broken into several sections, divided into several parts and floating in the air. Each section was tilted and crooked, and from the whole, it looked like about a third of the structure was missing in the middle. But this magic tower was clearly still operating normally. Faint shadows could be seen flashing in the broken parts, seemingly human figures.
"Rudolph's Tower, built by the association's vice-chairman," Aufra explained casually. "Rudolph is an old blood clan member who studies space technology and is known for his daring experiments. An accident turned his tower into this. Spatial distortion cut the spatial structure where the tower was located, causing part of the tower to float in another dimension. It looks broken, but the interior is still integrated. It's just that if you go inside… it feels a little weird, because some windows and doors lead to strange places, and Rudolph hasn't drawn a new structural map of the entire tower yet. I went to visit him once a while ago, and because the doorplate was hung wrong, I had to trek back from Kuhl's high-ranking official residence in the south… I suggest you don't go there."
Before Aufra could finish speaking, a large group of bats appeared out of nowhere in front of everyone, transforming into a human form with a rustle. It was a middle-aged man in a black tuxedo with a bright smile on his face. "That was just a small accident, madam, and I reminded you that the seventh floor of the magic tower hasn't been very stable recently. One of my apprentices even found his younger sister's underwear in his closet. The space is too unstable..."
The people around immediately looked askance at this unreliable association vice-chairman. Rudolph shrugged. "Okay, maybe it's not all the problem of spatial instability. Puberty is as mysterious as spatial magic."
"He's just like that," Aufra explained helplessly in a low voice. "It's said that he teleported part of his brain away while studying magic."
"The blood clan in this world seem to have more sunshine than those on Earth," Hao Ren muttered to Vivian.
Vivian rolled her eyes. "Nonsense, the environment on Earth is so harsh, who could be cheerful?"
"So these are the guests who will be using the long-distance teleportation array today?" Rudolph looked at Hao Ren and his group curiously. "Oh, I've heard about you… But Chairman Catherine suggested that I not ask too much, so hurry and come with me—the big sun outside isn't good for the skin."
(Well, continuing to ask for monthly tickets, anyway, I'm idle.)
